¹And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹Vtedy povedal Eliáš Tišbänský, ktorý bol z cudzích obyvateľov Gileáda, Achabovi: Jako že žije Hospodin, Bôh Izraelov, pred ktorého tvárou stojím, tak isté je, že nebude po tieto roky rosy ani dažďa, len na moje slovo.

²And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

²A stalo sa slovo Hospodinovo k nemu povediac:

³Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

³Odídi odtiaľto a obráť sa na východ a skry sa pri potoku Karite, ktorý je naproti Jordánu.

⁴And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

⁴A bude tak, že z potoka budeš piť, a krkavcom som prikázal, aby ťa tam zaopatrovali potravou.

⁵So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

⁵A tak odišiel a učinil podľa slova Hospodinovho. A odíduc usadil sa pri potoku Karite, ktorý je naproti Jordánu.

⁶And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

⁶A krkavci mu donášali chlieb a mäso ráno a chlieb a mäso večer, a z potoka pil.

⁷And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

⁷A stalo sa po nejakom čase, že vyschnul potok, pretože nebolo dažďa v zemi.

⁸And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

⁸Vtedy sa stalo slovo Hospodinovo k nemu povediac:

⁹Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

⁹Vstaň, idi do Sarepty, ktorá patrí Sidonu, a budeš bývať tam. Hľa, prikázal som tam žene vdove, aby ťa zaopatrovala potravou.

¹⁰So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

¹⁰A tak vstal Eliáš a išiel do Sarepty. A keď prišiel k bráne mesta, hľa, bola tam nejaká žena vdova, ktorá sbierala drevo, a zavolajúc na ňu riekol: Dones mi, prosím, v nádobe trochu vody, aby som sa napil.

¹¹And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

¹¹A keď išla doniesť, zavolal na ňu a riekol: Dones mi, prosím, aj kúsok chleba vo svojej ruke.

¹²And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

¹²Na to riekla žena: Jako že žije Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, nemám ani podpopolníka, iba čo mám v galete za hrsť múky a trochu oleja v nádobe. A hľa, beriem dva kúsky dreva, aby som, keď prijdem, pripravila to sebe a svojmu synovi, aby sme to zjedli a potom zomreli.

¹³And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

¹³A Eliáš jej riekol: Neboj sa, idi, učiň, ako si riekla, len najprv sprav mne z toho nejaký malý podpopolník a dones mi sem von a sebe a svojmu synovi spravíš potom.

¹⁴For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

¹⁴Lebo takto hovorí Hospodin, Bôh Izraelov, že galeta múky sa nevytroví, ani nebude chýbať v nádobe oleja až do toho dňa, v ktorý dá Hospodin dážď na zem.

¹⁵And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

¹⁵A išla a učinila podľa slova Eliášovho. A tak jedla ona i on i jej dom za mnoho dní.

¹⁶And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

¹⁶Galeta múky sa neminula, ani nechýbalo z nádoby oleja, podľa slova Hospodinovho, ktoré hovoril skrze Eliáša.

¹⁷And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

¹⁷A stalo sa po týchto udalostiach, že onemocnel syn ženy, panej domu. A jeho nemoc bola veľmi ťažká, takže nezostalo v ňom ani dychu.

¹⁸And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

¹⁸A riekla Eliášovi: Čo ja mám s tebou, mužu Boží? Prišiel si ku mne nato, aby si mi pripomenul moju neprávosť a aby si usmrtil môjho syna?

¹⁹And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

¹⁹Ale on jej povedal: Daj mi svojho syna. A vezmúc ho z jej lona vyniesol ho do horného príbytku, v ktorom on býval, a položil ho na svoju posteľ.

²⁰And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

²⁰A volal k Hospodinovi a riekol: Hospodine, môj Bože, či aj na vdovu, u ktorej pohostínim, doložíš také zlo usmrtiac jej syna?

²¹And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

²¹A vystrel sa na dieťa tri razy a volal k Hospodinovi a riekol: Hospodine, môj Bože, prosím, nech sa navráti duša tohoto dieťaťa do jeho vnútornosti!

²²And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

²²A Hospodin vyslyšal hlas Eliášov, a duša dieťaťa sa navrátila do jeho vnútorností, a ožilo.

²³And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

²³A Eliáš vezmúc dieťa sniesol ho s horného príbytku dolu do domu a dal ho jeho matke. A Eliáš riekol: Pozri, tvoj syn žije.

²⁴And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

²⁴Na to povedala žena Eliášovi: Toto už teraz viem, že si ty muž Boží, a že slovo Hospodinovo je v tvojich ústach pravdou.
