¹It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

¹Dariu a găsit cu cale să pună peste împărăţie o sută două zeci de dregători, cari trebuiau să fie răspîndiţi în toată împărăţia;

²And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

²a pus în fruntea lor trei căpetenii, în numărul cărora era şi Daniel. Dregătorii aceştia aveau să le dea socoteală, ca împăratul să nu sufere nici o pagubă.

³Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

³Daniel însă întrecea pe toate aceste căpetenii şi pe dregători, pentru că în el era un duh înalt; şi împăratul se gîndea să -l pună peste toată împărăţia.

⁴Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

⁴Atunci căpeteniile şi dregătorii au căutat să afle ceva asupra lui Daniel, ca să -l pîrască în ce privea treburile împărăţiei. Dar n'au putut să găsească nimic, niciun lucru vrednic de mustrare, pentrucă el era credincios, şi nu se găsea nici o greşală la el şi niciun lucru rău.

⁵Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

⁵Atunci oamenii aceştia au zis: ,,Nu vom găsi niciun cuvînt de plîngere împotriva acestui Daniel, afară numai dacă am găsi vreunul în Legea Dumnezeului lui!``

⁶Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

⁶Apoi aceste căpetenii şi dregătorii aceştia s'au dus cu mare zarvă la împărat, şi i-au vorbit aşa: ,,Să trăieşti vecinic, împărate Dariu!``

⁷All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

⁷Toate căpeteniile împărăţiei, îngrijitorii, dregătorii, sfetnicii, şi cîrmuitorii sînt de părere să se dea o poruncă împărătească, însoţită de o aspră oprire, care să spună că oricine va înălţa, în timp de trei zeci de zile, rugăciuni către vreun dumnezeu sau către vreun om, afară de tine, împărate, va fi aruncat în groapa cu lei.

⁸Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

⁸Acum, împărate, întăreşte oprirea, şi iscăleşte porunca aceasta, pentru ca să nu se poată schimba, după legea Mezilor şi Perşilor, care, odată dată, rămîne neschimbată.``

⁹Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

⁹În urma celor de mai sus, împăratul Dariu a scris porunca şi oprirea.

¹⁰Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

¹⁰Cînd a aflat Daniel că s'a iscălit porunca, a intrat în casa lui, unde ferestrele odăii de sus erau deschise înspre Ierusalim, şi de trei ori pe zi îngenunchea, se ruga şi lăuda pe Dumnezeul lui, cum făcea şi mai înainte.

¹¹Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

¹¹Atunci oamenii aceştia au dat năvală în casă, şi au găsit pe Daniel rugîndu-se şi chemînd pe Dumnezeul lui.

¹²Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

¹²Apoi s'au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului, şi i-au zis cu privire la oprirea împărătească: ,,N'ai scris tu o oprire, care spune că oricine va înălţa, timp de trei zeci de zile, rugăciuni vreunui dumnezeu sau vreunui om, afară de tine, împărate, să fie aruncat în groapa cu lei? ,,Împăratul a răspuns: ,,Lucrul acesta este adevărat, după legea Mezilor şi Perşilor, care nu se poate schimba!``

¹³Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

¹³Ei au luat din nou cuvîntul şi au zis împăratului: ,,Daniel, unul din prinşii de război ai lui Iuda, nu ţine deloc seama de tine, împărate, nici de oprirea pe care ai scris -o, şi îşi face rugăciunea de trei ori pe zi!``

¹⁴Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

¹⁴Împăratul s'a mîhnit foarte mult cînd a auzit lucrul acesta; s'a gîndit cum ar putea să scape pe Daniel; şi pînă la asfinţitul soarelui s'a trudit să -l scape.

¹⁵Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

¹⁵Dar oamenii aceia au stăruit de împărat, şi i-au zis: ,,Să ştii, împărate, că, după legea Mezilor şi Perşilor, orice oprire sau orice poruncă, întărită de împărat, nu se poate schimba!``

¹⁶Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

¹⁶Atunci împăratul a poruncit să aducă pe Daniel, şi să -l arunce în groapa cu lei. Împăratul a luat cuvîntul şi a zis lui Daniel: ,,Dumnezeul tău, căruia necurmat Îi slujeşti, să te scape!``

¹⁷And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

¹⁷Au adus o piatră, şi au pus -o la gura gropii. Împăratul a pecetluit -o cu inelul lui şi cu inelul mai marilor lui, ca să nu se schimbe nimic cu privire la Daniel.

¹⁸Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

¹⁸Împăratul s'a întors apoi în palatul său, a petrecut noaptea fără să mănînce, nu i s'a adus nicio ţiitoare, şi n'a putut să doarmă.

¹⁹Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

¹⁹În revărsatul zorilor, însă, împăratul s'a sculat şi s'a dus în grabă la groapa cu lei.

²⁰And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

²⁰Şi apropiindu-se de groapă, a chemat pe Daniel cu un glas plîngător. Împăratul a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis lui Daniel: ,,Daniele, robul Dumnezeului celui viu, a putut Dumnezeul tău, căruia îi slujeşti necurmat, să te scape de lei?``

²¹Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

²¹Şi Daniel a zis împăratului: ,,Vecinic să trăieşti, împărate!

²²My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

²²Dumnezeul meu a trimes pe îngerul Său şi a închis gura leilor, cari nu mi-au făcut niciun rău, pentrucă am fost găsit nevinovat înaintea Lui. Şi nici înaintea ta, împărate, n'am făcut nimic rău!``

²³Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

²³Atunci împăratul s'a bucurat foarte mult, şi a poruncit să scoată pe Daniel din groapă. Daniel a fost scos din groapă, şi nu s'a găsit nicio rană pe el, pentrucă avusese încredere în Dumnezeul său.

²⁴And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

²⁴Împăratul a poruncit să aducă pe oamenii aceia cari pîrîseră pe Daniel. Şi au fost aruncaţi în groapa cu lei, ei, copiii lor şi nevestele lor; şi, pînă să ajungă în fundul gropii, leii i-au şi apucat şi le-au fărîmiţat oasele.

²⁵Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

²⁵După aceea, împăratul Dariu a scris o scrisoare către toate popoarele, către toate neamurile, către oamenii de toate limbile, cari locuiau în toată împărăţia: ,,Pacea să vă fie dată din belşug!

²⁶I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

²⁶Poruncesc ca, în toată întinderea împărăţiei mele, oamenii să se teamă şi să se înfricoşeze de Dumnezeul lui Daniel. Căci El este Dumnezeul cel viu, şi El dăinuieşte vecinic; împărăţia Lui nu se va nimici niciodată, şi stăpînirea Lui nu va avea sfîrşit.

²⁷He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

²⁷El izbăveşte şi mîntuieşte, El face semne şi minuni în ceruri şi pe pămînt. El a izbăvit pe Daniel din ghirele leilor!``

²⁸So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

²⁸Daniel a dus -o bine supt domnia lui Dariu şi supt domnia lui Cir, Persanul.
