¹When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

¹Dupăce Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, va nimici toate neamurile acelea a căror ţară ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, dupăce le vei izgoni şi vei locui în cetăţile şi în casele lor,

²Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

²să desparţi trei cetăţi în mijlocul ţării pe care ţi -o dă în stăpînire Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

³Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

³Să faci drumuri, şi să împarţi în trei părţi ţinutul ţării pe care ţi -o va da ca moştenire Domnul, Dumnezeul tău. Să faci aşa, pentruca orice ucigaş să poată fugi în cetăţile acestea.

⁴And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbor ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

⁴Legea aceasta să fie pentru ucigaşul care va fugi acolo ca să-şi scape viaţa, cînd va omorî fără voie pe aproapele său, fără să -i fi fost vrăjmaş mai înainte.

⁵As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbor, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

⁵Aşa, de pildă, un om se va duce să taie lemne în pădure cu un alt om; ridică securea cu mîna, ca să taie copacul, ferul scapă din coadă, loveşte pe tovarăşul său, şi -l omoară. Atunci el să fugă într'una din cetăţile acestea ca să-şi scape viaţa;

⁶Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

⁶pentru ca nu cumva răsbunătorul sîngelui, aprins de mînie şi urmărind pe ucigaş, să -l ajungă, fiind prea lung drumul, şi să lovească de moarte pe cel ce nu era vinovat de moarte, fiindcă mai înainte nu fusese vrăjmaş aproapelui său.

⁷Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

⁷De aceea îţi dau porunca aceasta: Să desparţi trei cetăţi.

⁸And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

⁸Cînd Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îţi va lărgi hotarele, cum a jurat părinţilor tăi, şi-ţi va da toată ţara pe care a făgăduit părinţilor tăi că ţi -o va da,

⁹If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

⁹-numai să păzeşti şi să împlineşti toate aceste porunci pe cari ţi le dau astăzi, ca să iubeşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi să umbli totdeauna pe căile Lui-atunci să mai adaugi trei cetăţi la cele trei,

¹⁰That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

¹⁰pentruca să nu fie vărsat sîngele celui nevinovat în mijlocul ţării pe care ţi -o dă de moştenire Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi astfel să fii vinovat de omor.

¹¹But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

¹¹Dar dacă un om fuge într'una din aceste cetăţi, dupăce a întins laţuri aproapelui său din vrăjmăşie împotriva lui, dupăce s'a aruncat asupra lui şi l -a lovit aşa încît i -a pricinuit moartea,

¹²Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

¹²bătrînii din cetatea lui să trimeată să -l prindă şi să -l dea în mînile răzbunătorului sîngelui, ca să moară.

¹³Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

¹³Să n'ai milă de el, şi să ştergi din Israel sîngele celui nevinovat, ca să fii fericit.

¹⁴Thou shalt not remove thy neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

¹⁴Să nu muţi hotarele aproapelui tău, puse de strămoşii tăi, în moştenirea pe care vei avea -o în ţara pe care ţi -o dă în stăpînire Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

¹⁵One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

¹⁵Un singur martur nu va fi deajuns împotriva unui om, ca să adeverească vreo nelegiuire sau vreun păcat oarecare; un fapt nu va putea fi întemeiat decît pe mărturia a doi sau trei marturi.

¹⁶If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

¹⁶Cînd un martor mincinos se va ridica împotriva cuiva ca să -l învinuiască de vreo nelegiuire,

¹⁷Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;

¹⁷cei doi oameni cu pricina să se înfăţişeze înaintea Domnului, înaintea preoţilor şi judecătorilor cari vor fi atunci în slujbă.

¹⁸And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

¹⁸Judecătorii să facă cercetări amănunţite. Dacă se va afla că martorul acela este un martor mincinos, şi că a făcut o mărturisire mincinoasă împotriva fratelui său,

¹⁹Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

¹⁹atunci să -i faceţi cum avea el de gînd să facă fratelui său. Să scoţi astfel răul din mijlocul tău.

²⁰And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

²⁰În felul acesta, ceilalţi vor auzi şi se vor teme, şi nu se va mai face o faptă aşa de nelegiuită în mijlocul tău.

²¹And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

²¹Să n'ai nici o milă, ci să ceri: viaţă pentru viaţă, ochi pentru ochi, dinte pentru dinte, mînă pentru mînă, picior pentru picior.
