¹And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.

¹Iacov a auzit vorbele fiilor lui Laban, cari ziceau: ,,Iacov a luat tot ce era al tatălui nostru, şi cu averea tatălui nostru şi -a agonisit el toată bogăţia aceasta.``

²And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

²Iacov s'a uitat şi la faţa lui Laban; şi iată că ea nu mai era ca înainte.

³And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

³Atunci Domnul a zis lui Iacov: ,,Întoarce-te în ţara părinţilor tăi şi în locul tău de naştere; şi Eu voi fi cu tine.``

⁴And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

⁴Iacov a trimes de a chemat pe Rahela şi pe Lea, la cîmp la turma lui.

⁵And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

⁵El le -a zis: ,,După faţa tatălui vostru, văd bine că el nu mai este ca înainte; dar Dumnezeul tatălui meu a fost cu mine.

⁶And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.

⁶Voi înşivă ştiţi că am slujit tatălui vostru cu toată puterea mea.

⁷And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

⁷Şi tatăl vostru m'a înşelat: de zece ori mi -a schimbat simbria; dar Dumnezeu nu i -a îngăduit să mă păgubească.

⁸If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ring-streaked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ring-streaked.

⁸Ci cînd zicea el: ,,Mieii pestriţi să fie simbria ta,`` toate oile făceau miei pestriţi. Şi cînd zicea: ,,Mieii bălţaţi să fie simbria ta,`` toate oile făceau miei bălţaţi.

⁹Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

⁹Dumnezeu a luat astfel toată turma tatălui vostru, şi mi -a dat -o mie.

¹⁰And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled.

¹⁰Pe vremea cînd se înferbîntau oile, eu am ridicat ochii, şi am văzut în vis că ţapii şi berbecii cari săreau pe capre şi pe oi, erau bălţaţi, pestriţi şi seini.

¹¹And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

¹¹Şi Îngerul lui Dumnezeu mi -a zis în vis: ,,Iacove!`` ,,Iată-mă``, am răspuns eu.

¹²And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.

¹²El a zis: ,,Ridică ochii, şi priveşte: toţi ţapii şi berbecii, cari sar pe capre şi pe oi, sînt bălţaţi, pestriţi şi seini; căci am văzut tot ce ţi -a făcut Laban.

¹³I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

¹³Eu sînt Dumnezeul din Betel, unde ai uns un stîlp de aducere aminte, unde Mi-ai făcut o juruinţă. Acum, scoală-te, ieşi din ţara aceasta, şi întoarce-te în ţara ta de naştere.``

¹⁴And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

¹⁴Rahela şi Lea au răspuns, şi i-au zis: ,,Mai avem noi oare parte şi moştenire în casa tatălui nostru?

¹⁵Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.

¹⁵Nu sîntem noi oare privite de el ca nişte străine, fiindcă ne -a vîndut, şi ne -a mîncat şi banii?

¹⁶For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

¹⁶Toată bogăţia, pe care a luat -o Dumnezeu dela tatăl nostru, este a noastră, şi a copiilor noştri. Fă acum tot ce ţi -a spus Dumnezeu.``

¹⁷Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

¹⁷Iacov s'a sculat, şi a pus pe copiii şi nevestele sale călări pe cămile.

¹⁸And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

¹⁸Şi -a luat toată turma şi toate averile pe cari le avea: turma, pe care o agonisise în Padan-Aram; şi a plecat la tatăl său Isaac, în ţara Canaan.

¹⁹And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

¹⁹Pe cînd Laban se dusese să-şi tundă oile, Rahela a furat idolii tatălui său;

²⁰And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

²⁰şi Iacov a înşelat pe Laban, Arameul, căci nu l -a înştiinţat de fuga sa.

²¹So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

²¹A fugit astfel cu tot ce avea; s'a sculat, a trecut Rîul (Eufrat), şi s -a îndreptat spre muntele Galaad.

²²And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

²²A treia zi, au dat de veste lui Laban că Iacov a fugit.

²³And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

²³Laban a luat cu el pe fraţii săi, l -a urmărit cale de şapte zile, şi l -a ajuns la muntele Galaad.

²⁴And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁴Dar Dumnezeu S -a arătat noaptea în vis lui Laban, Arameul, şi i -a zis: ,,Fereşte-te să spui o vorbă rea lui Iacov!``

²⁵Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

²⁵Laban a ajuns dar pe Iacov. Iacov îşi întinsese cortul pe munte; Laban şi -a întins şi el cortul cu fraţii lui, pe muntele Galaad.

²⁶And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

²⁶Atunci Laban a zis lui Iacov: ,,Ce-ai făcut? Pentruce m'ai înşelat, şi mi-ai luat fetele ca pe nişte roabe luate cu sabia?

²⁷Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

²⁷Pentruce ai fugit pe ascuns, m'ai înşelat, şi nu mi-ai dat de ştire? Te-aş fi lăsat să pleci în mijlocul veseliei şi al cîntecelor, în sunet de timpane şi alăută.

²⁸And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

²⁸Nu mi-ai îngăduit nici măcar să-mi sărut nepoţii şi fetele! Ca un nebun ai lucrat.

²⁹It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁹Mîna mea este destul de tare ca să vă fac rău; dar Dumnezeul tatălui vostru mi -a zis în noaptea trecută: ,,Fereşte-te să spui o vorbă rea lui Iacov!``

³⁰And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?

³⁰Dar acum, odată ce ai plecat, pentrucă te topeşti de dor după casa tatălui tău, de ce mi-ai furat dumnezeii mei?``

³¹And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.

