¹Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

¹Luaţi seama să nu vă îndepliniţi neprihănirea voastră înaintea oamenilor, ca să fiţi văzuţi de ei; altminteri, nu veţi avea răsplată dela Tatăl vostru care este în ceruri.

²Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

²Tu, dar, cînd faci milostenie, nu suna cu trîmbiţa înaintea ta, cum fac făţarnicii, în sinagogi şi în uliţe, pentru ca să fie slăviţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun, că şi-au luat răsplata.

³But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

³Ci tu, cînd faci milostenie, să nu ştie stînga ta ce face dreapta,

⁴That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

⁴pentruca milostenia ta să fie făcută în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.

⁵And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

⁵Cînd vă rugaţi, să nu fiţi ca făţarnicii, cărora le place să se roage stînd în picioare în sinagogi şi la colţurile uliţelor, pentruca să fie văzuţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun, că şi-au luat răsplata.

⁶But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

⁶Ci tu, cînd te rogi, intră în odăiţa ta, încuie-ţi uşa, şi roagă-te Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.

⁷But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

⁷Cînd vă rugaţi, să nu bolborosiţi aceleaşi vorbe, ca păgînii, cărora li se pare că, dacă spun o mulţime de vorbe, vor fi ascultaţi.

⁸Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

⁸Să nu vă asemănaţi cu ei; căci Tatăl vostru ştie de ce aveţi trebuinţă, mai înainte ca să -I cereţi voi.

⁹After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

⁹Iată dar cum trebuie să vă rugaţi: ,,Tatăl nostru care eşti în ceruri! Sfinţească-se Numele Tău;

¹⁰Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

¹⁰vie împărăţia Ta; facă-se voia Ta, precum în cer şi pe pămînt.

¹¹Give us this day our daily bread.

¹¹Pînea noastră cea de toate zilele (Sau: pentru mîne.) dă-ne -o nouă astăzi;

¹²And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

¹²şi ne iartă nouă greşelile noastre, precum şi noi iertăm greşiţilor noştri (Greceşte: Lasă-ne datoriile noastre, cum şi noi am lăsat pe ale datornicilor noştri.);

¹³And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

¹³şi nu ne duce în ispită, ci izbăveşte-ne de cel rău. Căci a Ta este împărăţia şi puterea şi slava în veci. Amin!

¹⁴For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

¹⁴Dacă iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, şi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc vă va ierta greşelile voastre.

¹⁵But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹⁵Dar dacă nu iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, nici Tatăl vostru nu vă va ierta greşelile voastre.

¹⁶Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

¹⁶Cînd postiţi, să nu vă luaţi o înfăţişare posomorîtă, ca făţarnicii, cari îşi sluţesc feţele, ca să se arate oamenilor că postesc. Adevărat vă spun, că şi-au luat răsplata.

¹⁷But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

¹⁷Ci tu, cînd posteşti, unge-ţi capul, şi spală-ţi faţa,

¹⁸That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

¹⁸ca să te arăţi că posteşti nu oamenilor, ci Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.

¹⁹Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

¹⁹Nu vă strîngeţi comori pe pămînt, unde le mănîncă moliile şi rugina, şi unde le sapă şi le fură hoţii;

²⁰But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

²⁰ci strîngeţi-vă comori în cer, unde nu le mănîncă moliile şi rugina şi unde hoţii nu le sapă, nici nu le fură.

²¹For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

²¹Pentrucă unde este comoara voastră, acolo va fi şi inima voastră.

²²The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²²Ochiul este lumina trupului. Dacă ochiul tău este sănătos, tot trupul tău va fi plin de lumină;

²³But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

²³dar dacă ochiul tău este rău, tot trupul tău va fi plin de întunerec. Aşa că, dacă lumina care este în tine este întunerec, cît de mare trebuie să fie întunerecul acesta!

²⁴No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁴Nimeni nu poate sluji la doi stăpîni. Căci sau va urî pe unul şi va iubi pe celalt; sau va ţinea la unul, şi va nesocoti pe celalt: Nu puteţi sluji lui Dumnezeu şi lui Mamona.

²⁵Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

²⁵Deaceea vă spun: Nu vă îngrijoraţi de viaţa voastră, gîndindu-vă ce veţi mînca, sau ce veţi bea; nici de trupul vostru, gîndindu-vă cu ce vă veţi îmbrăca. Oare nu este viaţa mai mult decît hrana, şi trupul mai mult decît îmbrăcămintea?

²⁶Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

²⁶Uitaţi-vă la păsările cerului: ele nici nu samănă, nici nu seceră, şi nici nu strîng nimic în grînare; şi totuş Tatăl vostru cel ceresc le hrăneşte. Oare nu sînteţi voi cu mult mai de preţ decît ele?

²⁷Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

²⁷Şi apoi, cine dintre voi, chiar îngrijorîndu-se, poate să adauge măcar un cot la înălţimea lui?

²⁸And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

²⁸Şi de ce vă îngrijoraţi de îmbrăcăminte? Uitaţi-vă cu băgare de seamă cum cresc crinii de pe cîmp: ei nici nu torc, nici nu ţes;

²⁹And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

²⁹totuş vă spun că nici chiar Solomon, în toată slava lui, nu s'a îmbrăcat ca unul din ei.

³⁰Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

³⁰Aşa că, dacă astfel îmbracă Dumnezeu iarba de pe cîmp, care astăzi este, dar mîne va fi aruncată în cuptor, nu vă va îmbrăca El cu mult mai mult pe voi, puţin credincioşilor?

³¹Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

³¹Nu vă îngrijoraţi dar, zicînd: ,,Ce vom mînca?`` Sau: ,,Ce vom bea?`` Sau: ,,Cu ce ne vom îmbrăca?``

³²(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

³²Fiindcă toate aceste lucruri Neamurile le caută. Tatăl vostru cel ceresc ştie că aveţi trebuinţă de ele.

³³But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

³³Căutaţi mai întîi Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu şi neprihănirea Lui, şi toate aceste lucruri vi se vor da pe deasupra.

³⁴Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

³⁴Nu vă îngrijoraţi dar de ziua de mîne; căci ziua de mîne se va îngrijora de ea însăş. Ajunge zilei necazul ei.
