¹Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

¹,,Aşa mi -a vorbit Domnul: ,Du-te de cumpără-ţi un brîu de in, şi pune -l în jurul coapselor tale; dar să nu -l moi în apă!`

²So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

²Am cumpărat brîul, după porunca Domnului, şi l-am pus în jurul coapselor mele.

³And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

³Apoi Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit a doua oară, astfel:

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

⁴,Ia brîul, pe care l-ai cumpărat, şi pe care l-ai pus în jurul coapselor tale, scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat, şi ascunde -l acolo în crăpătura unei stînci.`

⁵So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

⁵M'am dus, şi l-am ascuns la Eufrat, cum îmi poruncise Domnul.

⁶And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶După mai multe zile, Domnul mi -a zis: ,Scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat, şi ia de acolo brîul, pe care-ţi poruncisem să -l ascunzi acolo!`

⁷Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁷M'am dus la Eufrat, am săpat, şi am luat brîul din locul în care -l ascunsesem; dar iată că brîul era stricat şi nu mai era bun de nimic.

⁸Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁸Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

⁹Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Aşa voi nimici mîndria lui Iuda şi mîndria peste măsură de mare a Ierusalimului.

¹⁰This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

¹⁰Poporul acesta este un popor rău: nu vrea să asculte cuvintele Mele, urmează pornirile inimii lui, şi merge după alţi dumnezei, ca să le slujească şi să se închine înaintea lor; de aceea va ajunge întocmai ca brîul acesta, care nu mai este bun de nimic!

¹¹For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹Căci, cum se lipeşte brîul de coapsele unui om, aşa Îmi lipisem Eu toată casa lui Israel şi toată casa lui Iuda, zice Domnul, ca să fie poporul Meu, Numele Meu, lauda Mea şi slava Mea; dar nu M'au ascultat.

¹²Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹²De aceea spune-le cuvintele acestea: ,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Toate vasele se vor umplea cu vin!` Şi ei îţi vor zice: ,Crezi că noi nu ştim, că toate vasele se vor umplea cu vin?`

¹³Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³Atunci spune-le: ,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Iată, voi umplea pe toţi locuitorii ţării acesteia, pe împăraţii cari stau pe scaunul de domnie al lui David, pe preoţi, pe prooroci, şi pe toţi locuitorii Ierusalimului, îi voi umplea de beţie.

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

¹⁴Îi voi sfărîma pe unii de alţii, pe părinţi şi pe fii laolaltă, zice Domnul. ,Nu -i voi cruţa, nu voi avea milă de ei, nu Mă voi îndura de ei, nimic nu Mă va împedeca să -i nimicesc.``

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

¹⁵,,Ascultaţi şi luaţi aminte! Nu fiţi mîndri, căci Domnul vorbeşte!

¹⁶Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹⁶Daţi slavă Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, pînă nu vine întunerecul, pînă nu vi se lovesc picioarele de munţii nopţii! Veţi aştepta lumina, dar El o va preface în umbra morţii, şi o va preface în negură adîncă.

¹⁷But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

¹⁷Iar dacă nu vreţi să ascultaţi, voi plînge în ascuns, pentru mîndria voastră; mi se vor topi ochii în lacrămi, pentrucă turma Domnului va fi dusă în robie.

¹⁸Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁸Spune împăratului şi împărătesei: ,Şedeţi pe pămînt! Căci v'a căzut de pe cap cununa împărărtească ce vă slujea ca podoabă.``

¹⁹The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹,,Cetăţile dela miazăzi sînt închise, şi nu -i cine să deschidă. Tot Iuda este dus în robie, da, în întregime este dus în robie.``

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰,,Ridică-ţi ochii şi priveşte pe ceice vin dela miazănoapte. Unde este turma care-ţi fusese dată, turma de care erai aşa de mîndru?

²¹What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

²¹Ce vei zice cînd va pune mai mari peste tine pe străinii aceia pe cari i-ai obicinuit să-ţi fie prieteni de aproape? Nu te vor apuca durerile, cum apucă pe o femeie la naştere?

²²And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

²²Şi dacă vei zice în inima ta: ,Pentruce mi se întîmplă lucrul acesta?`` -,,Din pricina mulţimii nelegiuirilor tale, ţi s'au ridicat poalele hainelor, şi ţi se dezgolesc călcîile cu sila.

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

²³Poate un Etiopian să-şi schimbe pielea, sau un pardos să-şi schimbe petele? Tot aşa, aţi putea voi să faceţi binele, voi, cari sînteţi deprinşi să faceţi răul?

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴De aceea, îi voi risipi, ca pleava luată de vîntul pustiei.

²⁵This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁵Iată-ţi soarta, partea pe care ţi -o măsor, zice Domnul, pentrucă M'ai uitat, şi ţi-ai pus încrederea în minciună.

²⁶Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

²⁶De aceea îţi voi ridica poalele şi ţi le voi da peste cap, ca să ţi se vadă ruşinea.

²⁷I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

²⁷Am văzut preacurviile şi nechezăturile tale, curviile nelegiuite pe dealuri şi în ogoare, ţi-am văzut urîciunile! Vai de tine, Ierusalime! Nu vrei să te curăţi? Cît vei mai zăbovi?``
