¹After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

¹După aceste întîmplări, Cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit lui Avram într'o vedenie, şi a zis: ,,Avrame, nu te teme; Eu sînt scutul tău, şi răsplata ta cea foarte mare.``

²And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

²Avram a răspuns: ,,Doamne Dumnezeule, ce-mi vei da? Căci mor fără copii; şi moştenitorul casei mele este Eliezer din Damasc.``

³And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

³Şi Avram a zis: ,,Iată că nu mi-ai dat sămînţă, şi slujitorul născut în casa mea va fi moştenitorul meu.``

⁴And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

⁴Atunci Cuvîntul Domnului i -a vorbit astfel: ,,Nu el va fi moştenitorul tău, ci cel ce va ieşi din tine, acela va fi moştenitorul tău.``

⁵And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

⁵Şi, după ce l -a dus afară, i -a zis: ,,Uită-te spre cer, şi numără stelele, dacă poţi să le numeri.`` Şi i -a zis: ,,Aşa va fi sămînţa ta.``

⁶And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

⁶Avram a crezut pe Domnul, şi Domnul i -a socotit lucrul acesta ca neprihănire.

⁷And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

⁷Domnul i -a mai zis: ,,Eu sînt Domnul, care te-am scos din Ur din Haldea, ca să-ţi dau în stăpînire ţara aceasta.``

⁸And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

⁸Avram a răspuns: ,,Doamne Dumnezeule, prin ce voi cunoaşte că o voi stăpîni?``

⁹And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

⁹Şi Domnul i -a zis: ,,Ia o juncană de trei ani, o capră de trei ani, un berbec de trei ani, o turturea şi un pui de porumbel.``

¹⁰And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

¹⁰Avram a luat toate dobitoacele acestea, le -a despicat în două, şi a pus fiecare bucată una în faţa alteia; dar pasările nu le -a despicat.

¹¹And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.

¹¹Păsările răpitoare s'au năpustit peste stîrvuri; dar Avram le -a izgonit.

¹²And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

¹²La apusul soarelui, un somn adînc a căzut peste Avram; şi iată că l -a apucat o groază şi un mare întunerec.

¹³And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

¹³Şi Domnul a zis lui Avram: ,,Să ştii hotărît că sămînţa ta va fi străină într'o ţară, care nu va fi a ei; acolo va fi robită, şi o vor apăsa greu, timp de patru sute de ani.

¹⁴And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

¹⁴Dar pe neamul căruia îi va fi roabă, îl voi judeca Eu: şi pe urmă va ieşi deacolo cu mari bogăţii.

¹⁵And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

¹⁵Tu vei merge în pace la părinţii tăi; vei fi îngropat după o bătrîneţă fericită.

¹⁶But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

¹⁶În al patrulea neam, ea se va întoarce aici; căci nelegiuirea Amoriţilor nu şi -a atins încă vîrful.``

¹⁷And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

¹⁷După ce a asfinţit soarele, s'a făcut un întunerec adînc; şi iată că a ieşit un fum ca dintr'un cuptor, şi nişte flăcări au trecut printre dobitoacele despicate.

¹⁸In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

¹⁸În ziua aceea, Domnul a făcut un legămînt cu Avram, şi i -a zis: ,,Seminţei tale dau ţara aceasta, dela rîul Egiptului pînă la rîul cel mare, rîul Eufrat,

¹⁹The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

¹⁹şi anume; ţara Cheniţilor, a Cheniziţilor, a Cadmoniţilor,

²⁰And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim,

²⁰a Hetiţilor, a Fereziţilor, a Refaimiţilor,

²¹And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

²¹a Amoriţilor, a Cananiţilor, a Ghirgasiţilor şi a Iebusiţilor.``
