¹The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

¹Domnul mi -a arătat două coşuri cu smochine, puse înaintea Templului Domnului, după ce Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, strămutase din Ierusalim şi dusese în Babilon, pe Ieconia, fiul lui Ioiachim, împăratul lui Iuda, pe căpeteniile lui Iuda, pe lemnari şi ferari.

²One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

²Unul din coşuri avea smochine foarte bune, ca smochinele cari se coc întîi, iar celalt coş avea smochine foarte rele, cari nu se puteau mînca de rele ce erau.

³Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

³Domnul mi -a zis: ,,Ce vezi, Ieremio?`` Eu am răspuns: ,,Nişte smochine! Smochinele cele bune sînt foarte bune, iar cele rele sînt foarte rele şi, de rele ce sînt, nu se pot mînca.``

⁴Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁴Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

⁵Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

⁵,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Cum deosebeşti tu aceste smochine bune, aşa voi deosebi Eu, ca să le dau îndurare, pe prinşii de război ai lui Iuda, pe cari i-am trimes din locul acesta în ţara Haldeilor;

⁶For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

⁶Îi voi privi cu un ochi binevoitor, şi -i voi aduce înapoi în ţara aceasta: îi voi aşeza şi nu -i voi mai nimici, îi voi sădi şi nu -i voi mai smulge.

⁷And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

⁷Le voi da o inimă ca să înţeleagă că Eu sînt Domnul. Ei vor fi poporul Meu, iar Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor, dacă se vor întoarce la Mine cu toată inima lor.

⁸And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:

⁸,,Şi ca smochinele cele rele cari, de rele ce sînt, nu se pot mînca, zice Domnul, aşa voi face să ajungă Zedechia, împăratul lui Iuda, căpeteniile lui, şi rămăşiţa Ierusalimului, cei ce au rămas în ţara aceasta şi cei ce locuiesc în ţara Egiptului.

⁹And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.

⁹Îi voi face de pomină, o pricină de nenorocire pentru toate împărăţiile pămîntului, de ocară, de batjocură, de rîs, şi de blestem, în toate locurile unde îi voi izgoni.

¹⁰And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

¹⁰Voi trimete în ei sabia, foametea şi ciuma, pînă vor pieri din ţara pe care le -o dădusem lor şi părinţilor lor.``
