¹Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

¹Vai de cununa îngîmfată a beţivilor lui Efraim, de floarea veştejită, care este strălucirea podoabei sale, pe culmea văii mănoase a celor ce se îmbată!

²Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

²Iată că vine dela Domnul, un om tare şi puternic, ca o furtună de piatră, ca o vijelie nimicitoare, ca o rupere de nori cu mari şivoaie de ape, care o doboară cu putere la pămînt.

³The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

³Va fi călcată în picioare, cununa îngîmfată a beţivilor lui Efraim;

⁴And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.

⁴şi floarea veştejită, care este strălucirea podoabei ei, pe culmea văii mănoase, va fi ca o smochină timpurie care se vede înainte de culesul roadelor şi pe care, abia o iei în mînă, şi îndată o şi înghiţi.

⁵In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,

⁵În ziua aceea, Domnul oştirilor va fi o cunună strălucitoare şi o podoabă măreaţă pentru rămăşiţa poporului,

⁶And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

⁶sau: un duh de dreptate pentru cel ce şade pe scaunul de judecată, şi o putere pentru cei ce dau pe vrăjmaş înapoi pînă la porţile lui.

⁷But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

⁷Dar şi ei, se clatină de vin, şi băuturile tari îi ameţesc; preoţi şi prooroci sînt îmbătaţi de băuturi tari, sînt stăpîniţi de vin, au ameţeli din pricina băuturilor tari; se clatină cînd proorocesc, se poticnesc cînd judecă.

⁸For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

⁸Toate mesele sînt pline de vărsături murdare, şi nu mai este nici un loc curat. -

⁹Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

⁹Ei zic: ,,Pe cine vrea el să înveţe înţelepciunea? Cui vrea să dea învăţături? Unor copii înţărcaţi de curînd, luaţi dela ţîţă?

¹⁰For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

¹⁰Căci dă învăţătură peste învăţătură, învăţătură peste învăţătură, poruncă peste poruncă, poruncă peste poruncă, puţin aici, puţin acolo.`` -

¹¹For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

¹¹Ei bine! Prin nişte oameni cu buze bîlbăitoare şi cu vorbirea străină va vorbi poporului acestuia Domnul.

¹²To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

¹²El îi zicea: ,,Iată odihna; lăsaţi pe cel ostenit să se odihnească; iată locul de odihnă!`` Dar ei n'au vrut să asculte,

¹³But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

¹³şi pentru ei cuvîntul Domnului va fi: ,,Învăţătură peste învăţătură, învăţătură peste învăţătură, poruncă peste poruncă, poruncă peste poruncă, puţin aici, puţin acolo``, ca mergînd, să cadă pe spate şi să se zdrobească, să dea în laţ şi să fie prinşi.

¹⁴Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

¹⁴De aceea ascultaţi Cuvîntul Domnului, batjocoritorilor, cari stăpîniţi peste poporul acesta din Ierusalim!

¹⁵Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

¹⁵Pentrucă ziceţi: ,,Noi am făcut un legămînt cu moartea, am făcut o învoială cu locuinţa morţilor: cînd va trece urgia apelor năvălitoare, nu ne va atinge, căci avem ca loc de scăpare neadevărul şi ca adăpost minciuna!``

¹⁶Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

¹⁶deaceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu: ,,Iată, pun ca temelie în Sion o piatră, o piatră încercată, o piatră de preţ, piatră din capul unghiului clădirii, temelie puternică; cel ce o va lua ca sprijin, nu se va grăbi să fugă.

¹⁷Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

¹⁷Voi face din neprihănire o lege, şi din dreptate o cumpănă; şi grindina va surpa locul de scăpare al neadevărului, şi apele vor îneca adăpostul minciunii.

¹⁸And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

¹⁸Aşa că legămîntul vostru cu moartea va fi nimicit, şi învoiala voastră cu locuinţa morţilor nu va dăinui. Cînd va trece urgia apelor năvălitoare, veţi fi striviţi de ea.

¹⁹From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

¹⁹Ori de cîte ori va trece, vă va apuca; căci va trece în toate dimineţile, zi şi noapte, şi numai vuietul ei vă va îngrozi.``

²⁰For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

²⁰Patul va fi prea scurt, ca să te întinzi în el, şi învelitoarea prea îngustă, ca să te înveleşti cu ea.

²¹For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

²¹Căci Domnul Se va scula ca la muntele Peraţim, şi Se va mînia ca în valea Gabaonului, ca să-Şi facă lucrarea, lucrarea Lui ciudată, ca să-Şi împlinească lucrul, lucrul Lui nemaiauzit.

²²Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

²²Acum, nu batjocoriţi, ca nu cumva să vi se strîngă mai tare legăturile; căci am aflat dela Domnul, Dumnezeul oştirilor, că nimicirea întregei ţări este hotărîtă.

²³Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

²³,,Plecaţi-vă urechea, şi ascultaţi glasul meu! Fiţi cu luare aminte, şi ascultaţi cuvîntul meu!

²⁴Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?

²⁴Cel ce ară pentru sămănătură, ară oare necontenit? Necontenit îşi brăzdează şi îşi grăpează el pămîntul?

²⁵When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?

²⁵Oare după ce a netezit faţa pămîntului, nu aruncă el măzăriche şi samănă chimen? Nu pune el grîul în rînduri, orzul într'un loc deosebit, şi alacul pe margini?

²⁶For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.

²⁶Dumnezeul lui l -a învăţat să facă aşa, El i -a dat aceste învăţături.

²⁷For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.

²⁷Măzărichea nu se treieră cu leasa, şi roata carului nu trece peste chimen; ci măzărichea se bate cu băţul, şi chimenul cu nuiaua.

²⁸Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.

²⁸Grîul se bate, dar nu se bate necontenit; împingi peste el roata carului şi caii, dar nu -l sfărîmi.

²⁹This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.

²⁹Şi lucrul acesta vine dela Domnul oştirilor; minunat este planul Lui, şi mare este înţelepciunea Lui.``
