¹From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

¹De unde vin luptele şi certurile între voi? Nu vin oare din poftele voastre, cari se luptă în mădularele voastre?

²Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

²Voi poftiţi, şi nu aveţi; ucideţi, pizmuiţi, şi nu izbutiţi să căpătaţi; vă certaţi, şi vă luptaţi; şi nu aveţi, pentrucă nu cereţi.

³Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

³Sau cereţi şi nu căpătaţi, pentrucă cereţi rău, cu gînd să risipiţi în plăcerile voastre.

⁴Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

⁴Suflete prea curvare! Nu ştiţi că prietenia lumii este vrăjmăşie cu Dumnezeu? Aşa că cine vrea să fie prieten cu lumea se face vrăjmaş cu Dumnezeu.

⁵Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

⁵Credeţi că degeaba vorbeşte Scriptura? Duhul, pe care L -a pus Dumnezeu să locuiască în noi, ne vrea cu gelozie pentru Sine.

⁶But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

⁶Dar, în schimb, ne dă un har şi mai mare. De aceea zice Scriptura: ,,Dumnezeu stă împotriva celor mîndri, dar dă har celor smeriţi.``

⁷Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁷Supuneţi-vă dar lui Dumnezeu. Împotriviţi-vă diavolului, şi el va fugi dela voi.

⁸Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

⁸Apropiaţi-vă de Dumnezeu, şi El Se va apropia de voi. Curăţiţi-vă mînile, păcătoşilor; curăţiţi-vă inima, oameni cu inima împărţită!

⁹Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁹Simţiţi-vă ticăloşia; tînguiţi-vă şi plîngeţi! Rîsul vostru să se prefacă în tînguire, şi bucuria voastră în întristare:

¹⁰Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹⁰Smeriţi-vă înaintea Domnului, şi El vă va înălţa.

¹¹Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

¹¹Nu vă vorbiţi de rău unii pe alţii, fraţilor! Cine vorbeşte de rău pe un frate, sau judecă pe fratele său, vorbeşte de rău Legea sau judecă Legea. Şi dacă judeci Legea, nu eşti împlinitor al Legii, ci judecător.

¹²There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

¹²Unul singur este dătătorul şi judecătorul Legii: Acela care are putere să mîntuiască şi să piardă. Dar tu cine eşti de judeci pe aproapele tău?

¹³Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

¹³Ascultaţi, acum, voi cari ziceţi: ,,Astăzi sau mîne ne vom duce în cutare cetate, vom sta acolo un an, vom face negustorie, şi vom cîştiga!``

¹⁴Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

¹⁴Şi nu ştiţi ce va aduce ziua de mîne! Căci ce este viaţa voastră? Nu sînteţi decît un abur, care se arată puţintel, şi apoi piere. -

¹⁵For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

¹⁵Voi, dimpotrivă, ar trebui să ziceţi: ,,Dacă va vrea Domnul, vom trăi şi vom face cutare sau cutare lucru.``

¹⁶But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

¹⁶Pe cînd acum vă făliţi cu lăudăroşiile voastre! Orice laudă de felul acesta este rea.

¹⁷Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

¹⁷Deci, cine ştie să facă bine şi nu face, săvîrşeşte un păcat!
