¹Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

¹Proorocii: Hagai, proorocul, şi Zaharia, fiul lui Ido, au proorocit Iudeilor cari erau în Iuda şi la Ierusalim, în Numele Dumnezeului lui Israel.

²Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

²Atunci Zorobabel, fiul lui Şealtiel, şi Iosua, fiul lui Ioţadac, s'au sculat şi au început zidirea Casei lui Dumnezeu la Ierusalim. Şi împreună cu ei erau şi proorocii lui Dumnezeu cari -i ajutau.

³At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

³În aceeaş vreme, Tatnai, dregătorul de dincoace de Rîu, Şetar-Boznai, şi tovarăşii lor de slujbă au venit la ei şi le-au vorbit aşa: ,,Cine v'a dat învoire să zidiţi casa aceasta şi să ridicaţi zidurile acestea?``

⁴Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

⁴Ei le-au mai zis: ,,Cari sînt numele oamenilor cari zidesc clădirea aceasta?``

⁵But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

⁵Dar ochiul lui Dumnezeu veghea asupra bătrînilor Iudeilor. Şi au lăsat să meargă înainte lucrările pînă la trimeterea unei înştiinţări către Dariu, şi pînă la primirea unei scrisori dela el în această privinţă.

⁶The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

⁶Iată cuprinsul scrisorii trimese împăratului Dariu de Tatnai, dregătorul de dincoace de Rîu, de Şetar-Boznai, şi tovarăşii lor din Afarsac, cari locuiau dincoace de Rîu.

⁷They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

⁷I-au trimes o scrisoare cu următorul cuprins: ,,Către împăratul Dariu, sănătate!

⁸Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

⁸Să ştie împăratul că ne-am dus în ţinuturile lui Iuda, la Casa Dumnezeului celui mare. Ea se zideşte din pietre cioplite, şi în pereţi se pune lemn; lucrul merge repede şi izbuteşte în mînile lor.

⁹Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

⁹Am întrebat pe bătrîni, şi le-am vorbit aşa: ,Cine v'a dat învoire să zidiţi casa aceasta şi să ridicaţi zidurile acestea?`

¹⁰We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

¹⁰Le-am cerut şi numele lor ca să ţi le facem cunoscut, şi am pus în scris numele oamenilor cari sînt în fruntea lor.

¹¹And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

¹¹Iată răspunsul pe care ni l-au dat: ,Noi sîntem slujitorii Dumnezeului cerurilor şi al pămîntului, şi zidim din nou casa care fusese zidită acum mulţi ani. Un mare împărat al lui Israel o zidise şi o isprăvise.

¹²But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

¹²Dar, dupăce părinţii noştri au mîniat pe Dumnezeul cerurilor, El i -a dat în mînile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, Haldeianul, care a nimicit casa aceasta şi a luat pe popor rob la Babilon.

¹³But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

¹³Totuş, în cel dintîi an al lui Cir, împăratul Babilonului, împăratul Cir a dat poruncă să se zidească din nou această casă a lui Dumnezeu.

¹⁴And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

¹⁴Şi chiar împăratul Cir a scos din templul din Babilon uneltele de aur şi de argint ale Casei lui Dumnezeu, pe cari le luase Nebucadneţar din Templul dela Ierusalim şi le dusese în templul din Babilon, le -a dat în mîna aşa zisului Şeşbaţar, pe care l -a pus dregător,

¹⁵And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

¹⁵şi i -a zis: ,Ia uneltele acestea, du-te de le pune în Templul din Ierusalim, şi să se zidească din nou Casa lui Dumnezeu pe locul unde era.`

¹⁶Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

¹⁶Acest Şeşbaţar a venit dar, şi a pus temeliile Casei lui Dumnezeu la Ierusalim. De atunci pînă acum se zideşte ea, şi nu s'a isprăvit.`

¹⁷Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

¹⁷Acum, dacă împăratul găseşte cu cale, să se facă cercetări în casa vistieriilor împăratului la Babilon, ca să vadă dacă s'a dat din partea împăratului Cir o poruncă pentru zidirea Casei acesteia a lui Dumnezeu la Ierusalim. Apoi, să ne trimeată împăratul voinţa lui asupra acestui lucru.
