¹Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

¹Iată, Domnul deşartă ţara şi o pustieşte, îi răstoarnă faţa şi risipeşte locuitorii;

²And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

²cum se întîmplă preotului se întîmplă şi poporului, stăpînului ca şi slugii, stăpînei ca şi slujnicei, vînzătorului ca şi cumpărătorului, celui ce dă cu împrumut ca şi celui ce ia cu împrumut, datornicului ca şi cel căruia îi este dator.

³The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

³Ţara este pustiită de tot şi prădată; căci Domnul a hotărît aşa.

⁴The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

⁴Ţara este tristă, sleită de puteri; locuitorii sînt mîhniţi şi tînjesc; căpeteniile poporului sînt fără putere,

⁵The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

⁵căci ţara a fost spurcată de locuitorii ei; ei călcau legile, nu ţineau poruncile, şi rupeau legămîntul cel vecinic!

⁶Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

⁶De aceea mănîncă blestemul ţara, şi sufăr locuitorii ei pedeapsa nelegiuirilor lor; de aceea sînt prăpădiţi locuitorii ţării, şi nu mai rămîne decît un mic număr din ei.

⁷The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

⁷Mustul stă trist, via este veştejită; toţi cei ce erau cu inima veselă, suspină.

⁸The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

⁸A încetat desfătarea timpanelor, s'a sfîrşit veselia gălăgiosă, s'a dus bucuria arfei.

⁹They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

⁹Nu se mai cîntă cînd se bea vin, şi băuturile tari li se par amare celor ce le beau.

¹⁰The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

¹⁰Cetatea pustie este dărîmată; toate casele sînt închise, nu mai intră nimeni în ele.

¹¹There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

¹¹Pe uliţe se strigă după vin; s'a dus orice desfătare, nu mai este nicio veselie în ţară.

¹²In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

¹²Numai pustiire a mai rămas în cetate, şi porţile stau dărîmate.

¹³When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

¹³Da, în ţară, în mijlocul popoarelor, este ca atunci cînd se scutură măslinul, sau ca la culesul ciorchinelor rămase după culesul viei.

¹⁴They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

¹⁴Ceilalţi însă, cari vor mai rămînea, îşi înălţă glasul, scot strigăte de veselie; de pe ţărmurile mării, laudă măreţia Domnului.

¹⁵Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

¹⁵,,Proslăviţi dar pe Domnul în locurile unde străluceşte lumină, lăudaţi Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului lui Israel, în ostroavele mării!``

¹⁶From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

¹⁶Dela marginele pămîntului auzim cîntînd: ,,Slavă celui neprihănit!`` Dar eu zic: ,,Sînt perdut! Sînt perdut! Vai de mine!`` Jăfuitorii jăfuiesc, jăfuitorii se înverşunează la jaf.

¹⁷Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

¹⁷Groaza, groapa, şi laţul, vin peste tine, locuitor al ţării!

¹⁸And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

¹⁸Cel ce fuge dinaintea strigătelor de groază cade în groapă, şi cel ce se ridică din groapă se prinde în laţ; căci se deschid stăvilarele de sus, şi se clatină temeliile pămîntului!

¹⁹The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

¹⁹Pămîntul se rupe, pămîntul se sfărîmă, pămîntul se crapă,

²⁰The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

²⁰pămîntul se clatină ca un om beat, tremură ca o colibă; păcatul lui îl apasă, cade, şi nu se mai ridică.

²¹And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

²¹În ziua aceea, Domnul va pedepsi în cer oştirea de sus, iar pe pămînt pe împăraţii pămîntului.

²²And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

²²Aceştia vor fi strînşi ca prinşi de război şi puşi într'o temniţă, vor fi închişi în gherle, şi, după un mare număr de zile, vor fi pedepsiţi

²³Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

²³Luna va fi acoperită de ruşine, şi soarele de groază; căci Domnul oştirilor va împărăţi pe muntele Sionului şi la Ierusalim, strălucind de slavă în faţa bătrînilor Lui.
