¹And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

¹Toată adunarea copiilor lui Israel a plecat din pustia Sin, după călătoriile zilnice, pe cari poruncise Domnul să le facă; şi au tăbărît la Refidim. Acolo poporul n'a găsit apă de băut.

²Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

²Atunci poporul a căutat ceartă cu Moise. Ei au zis: ,,Dă-ne apă să bem!`` Moise le -a răspuns: ,,Pentruce căutaţi ceartă cu mine? Pentruce ispitiţi pe Domnul?``

³And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

³Poporul stătea acolo, chinuit de sete, şi cîrtea împotriva lui Moise. El zicea: ,,Pentruce ne-ai scos din Egipt, ca să ne faci să murim de sete aici cu copiii şi turmele noastre?``

⁴And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

⁴Moise a strigat către Domnul, şi a zis: ,,Ce să fac cu poporul acesta? Încă puţin, şi au să mă ucidă cu pietre.``

⁵And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

⁵Domnul a zis lui Moise: ,,Treci înaintea poporului, şi ia cu tine vreo cîţiva din bătrînii lui Israel; ia-ţi în mînă şi toiagul cu care ai lovit rîul, şi porneşte!

⁶Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁶Iată, Eu voi sta înaintea ta pe stînca Horebului; vei lovi stînca, şi va ţîşni apă din ea, şi poporul va bea.`` Moise a făcut aşa, în faţa bătrînilor lui Israel.

⁷And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

⁷El a numit locul acela ,,Masa şi Meriba`` (Ispită şi ceartă), căci copiii lui Israel se certaseră, şi ispitiseră pe Domnul, zicînd: ,,Este oare Domnul în mijlocul nostru, sau nu este?``

⁸Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁸Amalec a venit să bată pe Israel la Refidim.

⁹And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

⁹Atunci Moise a zis lui Iosua: ,,Alege nişte bărbaţi, şi ieşi de luptă împotriva lui Amalec. Iar eu voi sta mîne pe vîrful dealului cu toiagul lui Dumnezeu în mînă.``

¹⁰So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

¹⁰Iosua a făcut ce -i spusese Moise, şi a ieşit să lupte împotriva lui Amalec. Iar Moise, Aaron şi Hur s'au suit pe vîrful dealului.

¹¹And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

¹¹Cînd îşi ridica Moise mîna, era mai tare Israel; şi cînd îşi lăsa mînă în jos, era mai tare Amalec.

¹²But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

¹²Mînile lui Moise fiind trudite, ei au luat o piatră, au pus -o subt el, şi el a şezut pe ea. Aaron şi Hur îi sprijineau mînile, unul deoparte, iar altul de alta; şi mînile lui au rămas întinse pînă la asfinţitul soarelui.

¹³And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹³Şi Iosua a biruit pe Amalec şi poporul lui, cu tăişul săbiei.

¹⁴And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

¹⁴Domnul a zis lui Moise: ,,Scrie lucrul acesta în carte, ca să se păstreze aducerea aminte, şi spune lui Iosua că voi şterge pomenirea lui Amalec de subt ceruri.``

¹⁵And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

¹⁵Moise a zidit un altar, şi i -a pus numele ,,Domnul, steagul meu.``

¹⁶For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

¹⁶El a zis: ,,Pentrucă şi -a ridicat mîna împotriva scaunului de domnie al Domnului, Domnul va purta război împotriva lui Amalec, din neam în neam!``
