¹And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

¹Vtedy pozrel bystro Pavel na vysokú radu a povedal: Mužovia bratia, ja som celým svedomím dobrým obcoval pred Bohom až do tohoto dňa.

²And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

²Ale najvyšší kňaz Ananiáš rozkázal tým, ktorí stali pri ňom, aby ho bili po ústach.

³Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

³Vtedy mu povedal Pavel: Bude teba biť Bôh, obielená steno! A ty sedíš, aby si ma súdil podľa zákona, a proti zákonu ma velíš biť?

⁴And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

⁴A tí, ktorí tam stáli, povedali: Najvyššiemu kňazovi Božiemu zlorečíš?

⁵Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

⁵A Pavel riekol: Nevedel som, bratia, že je najvyšší kňaz, lebo je napísané: Kniežaťu svojho ľudu nebudeš zlorečiť!

⁶But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

⁶A zvediac Pavel, že jedna čiastka ich je sadúceov a druhá farizeov, kričal vo vysokej rade: Mužovia bratia! Ja som farizeus, syn farizeov. Pre nádej pre zmŕtvychvstanie mŕtvych som ja súdený!

⁷And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

⁷A keď to povedal, povstal rozbroj medzi farizei a medzi sadúcei, a rozdvojilo sa množstvo.

⁸For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

⁸Lebo sadúceovia hovoria, že nieto zmŕtvychvstania ani anjela ani ducha, a farizeovia vyznávajú oboje.

⁹And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

⁹A povstal veliký krik, a vstali niektorí učení Písma čiastky farizeov a preli sa a vraveli: Nenachádzame ničoho zlého na tomto človekovi. A jestli s ním hovoril duch alebo anjel? Neborme sa s Bohom!

¹⁰And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

¹⁰A keď povstal veliký rozbroj, a pretože sa obával tisícnik, aby neroztrhali Pavla, dal vojsku povel, aby sišlo a vytrhlo ho spomedzi nich a odviedlo do tábora.

¹¹And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

¹¹A nasledujúcej noci zastal k nemu Pán a povedal: Neboj sa, Pavle, lebo jako si pevne o mne svedčil v Jeruzaleme, tak musíš svedčiť aj v Ríme.

¹²And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

¹²A keď bol deň, srotili sa niektorí Židia, a zakliali sa, že vraj nebudú ani jesť ani piť, dokiaľ nezabijú Pavla.

¹³And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

¹³A bolo ich viac ako štyridsať, ktorí sa tak sprisahali.

¹⁴And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

¹⁴A prišli k najvyšším kňazom a starším a povedali: Veľmi sme sa zakliali, že neokúsime ničoho, dokiaľ nezabijeme Pavla.

¹⁵Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

¹⁵Tak teraz vy dajte vedieť tisícnikovi aj s vysokou radou, aby ho zajtra doviedol dolu k vám, ako čo by ste chceli dôkladnejšie zvedieť o ňom a o jeho veci; a my, prv ako sa priblíži, hotoví sme ho zabiť.

¹⁶And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

¹⁶Ale keď počul o úklade syn sestry Pavlovej, prišiel a vošiel do tábora a oznámil to Pavlovi.

¹⁷Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

¹⁷A Pavel si zavolal jedného zo stotníkov a povedal: Zaveď tohoto mládenca k tisícnikovi, lebo mu má niečo oznámiť.

¹⁸So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

¹⁸A tak ho pojal a zaviedol k tisícnikovi a povedal: Väzeň Pavel si ma zavolal a prosil, žeby som zaviedol tohoto mládenca k tebe, že má niečo s tebou hovoriť.

¹⁹Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

¹⁹A tisícnik si ho pojal za ruku a odíduc s ním okreme vypytoval sa: Čo je to, čo mi máš oznámiť?

²⁰And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

²⁰A on povedal: Židia sa sriekli, že ťa poprosia, žeby si zajtra doviedol Pavla dolu do vysokej rady, jako čo by sa chceli čosi dôkladnejšie vypytovať o ňom.

²¹But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

²¹Ale ty sa im nedaj nahovoriť, lebo mu úkladia z nich viac ako štyridsiati chlapi, ktorí sa zakliali, že nebudú ani jesť ani piť, dokiaľ ho nezabijú. A teraz sú hotoví a čakajú prisľúbenie od teba.

²²So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

²²Vtedy prepustil tisícnik mládenca a prikázal, aby nevravel nikomu, že mu to oznámil.

²³And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

²³Potom si zavolal ktorýchsi dvoch zo stotníkov a povedal: Prihotovte dvesto vojakov, aby išli až do Cezáree a sedemdesiat jazdcov a dvesto kopijníkov od tretej hodiny vnoci.

²⁴And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

²⁴A rozkázal priviesť i hovädá, aby vysadili Pavla a dopravili zdravého k vladárovi Felixovi.

²⁵And he wrote a letter after this manner:

²⁵A napísal list takéhoto obsahu:

²⁶Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

²⁶Klaudius Lyziáš vzkazuje výbornému vladárovi Felixovi pozdravenie.

²⁷This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

²⁷Tohoto človeka boli zajali Židia a mali ho zabiť; ale som prišiel s vojskom a vytrhnul som ho z ich moci dozvediac sa, že je Riman.

²⁸And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

²⁸A chcúc dokonale zvedieť príčinu, pre ktorú na neho žalujú, zaviedol som ho dolu pred ich vysokú radu

²⁹Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

²⁹a našiel som, že žalujú na neho o jakési otázky svojho zákona, ale že nemá nijakej žaloby proti sebe, prečo by bol hoden smrti alebo pút.

³⁰And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

³⁰A keď mi potom bolo povedané o úklade, ktorý strojili Židia človekovi, hneď som ho poslal k tebe rozkážuc i žalobníkom, aby to, čo majú proti nemu, rozpovedali u teba. Maj sa dobre!

³¹Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

³¹A tak vojaci, jako im bolo nariadené, pojali Pavla a odviedli cez noc do Antipatridy

³²On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

³²a druhého dňa nechajúc jazdcov, aby odišli s ním, navrátili sa do tábora.

³³Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

³³A keď tamtí vošli do Cezáree a odovzdali vladárovi list, postavili pred neho i Pavla.

³⁴And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

³⁴A keď prečítal vladár písmo, opýtal sa ho, z ktorej je provincie, a keď sa dozvedel že z Cilície,

³⁵I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.

³⁵povedal: Vypočujem ťa dôkladne, keď tu budú i tvoji žalobníci. A dal rozkaz, aby ho strážili v paláci Heródesovom.
