¹The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

¹Presbiterul (Sau: bătrînul.) către aleasa Doamnă şi către copiii ei, pe cari -i iubesc în adevăr-şi nu numai eu, ci toţi cei ce cunosc adevărul, -

²For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

²pentru adevărul acesta care rămîne în noi, şi care va fi cu noi în veac:

³Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

³Harul, îndurarea şi pacea să fie cu voi din partea lui Dumnezeu Tatăl, şi din partea Domnului Isus Hristos, Fiul Tatălui, în adevăr şi în dragoste!

⁴I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

⁴M'am bucurat foarte mult cînd am aflat pe unii din copiii tăi umblînd în adevăr, după porunca pe care am primit -o dela Tatăl.

⁵And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

⁵Şi acum, te rog, Doamnă, nu ca şi cum ţi-aş scrie o poruncă nouă, ci cea, pe care am avut -o dela început: să ne iubim unii pe alţii!

⁶And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

⁶Şi dragostea stă în vieţuirea după poruncile Lui. Aceasta este porunca în care trebuie să umblaţi, după cum aţi auzit dela început.

⁷For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

⁷Căci în lume s'au răspîndit mulţi amăgitori, cari nu mărturisesc că Isus Hristos vine în trup. Iată amăgitorul, iată Antihristul!

⁸Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

⁸Păziţi-vă bine să nu perdeţi rodul muncii voastre, ci să primiţi o răsplată deplină.

⁹Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

⁹Oricine o ia înainte, şi nu rămîne în învăţătura lui Hristos, n'are pe Dumnezeu. Cine rămîne în învăţătura aceasta, are pe Tatăl şi pe Fiul.

¹⁰If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

¹⁰Dacă vine cineva la voi, şi nu vă aduce învăţătura aceasta, să nu -l primiţi în casă, şi să nu -i ziceţi: ,,Bun venit!``

¹¹For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

¹¹Căci cine -i zice: ,,Bun venit!`` se face părtaş faptelor lui rele.

¹²Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

¹²Aş vrea să vă spun multe lucruri; dar nu voiesc să vi le scriu pe hîrtie şi cu cerneală; ci nădejduiesc să vin la voi, şi să vă vorbesc gură către gură, pentruca bucuria noastră să fie deplină.

¹³The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
