¹For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:

¹Lebo sami viete, bratia, o našom príchode k vám, že nebol daromný;

²But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

²ale hoci sme aj predtým mnoho pretrpeli a boli pohanení, jako viete, vo Filipách, odhodlali sme sa smele vo svojom Bohu hovoriť vám evanjelium Božie v mnohom boji.

³For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

³Lebo naše napomínanie nepochádzalo z bludu ani z nečistoty ani sa nedialo v lesti.

⁴But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

⁴ale jako nás Bôh uznal za hodných byť poverenými evanjeliom, tak hovoríme, nie ako takí, ktorí sa chcú ľúbiť ľuďom, ale Bohu, ktorý zkúša naše srdcia.

⁵For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

⁵Lebo ani sme nikdy nepoužili lichotného slova, jako viete, ani zámienky lakomstva, Bôh je svedok;

⁶Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

⁶ani sme nehľadali od ľudí chvály, ani od vás ani od iných, hoci sme si mohli dodať vážnosti jako Kristovi apoštolovia.

⁷But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

⁷Ale sme boli láskaví medzi vami, sťa by kojaca matka nežne k sebe vinula a opatrovala svoje vlastné deti.

⁸So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

⁸A naplnení súc takou srdečnou láskou naproti vám hotoví sme boli dať vám nie len evanjelium Božie, ale aj svoje vlastné duše, pretože ste sa nám stali takí milí.

⁹For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

⁹Lebo veď sa pamätáte, bratia, na našu úsilnú prácu a námahu, lebo sme pracovali dňom i nocou, aby sme nikomu z vás neboli na ťarchu a tak sme vám hlásali evanjelium Božie.

¹⁰Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

¹⁰Vy ste svedkami i Bôh, ako sväte, spravedlive a bezúhonne sme sa vám veriacim chovali

¹¹As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

¹¹a že sme, jako viete, jedného každého z vás ako otec svoje vlastné deti napomínali a povzbudzovali

¹²That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

¹²a osvedčovali, aby ste chodili hodne Boha, ktorý vás povoláva do svojho kráľovstva a do svojej slávy.

¹³For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

¹³A preto aj my neprestajne ďakujeme Bohu, že prijmúc od nás slovo zvesti Božej neprijali ste slová ľudí, ale - jako je pravda - slovo Božie, ktoré aj mocne pôsobí vo vás veriacich.

¹⁴For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

¹⁴Lebo vy ste sa, bratia, stali nasledovníkmi cirkví Božích, ktoré sú v Judsku v Kristu Ježišovi, lebo aj vy ste pretrpeli to isté od svojich vlastných súkmeňovcov ako aj oni od Židov,

¹⁵Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

¹⁵ktorí aj Pána Ježiša zabili aj svojich vlastných prorokov aj nás prenasledujúc vyhnali a Bohu sa neľúbia a sú protivní všetkým ľuďom

¹⁶Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

¹⁶a bránia nám hovoriť pohanom, aby neboli spasení, aby vždycky doplnili svoje hriechy, ale náhle prišiel na nich hnev Boží ku koncu.

¹⁷But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

¹⁷Ale my, bratia, osirotejúc násilným odlúčením od vás, na krátky čas, tvárou, nie srdcom, tým viacej sme sa usilovali vidieť vašu tvár s velikou túžbou.

¹⁸Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

¹⁸Preto sme chceli prijsť k vám, ja Pavel, i raz i dva razy, ale nám prekazil satan.

¹⁹For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

¹⁹Lebo veď kto je našou nádejou alebo radosťou alebo korunou chlúby - či azda nie aj vy pred naším Pánom Ježišom Kristom, keď prijde?!

²⁰For ye are our glory and joy.

²⁰Lebo vy ste našou slávou a radosťou.
