¹The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;

¹Cuvîntul Domnului spus proorocului Ieremia asupra neamurilor:

²Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

²asupra Egiptului, împotriva oastei lui Faraon Neco, împăratul Egiptului, care era lîngă rîul Eufratului, la Carchemiş, şi care a fost bătută de Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, în al patrulea an al lui Ioiachim, fiul lui Iosia, împăratul lui Iuda:

³Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

³,,Pregătiţi scutul şi pavăza, şi mergeţi la luptă;

⁴Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.

⁴înhămaţi caii, şi încălecaţi, călăreţi; arătaţi-vă cu coifurile voastre, lustruiţi-vă suliţele, îmbrăcaţi-vă cu platoşa!...

⁵Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.

⁵Ce văd? Li -i frică, dau înapoi; vitejii lor sînt bătuţi; fug fără să se mai uite înapoi... Groaza se răspîndeşte în toate părţile-zice Domnul. -

⁶Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

⁶Cel mai iute nu scapă prin fugă, cel mai viteaz nu poate scăpa! La miază-noapte, pe malurile Eufratului, se clatină şi cad!

⁷Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

⁷Cine este acela care înaintează ca Nilul, şi ale cărui ape se rostogolesc ca rîurile?

⁸Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

⁸Este Egiptul. El se umflă ca Nilul, şi apele lui se rostogolesc ca rîurile. El zice: ,Mă voi sui, voi acoperi ţara, voi nimici cetăţile şi pe locuitorii lor.

⁹Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

⁹Suiţi-vă, cai! Năpustiţi-vă, cară! Să iasă vitejii, cei din Etiopia şi din Put, cari mînuiesc scutul, şi cei din Lud, cari mînuiesc şi întind arcul!

¹⁰For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

¹⁰Această zi este a Domnului, Dumnezeului oştirilor; este o zi de răzbunare, în care Se răzbună El pe vrăjmaşii Săi. Sabia mănîncă, se satură, şi se îmbată cu sîngele lor. Căci Domnul, Dumnezeul oştirilor, are o jertfă în ţara dela miază-noapte, pe malurile Eufratului.

¹¹Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

¹¹Suie-te în Galaad, şi adu leac alinător, fecioară, fiica Egiptului! Degeaba întrebuinţezi atîtea leacuri, căci nu este vindecare pentru tine!

¹²The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

¹²Neamurile aud ruşinea ta, şi este plin pămîntul de strigătele tale; căci războinicii se poticnesc unul de altul, cad cu toţii laolaltă.``

¹³The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

¹³Iată cuvîntul spus de Domnul către proorocul Ieremia, despre venirea lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, ca să lovească ţara Egiptului:

¹⁴Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

¹⁴,,Daţi de ştire în Egipt, daţi de veste la Migdol, şi vestiţi la Nof şi la Tahpanes! Ziceţi: ,Scoală-te, pregăteşte-te, căci sabia mănîncă în jurul tău!

¹⁵Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them.

¹⁵Pentruce ţi-au căzut vitejii tăi? Nu pot să ţină piept, căci Domnul îi răstoarnă!

¹⁶He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

¹⁶El face pe mulţi să se poticnească; cad unul peste altul, şi zic: ,Haidem să ne întoarcem la poporul nostru, în ţara noastră de naştere, departe de sabia nimicitorului!`

¹⁷They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

¹⁷Acolo strigă: ,Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, nu este decît un pustiu, căci a lăsat să treacă clipa potrivită.`

¹⁸As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

¹⁸,Pe viaţa Mea!` zice Împăratul, al cărui Nume este Domnul oştirilor: ,Ca Taborul printre munţi, cum înaintează Carmelul în mare, aşa va veni.

¹⁹O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

¹⁹Fă-ţi calabalîcul pentru robie, locuitoare, fiica Egiptului! Căci Noful va ajunge un pustiu, va fi pustiit şi nu va mai avea locuitori.

²⁰Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

²⁰Egiptul este o juncană foarte frumoasă... Nimicitorul vine dela miază noapte peste ea...

²¹Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

²¹Simbriaşii lui deasemenea sînt ca nişte viţei îngrăşaţi în mijlocul lui. Dar şi ei dau dosul, fug toţi fără să poată ţine pept. Căci vin peste ei ziua nenorocirii lor, ziua pedepsirii lor!

²²The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

²²I se aude glasul ca fîşiitul unui şarpe! Căci ei înaintează cu o oştire, şi vin cu topoare împotriva lui, ca nişte tăietori de lemne.``

²³They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

²³,,Tăiaţi -i pădurea, zice Domnul, măcar că este fără capăt! Căci sînt mai mulţi decît lăcustele, şi nu -i poţi număra!

²⁴The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

²⁴Fiica Egiptului este acoperită de ruşine, şi este dată în mînile poporului dela mează-noapte.

²⁵The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:

²⁵Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, zice: ,Iată, voi pedepsi pe Amon din No, pe Faraon şi Egiptul, pe dumnezeii şi împăraţii lui, pe Faraon şi pe cei ce se încred în el.

²⁶And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.

²⁶Îi voi da în mînile celor ce vor să -i omoare, în mînile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, şi în mînile slujitorilor lui. După aceea, însă, Egiptul va fi locuit ca în zilele de altă dată, zice Domnul.``

²⁷But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

²⁷,,Iar tu, robul Meu Iacov, nu te teme, şi nu te spăimînta, Israele! Căci te voi izbăvi din pămîntul depărtat, şi-ţi voi izbăvi sămînţa din ţara în care este roabă. Iacov se va întoarce iarăş, va locui liniştit şi fără teamă; şi nu -l va mai tulbura nimeni.``

²⁸Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

²⁸,,Nu te teme, robul Meu Iacov, zice Domnul; căci Eu sînt cu tine. Voi nimici toate neamurile printre cari te-am împrăştiat, dar pe tine nu te voi nimici; ci Te voi pedepsi cu dreptate, nu pot să te las nepedepsit.``