³¹Drept răspuns, Iacov a zis lui Laban: ,,Am fugit, fiindcă mi-era frică, gîndindu-mă că poate îmi vei lua înapoi fetele tale.

³²With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

³²Dar să piară acela la care îţi vei găsi dumnezeii tăi! În faţa fraţilor noştri, cercetează şi vezi ce -i la mine din ale tale, şi ia-ţi -l.`` Iacov nu ştia că Rahela îi furase.

³³And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

³³Laban a intrat în cortul lui Iacov, în cortul Leii, în cortul celor două roabe, şi n'a găsit nimic. A ieşit din cortul Leii, şi a intrat în cortul Rahelii.

³⁴Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

³⁴Rahela luase idolii, îi pusese subt samarul cămilei, şi şezuse deasupra. Laban a scotocit tot cortul, dar n'a găsit nimic.

³⁵And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.

³⁵Ea a zis tatălui său: ,,Domnul meu, să nu te superi dacă nu mă pot scula înaintea ta; căci mi -a venit rînduiala femeilor.`` A căutat peste tot, dar n'a găsit idolii.

³⁶And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

³⁶Iacov s'a mîniat, şi a certat pe Laban. A luat din nou cuvîntul, şi i -a zis: ,,Care este nelegiuirea mea şi care este păcatul meu, de mă urmăreşti cu atîta înverşunare?

³⁷Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

³⁷Mi-ai scormonit toate lucrurile, şi ce ai găsit din lucrurile din casa ta? Scoate-le aici înaintea fraţilor mei şi fraţilor tăi, ca să judece ei între noi amîndoi!

³⁸This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

³⁸Iată, am stat la tine două zeci de ani; oile şi caprele nu ţi s'au stărpit, şi n'am mîncat berbeci din turma ta.

³⁹That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

³⁹Nu ţi-am adus acasă vite sfăşiate de fiare: eu însumi te-am despăgubit pentru ele; îmi cereai înapoi ce mi se fura ziua, sau ce mi se fura noaptea.

⁴⁰Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

⁴⁰Ziua mă topeam de căldură, iar noaptea mă prăpădeam de frig, şi-mi fugea somnul de pe ochi.

⁴¹Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

⁴¹Iată, douăzeci de ani am stat în casa ta, ţi-am slujit patrusprezece ani pentru cele două fete ale tale, şi şase ani pentru turma ta, şi de zece ori mi-ai schimbat simbria.

⁴²Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

⁴²Dacă n'aş fi avut cu mine pe Dumnezeul tatălui meu, pe Dumnezeul lui Avraam, pe Acela de care se teme Isaac, mi-ai fi dat drumul acum cu mîinile goale. Dar Dumnezeu a văzut suferinţa mea şi osteneala mîinilor mele, şi ieri noapte a rostit judecata.``

⁴³And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?

⁴³Drept răspuns, Laban a zis lui Iacov: ,,Fiicele acestea sînt fiicele mele, copiii aceştia sînt copiii mei, turma aceasta este turma mea, şi tot ce vezi este al meu. Şi ce pot face eu azi pentru fiicele mele, sau pentru copiii lor, pe cari i-au născut?

⁴⁴Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

⁴⁴Vino, să facem amîndoi un legămînt, şi legămîntul acesta să slujească de mărturie între mine şi tine!``

⁴⁵And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

⁴⁵Iacov a luat o piatră, şi a pus -o ca stîlp de aducere aminte.

⁴⁶And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

⁴⁶Iacov a zis fraţilor săi: ,,Strîngeţi pietre.`` Ei au strîns petre, şi au făcut o movilă; şi au mîncat acolo pe movilă.

⁴⁷And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

⁴⁷Laban a numit -o Iegar-Sahaduta (Movila mărturiei), şi Iacov a numit -o Galed (Movila mărturiei).

⁴⁸And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

⁴⁸Laban a zis: ,,Movila aceasta să slujească azi de mărturie între mine şi tine!`` Deaceea i-au pus numele Galed.

⁴⁹And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

⁴⁹Se mai numeşte şi Miţpa (Veghiere), pentrucă Laban a zis: ,,Domnul să vegheze asupra mea şi asupra ta, cînd ne vom pierde din vedere unul pe altul.

⁵⁰If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

⁵⁰Dacă vei asupri pe fetele mele, şi dacă vei mai lua şi alte neveste afară de fetele mele, ia bine seama că nu un om va fi cu noi, ci Dumnezeu va fi martor între mine şi tine.``

⁵¹And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee:

⁵¹Laban a zis lui Iacov: ,,Iată movila aceasta, şi iată stîlpul acesta, pe care l-am ridicat între mine şi tine.

⁵²This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.

⁵²Movila aceasta să fie martoră şi stîlpul acesta să fie martor că nici eu nu voi trece la tine peste movila aceasta, şi nici tu nu vei trece la mine peste movila aceasta şi peste stîlpul acesta, ca să ne facem rău.

⁵³The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.

⁵³Dumnezeul lui Avraam şi al lui Nahor, Dumnezeul tatălui lor să judece între noi.`` Iacov a jurat pe Acela de care se temea Isaac.

⁵⁴Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

⁵⁴Iacov a adus o jertfă pe munte, şi a poftit pe fraţii lui să mănînce; ei au mîncat, şi au rămas toată noaptea pe munte.

⁵⁵And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

⁵⁵Laban s'a sculat disdedimineaţă, şi -a sărutat nepoţii şi fetele, şi i -a binecuvîntat. Apoi a plecat şi s'a întors la locuinţa lui.
