¹So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

¹A tak ľahol Abiáš a ležal so svojimi otcami, a pochovali ho v meste Dávidovom. A kraľoval Aza, jeho syn, miesto neho. Za jeho dní mala zem pokoj desať rokov.

²And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

²Aza robil to, čo bolo dobré a spravedlivé v očiach Hospodina, jeho Boha.

³For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

³A odstránil oltáre cudzích bohov aj výšiny a roztrieskal modlárske stĺpy a posekal háje.

⁴And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

⁴A rozkázal Júdovi, aby hľadali Hospodina, Boha svojich otcov, a aby robili to, čo káže zákon a prikázanie.

⁵Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

⁵A odstránil výšiny a slnečné obrazy zo všetkých miest Júdových, a tak bolo kráľovstvo pred ním na pokoji.

⁶And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

⁶A vystavil ohradené mestá v Judsku, lebo zem bola na pokoji, ani nebolo proti nemu vojny v tých rokoch, lebo Hospodin mu dal odpočinutia.

⁷Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

⁷A riekol Júdovi, svojmu ľudu: Vystavme tie mestá a ohraďme ich múrami, opevnime vežami a opatrime bránami a závorami, kým ešte je zem pred nami v pokoji. Lebo sme hľadali Hospodina, svojho Boha, hľadali sme ho, a dal nám odpočinutia zo všetkých strán. A tak staväli, a darilo sa im.

⁸And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.

⁸A Aza mal vojsko takých, ktorí nosili veľký štít a ťažkú kopiju z pokolenia Júdovho tristo tisíc mužov, a z Benjamina takých, ktorí nosili malý štít a strieľali z luku, dvesto osemdesiat tisíc. To všetko boli udatní mužovia.

⁹And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

⁹A vyšiel proti nim Ethiop Zerach s vojskom, ktorého bolo tisíc tisícov, a vozov mal tristo. Prišiel až k mestu Maréša.

¹⁰Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

¹⁰A Aza vyšiel proti nemu, a zriadili sa do boja na doline Cefate pri Maréši.

¹¹And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.

¹¹Vtedy volal Aza k Hospodinovi, svojmu Bohu, a riekol: Hospodine, u teba nie je rozdielu, keď ty chceš pomôcť, či má niekto mnoho, alebo či nemá sily. Pomôž, nám, ó, Hospodine, náš Bože! Lebo na teba sa opierame a v tvojom mene sme prišli proti tomuto množstvu. Hospodine, ty si naším Bohom, nech nemá proti tebe moci mizerný človek!

¹²So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

¹²A Hospodin porazil Ethiopov pred Azom a pred Júdom, takže utekali Ethiopi.

¹³And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

¹³A Aza ich prenasledoval i ľud, ktorý bol s ním, až po Gerár. A padlo toľko Ethiopov, že sa nemohli zotaviť, pretože boli skrúšení pred Hospodinom a pred jeho vojskom. A odniesli koristi veľmi mnoho.

¹⁴And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

¹⁴A zbili všetky mestá v okolí Gerára, lebo strach Hospodinov prišiel na nich, a vyplienili všetky tie mestá, pretože bolo v nich mnoho plenu.

¹⁵They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁵A zbili aj stány pastierov dobytka a zajmúc množstvo oviec a veľblúdov navrátili sa do Jeruzalema.
