¹But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

¹Ale synovia Izraelovi sa prehrešili dopustiac sa nevernosti pri zarieknutom. Lebo Achan, syn Karmiho, syna Zabdiho, syna Zéracha, z pokolenia Júdovho, vzal zo zarieknutého, a preto sa zapálil hnev Hospodinov na synov Izraelových.

²And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

²A Jozua vyslal mužov od Jericha do Haja, ktorý bol pri Bét-ávene od východu Bét-ela, a riekol im: Iďte hore a prešpehujte zem. A mužovia odišli hore a prešpehovali Haj.

³And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labor thither; for they are but few.

³A keď sa navrátili k Jozuovi, riekli mu: Nech nejde hore všetok ľud. Nech idú hore nejaké dva tisíce mužov alebo tri tisíce mužov, a zbijú Haj. Neunúvaj ta všetkého ľudu, lebo ich je málo.

⁴So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

⁴A tak odišlo ta hore z ľudu okolo tri tisíce mužov. Ale utiekli pred mužmi mesta Haja.

⁵And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

⁵A mužovia Haja zabili z nich tak asi tridsaťšesť mužov a honili ich pred brány až po Šebarím, a bili ich na svahu. Vtedy sa rozlialo srdce ľudu a obrátilo sa na vodu.

⁶And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.

⁶A Jozua roztrhol svoje rúcha a padol na svoju tvár na zem pred truhlou Hospodinovou a ležal tam až do večera, on i starší Izraelovi, a sypali prach na svoju hlavu.

⁷And Joshua said, Alas, O LORD God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

⁷A Jozua riekol: Ach, Pane Hospodine, prečo si len previedol tento ľud cez Jordán, aby si nás vydal do ruky Amoreja, aby si nás zahubil?! Ó, keby sme sa len boli spokojili a zostali za Jordánom!

⁸O LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!

⁸Ó, Pane, čo mám povedať teraz už, keď sa Izrael dal na útek pred svojimi nepriateľmi!

⁹For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

⁹Keď to počujú Kananeji a všetci obyvatelia zeme, obkľúčia nás a vytnú naše meno zo zeme. A čo ty učiníš svojmu veľkému menu?!

¹⁰And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

¹⁰A Hospodin riekol Jozuovi: Vstaň! Prečo si padol a ležíš tu na svojej tvári?

¹¹Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

¹¹Izrael zhrešil, aj prestúpili moju smluvu, ktorú som im prikázal zachovať, a k tomu aj vzali zo zarieknutého aj ukradli aj zatajili aj odložili medzi svoje náradie.

¹²Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

¹²Preto nebudú môcť synovia Izraelovi obstáť pred svojimi nepriateľmi, utekať budú pred svojimi nepriateľmi, lebo sa poškvrnili zarieknutou vecou; nebudem viacej s vami, ak nezahladíte toho, ktorý sa poškvrnil zarieknutou vecou, zo svojho stredu.

¹³Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

¹³Vstaň, posväť ľud a povieš im: Posväťte sa na zajtra, lebo takto hovorí Hospodin, Bôh Izraelov: Zarieknutá vec je v tvojom strede, Izraelu! Nebudeš môcť obstáť pred svojimi nepriateľmi, dokiaľ neodstránite zarieknutého zo svojho stredu.

¹⁴In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.

¹⁴Ráno pristúpite po svojich pokoleniach. A stane sa, že pokolenie, ktoré dochytí Hospodin, pristúpi po čeľadiach, a čeľaď, ktorú dochytí Hospodin, pristúpi po domoch, a konečne dom, ktorý dochytí Hospodin, pristúpi po osobách.

¹⁵And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

¹⁵A stane sa, že ten, kto bude dochytený pri zarieknutom, bude upálený ohňom, on i všetko, čo je jeho, pretože prestúpil smluvu Hospodinovu a pretože vykonal bláznovstvo v Izraelovi.

¹⁶So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

¹⁶Vtedy vstal Jozua skoro ráno a rozkázal, aby pristúpil Izrael po svojich pokoleniach. A dochytené bolo pokolenie Júdovo.

¹⁷And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:

¹⁷Potom rozkázal, aby pristúpila čeľaď Júdova, a dochytil čeľaď Zárechovu. A rozkázal, aby pristúpila čeľaď Zárechova po osobách, a dochytený bol Zabdi.

¹⁸And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

¹⁸A keď rozkázal, aby pristúpil jeho dom po osobách, dochytený bol Achan, syn Karmiho, syn Zabdiho, syn Zéracha, z pokolenia Júdovho.

¹⁹And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

¹⁹A Jozua riekol Achanovi: Môj synu, nože daj Hospodinovi, Bohu Izraelovmu, česť a vyznaj sa mu a nože mi oznám, čo si to urobil, netaj predo mnou.

²⁰And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

²⁰Vtedy odpovedal Achan Jozuovi a riekol: Je pravda, ja som zhrešil Hospodinovi, Bohu Izraelovmu, a urobil som tak a tak.

²¹When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

²¹Keď som videl medzi korisťou jeden krásny plášť sineársky, dvesto šeklov striebra a jeden jazyk zlata päťdesiat šeklov váhy, zažiadalo sa mi vecí, a vzal som ich, a hľa, ukryté sú v zemi prostred môjho stánu, a striebro je pod tým.

²²So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

²²Vtedy poslal Jozua poslov, a bežali do stánu, a hľa, bolo to ukryté v jeho stáne a striebro pod tým.

²³And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.

²³A vzali veci zprostred stánu a doniesli ich k Jozuovi a ku všetkým synom Izraelovým a položili ich pred Hospodinom.

²⁴And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

²⁴A Jozua vzal Achana, syna Zérachovho, i striebro i plášť i zlatý jazyk i jeho synov i jeho dcéry i jeho vola i jeho osla i jeho drobný dobytok i jeho stán i všetko, čo bolo jeho, a celý Izrael s ním a vyviedli ich hore do údolia Áchor.

²⁵And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

²⁵A Jozua povedala: Prečo si nás zarmútil? Nech teba zarmúti Hospodin tohoto dňa! A uhádzali ho, celý Izrael, kamením, spálili ich ohňom a zahádzali ich kamením.

²⁶And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

²⁶Potom nanosili na neho veľkú hromadu kamenia, ktorá je tam až do tohoto dňa. A tak sa odvrátil Hospodin od pále svojho hnevu. Preto volajú to miesto: Údolie Áchor, až do tohoto dňa.
