¹And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

¹Dumnezeu a zis lui Iacov: ,,Scoală-te, suie-te la Betel, locuieşte acolo, şi ridică acolo un altar Dumnezeului, care ţi S'a arătat cînd fugeai de fratele tău Esau.``

²Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

²Iacov a zis casei lui şi tuturor celor ce erau cu el: ,,Scoateţi dumnezeii străini cari sînt în mijlocul vostru, curăţiţi-vă, şi schimbaţi-vă hainele,

³And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

³ca să ne sculăm, şi să ne suim la Betel; căci acolo voi ridica un altar Dumnezeului, care m'a ascultat în ziua necazului meu, şi care a fost cu mine în călătoria, pe care am făcut -o.``

⁴And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

⁴Ei au dat lui Iacov toţi dumnezeii străini, cari erau în mînile lor, şi cerceii pe cari -i purtau în urechi. Iacov i -a îngropat în pămînt supt stejarul de lîngă Sihem.

⁵And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

⁵Apoi au plecat. Groaza lui Dumnezeu s'a răspîndit peste cetăţile, cari -i înconjurau, aşa că locuitorii lor n'au urmărit pe fiii lui Iacov.

⁶So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

⁶Iacov şi toţi ceice erau cu el, au ajuns la Luz, adică Betel, în ţara Canaan.

⁷And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

⁷A zidit acolo un altar, şi a numit locul acela: ,,El-Betel`` (Dumnezeul Betelului), căci acolo i se descoperise Dumnezeu, cînd fugea de fratele său.

⁸But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

⁸Debora, doica Rebecii, a murit; şi a fost îngropată mai jos de Betel, subt stejarul căruia i s'a pus numele: ,,Stejarul jalei.``

⁹And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.

⁹Dumnezeu S'a arătat iarăş lui Iacov, după întoarcerea lui din Padan-Aram, şi l -a binecuvîntat.

¹⁰And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.

¹⁰Dumnezeu i -a zis: ,,Numele tău este Iacov; dar nu te vei mai chema Iacov, ci numele tău va fi Israel.`` Şi i -a pus numele Israel.

¹¹And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

¹¹Dumnezeu i -a zis: ,,Eu sînt Dumnezeul Cel Atotputernic. Creşte şi înmulţeşte-te; un neam şi o mulţime de neamuri se vor naşte din tine, şi chiar împăraţi vor ieşi din coapsele tale.

¹²And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

¹²Ţie îţi voi da ţara pe care am dat -o lui Avraam şi lui Isaac, şi voi da ţara aceasta seminţei tale după tine.``

¹³And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

¹³Dumnezeu S'a înălţat dela el, în locul unde îi vorbise.

¹⁴And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

¹⁴Şi Iacov a ridicat un stîlp de aducere aminte în locul unde îi vorbise Dumnezeu, un stîlp de piatră, pe care a adus o jertfă de băutură, şi a turnat untdelemn.

¹⁵And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.

¹⁵Iacov a numit locul unde îi vorbise Dumnezeu, Betel.

¹⁶And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.

¹⁶Apoi au plecat din Betel; şi mai era o depărtare bunicică pînă la Efrata, cînd Rahelei i-au venit durerile naşterii. A avut o naştere grea;

¹⁷And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

¹⁷şi în timpul durerilor naşterii, moaşa i -a zis: ,,Nu te teme, căci mai ai un fiu!``

¹⁸And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

¹⁸Şi pe cînd îşi dădea ea sufletul, căci trăgea să moară, i -a pus numele Ben-Oni (Fiul durerii mele): dar tatăl său l -a numit Beniamin (Fiul dreptei).

¹⁹And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

¹⁹Rahela a murit, şi a fost îngropată pe drumul care duce la Efrata, sau Betleem.

²⁰And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

²⁰Iacov a ridicat un stîlp pe mormîntul ei: acesta este stîlpul depe mormîntul Rahelei, care este şi azi.

²¹And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

²¹Israel a plecat mai departe; şi şi -a întins cortul dincolo de Migdal-Eder.

²²And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

²²Pe cînd locuia Israel în ţinutul acesta, Ruben s'a dus şi s'a culcat cu Bilha, ţiitoarea tatălui său. Şi Israel a aflat.

²³The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:

²³Fiii Leii: Ruben, întîiul născut al lui Iacov, Simeon, Levi, Iuda, Isahar, şi Zabulon. -

²⁴The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:

²⁴Fiii Rahelii: Iosif şi Beniamin.

²⁵And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:

²⁵Fiii Bilhei, roaba Rahelii: Dan şi Neftali. -

²⁶And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

²⁶Fiii Zilpei, roaba Leii: Gad şi Aşer. Aceştia sînt fiii lui Iacov, cari i s'au născut în Padan-Aram.

²⁷And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arba, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

²⁷Iacov a ajuns la tatăl său Isaac, la Mamre la Chiriat-Arba, care este tot una cu Hebronul, unde locuiseră ca străini Avraam şi Isaac.

²⁸And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

²⁸Zilele vieţii lui Isaac au fost de o sutăoptzeci de ani.

²⁹And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹Isaac şi -a dat duhul şi a murit, şi a fost adăugat la poporul său, bătrîn şi sătul de zile. Fiii săi Esau şi Iacov l-au îngropat.
