¹Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

¹A mužovia Izraelovi sa boli zaprisahali v Micpe a povedali: Nikto z nás nedá Benjaminovi svojej dcéry za ženu.

²And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

²Potom prišiel ľud do Bét-ela a sedeli tam až do večera pred Bohom a pozdvihnúc svoj hlas plakali veľkým plačom.

³And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

³A povedali: Prečo, ó, Hospodine, Bože Izraelov, stalo sa toto v Izraelovi, aby sa dnes postrádalo jedno pokolenie z Izraela?!

⁴And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

⁴A stalo sa nasledujúceho dňa, že ľudia vstali skoro ráno a postavili tam oltár a obetovali zápalné obeti aj pokojné obeti.

⁵And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

⁵A synovia Izraelovi povedali: Kto je zo všetkých pokolení Izraelových, kto by asi nebol prišiel hore do shromaždenia k Hospodinovi? Lebo sa boli veľmi zaprisahali vzhľadom na toho, kto by neprišiel hore k Hospodinovi do Micpy, povediac: Zomrie bez milosti.

⁶And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

⁶A synovia Izraelovi boli pohnutí ľútosťou k Benjaminovi svojmu bratovi, a povedali: Dnes bolo odťaté jedno pokolenie od Izraela!

⁷How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

⁷Čo by sme mohli vykonať pre tých, ktorí pozostali, aby sa im dostaly ženy, keď sme my prisahali na Hospodina, že im nedáme zo svojich dcér za ženy?

⁸And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

⁸Preto vraveli: Kto asi z pokolení Izraelových by nebol prišiel k Hospodinovi hore do Micpy? A hľa, ukázalo sa, že z Jabeš-gileáda nebol nikto prišiel do tábora, do shromaždenia.

⁹For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

⁹A keď prehliadli ľud, zistilo sa, že hľa, nebolo tam nikoho z obyvateľov Jabeš-gileáda.

¹⁰And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

¹⁰Vtedy ta vyslali, celá obec, dvanásť tisíc mužov z tých, ktorí boli najsilnejší, a prikázali im povediac: Iďte a pobite obyvateľov Jabeš-gileáda ostrím meča i ženy i deti.

¹¹And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

¹¹A toto je to, čo urobíte: Každého, kto je mužského pohlavia, i každú ženu, ktorá poznala ložu s mužským pohlavím zabijete jako zarieknutých na smrť.

¹²And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹²A našli z obyvateľov Jabeš-gileáda štyristo dievčat panien, ktoré neboly poznaly muža čo do lože s mužským pohlavím, a doviedli ich do tábora do Síla, ktoré je v zemi Kanaáne.

¹³And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

¹³A celá obec poslali posolstvo a hovorili synom Benjaminovým, ktorí boli v skale Rimmone, a vyhlásili im pokoj.

¹⁴And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

¹⁴A Benjamin sa navrátil toho času do svojho dedičstva, a dali im ženy, tie, ktoré zachovali živé zo žien Jabeš-gileáda, ale nepostačily im tak.

¹⁵And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁵A ľudu bolo ľúto Benjamina, pretože Hospodin učinil trhlinu v pokoleniach Izraelových.

¹⁶Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

¹⁶Vtedy povedali starší obce: Čo by sme mohli vykonať pre tých, ktorí ešte pozostali, aby sa im tiež dostaly ženy? Lebo sú vyhubené ženy z Benjamina.

¹⁷And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

¹⁷A povedali: Dedičstvo uniklých treba zase dať Benjaminovi, aby nebolo vyhladené pokolenie z Izraela.

¹⁸Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

¹⁸Ale my im nemôžeme dať ženy zo svojich dcér. Pretože boli prisahali synovia Izraelovi a povedali: Zlorečený, kto by dal ženu Benjaminovi.

¹⁹Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

¹⁹Nuž povedali: Hľa, slávnosť Hospodinova býva v Síle z roka na rok, v Síle, ktoré je od severnej strany Bét-ela, na východ slnka, na ceste, ktorá ide z Bét-ela hore do Sichema a od južnej strany Lebony.

²⁰Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

²⁰Prikázali tedy synom Benjaminovým a povedali: Iďte a úklaďte skryjúc sa vo viniciach.

²¹And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

²¹A pozorujte, a hľa, ak vyjdú dcéry Síla tancovať v kolotanci, vyjdete z viníc a uchvatnete si každý svoju ženu zo dcér Síla a odídete do zeme Benjaminovej.

²²And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favorable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

²²A bude, keď prijdú ich otcovia alebo ich bratia pravotiť sa s nami, povieme im: Zľutujte sa nám nad nimi, lebo sme nevzali každému z nich jeho ženy vo vojne. Lebo veď vy ste im ich nedali, aby ste sa boli teraz previnili.

²³And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

²³A synovia Benjaminovi urobili tak a odniesli si ženy podľa svojho počtu zpomedzi tancujúcich, ktoré uchytili, a odíduc navrátili sa k svojmu dedičstvu a vystaviac mestá bývali v nich.

²⁴And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

²⁴A synovia Izraelovi odišli toho času odtiaľ, každý do svojho pokolenia a ku svojej čeľadi a tedy vyšli odtiaľ a odišli každý do svojho dedičstva.

²⁵In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

²⁵V tých dňoch nebolo kráľa v Izraelovi; každý robil to, čo bolo správne v jeho očiach.
