¹From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

¹Zkadiaľ pochádzajú vojny a odkiaľ boje medzi vami? Či nie ztadiaľto: z vašich rozkoší, ktoré vojujú vo vašich údoch?

²Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

²Žiadate a nemáte, vraždíte a závidíte a nemôžete dosiahnuť; boríte sa a vojujete, ale nemáte, pretože si neprosíte;

³Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

³prosíte a neberiete, pretože si zle prosíte, aby ste to spotrebovali vo svojich rozkošiach.

⁴Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

⁴Cudzoložníci a cudzoložnice, či vy neviete, že priateľstvo sveta je nepriateľstvom s Bohom? Tedy ktokoľvek by chcel byť priateľom sveta, stáva sa nepriateľom Božím.

⁵Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

⁵Alebo či sa nazdáte, že nadarmo hovorí Písmo: Až po závisť žiada ducha, ktorému spravil príbytok v nás?

⁶But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

⁶Ale dáva väčšiu milosť. Preto hovorí Písmo: Bôh sa pyšným protiví, ale pokorným dáva milosť.

⁷Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁷Poddajte sa tedy Bohu a sprotivte sa diablovi, a utečie od vás.

⁸Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

⁸Priblížte sa Bohu, a priblíži sa vám. Umyte ruky, hriešnici, a očistite srdcia, vy, ktorí ste dvojej mysle.

⁹Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁹Bedárte, žiaľte a plačte! Váš smiech nech sa obráti v žalosť a radosť v zronenosť!

¹⁰Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹⁰Ponížte sa pred tvárou Pánovou, a povýši vás.

¹¹Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

¹¹Nehovorte zlého druh na druha, bratia! Ten, kto hovorí zlé na brata alebo súdi svojho brata, hovorí proti zákonu a súdi zákon. A jestli súdiš zákon, nie si činiteľom zákona, ale jeho sudcom.

¹²There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

¹²Jeden je zákonodarca a sudca, ktorý môže spasiť i zatratiť. Ale ktože si ty, ktorý súdiš iného, blížneho?

¹³Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

¹³Nože teraz vy, ktorí hovoríte: Dnes alebo zajtra pojdeme do toho a toho mesta a pobudneme tam rok a budeme kupčiť a získame,

¹⁴Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

¹⁴vy, ktorí neviete, čo bude zajtra. Lebo veď aký je váš život? Lebo ste parou, ktorá sa na málo ukáže a potom mizne.

¹⁵For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

¹⁵Namiesto toho, čo by ste mali hovoriť: Keď bude Pán chcieť, a budeme žiť, aj učiníme toto alebo tamto.

¹⁶But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

¹⁶Ale teraz sa chválite vo svojej chlubnej pýche. Každá taká chvála je zlá.

¹⁷Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

¹⁷Kto tedy vie dobre činiť a nečiní, má hriech.
