¹My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

¹(Către mai marele cîntăreţilor. De cîntat cum se cîntă: ,,Crinii``. Un psalm al fiilor lui Core. O cîntare. O cîntare de dragoste.) Cuvinte pline de farmec îmi clocotesc în inimă, şi zic: ,,Lucrarea mea de laudă este pentru Împăratul!`` Ca pana unui scriitor iscusit să-mi fie limba!

²Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

²Tu eşti cel mai frumos dintre oameni, harul este turnat pe buzele tale: de aceea te -a binecuvîntat Dumnezeu pe vecie.

³Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

³Războinic viteaz, încinge-ţi sabia, -podoaba şi slava,

⁴And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

⁴da, slava Ta! -Fii biruitor, suie-te în carul tău de luptă, apără adevărul, blîndeţa şi neprihănirea, şi dreapta ta să strălucească prin isprăvi minunate!

⁵Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

⁵Săgeţile tale sînt ascuţite: supt tine vor cădea popoare, şi săgeţile tale vor străpunge inima vrăjmaşilor împăratului.

⁶Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

⁶Scaunul Tău de domnie, Dumnezeule, este vecinic; toiagul de domnie al împărăţiei Tale este un toiag de dreptate.

⁷Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

⁷Tu iubeşti neprihănirea, şi urăşti răutatea. De aceea, Dumnezeule, Dumnezeul Tău Te -a uns cu un untdelemn de bucurie, mai pe sus decît pe tovarăşii Tăi de slujbă.

⁸All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

⁸Smirna, aloia şi casia îţi umplu de miros plăcut toate veşmintele; în casele tale împărăteşti de fildeş te înveselesc instrumentele cu coarde.

⁹Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

⁹Printre prea iubitele tale sînt fete de împăraţi; împărăteasa, mireasa ta, stă la dreapta ta, împodobită cu aur de Ofir.

¹⁰Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

¹⁰Ascultă, fiică, vezi şi pleacă-ţi urechea; uită pe poporul tău şi casa tatălui tău!

¹¹So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

¹¹Şi atunci împăratul îţi va pofti frumuseţa. Şi fiindcă este Domnul tău, adu -i închinăciunile tale.

¹²And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

¹²Şi fiica Tirului, şi cele mai bogate din popor vor umbla cu daruri ca să capete bunăvoinţa ta.

¹³The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

¹³Fata împăratului este plină de strălucire înlăuntrul casei împărăteşti; ea poartă o haină ţesută cu aur.

¹⁴She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

¹⁴Este adusă înaintea împăratului, îmbrăcată cu haine cusute la gherghef, şi urmată de fete, însoţitoarele ei, cari sînt aduse la tine.

¹⁵With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.

¹⁵Ele sînt duse în mijlocul bucuriei şi veseliei, şi intră în casa împăratului.

¹⁶Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

¹⁶Copiii tăi vor lua locul părinţilor tăi; îi vei pune domni în toată ţara.

¹⁷I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

¹⁷Din neam în neam îţi voi pomeni numele: de aceea în veci de veci te vor lăuda popoarele.
