¹And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

¹A stalo sa, keď dokončil Ježiš dávať svojim učeníkom rozkazy, že odišiel odtiaľ, aby učil a kázal v ich mestách.

²Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

²A Ján, keď počul v žalári o skutkoch Kristových, poslal dvoch svojich učeníkov

³And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

³a riekol mu: Či si ty ten, ktorý má prijsť, a či máme čakať iného?

⁴Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

⁴A Ježiš odpovedal a riekol im: Iďte a zvestujte Jánovi, čo čujete a vidíte:

⁵The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

⁵slepí vidia, chromí chodia, malomocní sa čistia, hluchí čujú, mŕtvi vstávajú z mŕtvych, a chudobným sa zvestuje evanjelium,

⁶And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

⁶a blahoslavený je ten, kto by sa nepohoršil na mne.

⁷And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

⁷A keď oni odišli, začal Ježiš hovoriť zástupom o Jánovi: Čo ste vyšli na púšť vidieť? Trstinu, ktorá sa kláti vetrom?

⁸But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

⁸Alebo čo ste vyšli vidieť? Človeka odiateho mäkkým rúchom? Veď hľa, tí, ktorí nosia mäkké rúcho, sú v kráľovských domoch.

⁹But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

⁹Alebo načo ste vyšli? Vidieť proroka? Ba, hovorím vám, že i viac ako proroka.

¹⁰For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

¹⁰Lebo toto je ten, o ktorom je napísané: Hľa, ja posielam svojho anjela pred tvojou tvárou, ktorý pripraví tvoju cestu pred tebou.

¹¹Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

¹¹Ameň vám hovorím, že nepovstal medzi splodenými zo žien väčší nad Jána Krstiteľa; ale ten, kto je menší v nebeskom kráľovstve, je väčší ako on.

¹²And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

¹²A odo dní Jána Krstiteľa až doteraz trpí nebeské kráľovstvo násilie, a tí, ktorí činia násilie, uchvacujú ho.

¹³For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

¹³Lebo všetci proroci aj zákon prorokovali až po Jána.

¹⁴And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

¹⁴A chcete-li prijať, on je Eliáš, ktorý mal prijsť.

¹⁵He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁵Kto má uši, aby počul, nech počuje!

¹⁶But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

¹⁶No, komu mám pripodobniť toto pokolenie? Podobné je deťom, ktoré sedia na námestiach a privolávajú svojim kamarádom a hovoria:

¹⁷And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

¹⁷Pískali sme vám, a netancovali ste; žalostne, jako nad mŕtvym sme nariekali, a neplakali ste.

¹⁸For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

¹⁸Lebo prišiel Ján nejediac ani nepijúc, a hovoria: Má démona;

¹⁹The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

¹⁹prišiel Syn človeka jediac a pijúc, a hovoria: Hľa, človek žráč a pijan vína, priateľ publikánov a hriešnikov. A je ospravedlnená múdrosť od svojich detí.

²⁰Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

²⁰Vtedy začal karhať mestá, v ktorých sa udialo najviac jeho divov, že neučinily pokánia:

²¹Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

²¹Beda ti, Korazim! Beda ti, Betsaido! Lebo keby sa v Týre a v Sidone boly udialy divy, ktoré sa udialy vo vás, dávno by vo vrecovine a v popole boly činily pokánie.

²²But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

²²No, hovorím vám, že Týru a Sidonu bude znesiteľnejšie v deň súdu ako vám.

²³And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

²³A ty, Kafarnaum, ktoré si vyvýšené až do neba, budeš svrhnuté až do pekla; lebo keby sa v Sodome boly dialy divy, ktoré sa dialy v tebe, bola by zostala až do dnešného dňa.

²⁴But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

²⁴Avšak hovorím vám, že zemi Sodomänov bude znesiteľnejšie v deň súdu ako tebe.

²⁵At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

²⁵Toho času odpovedal Ježiš a riekol: Ďakujem Ti, Otče, Pane neba i zeme, že si skryl tieto veci pred múdrymi a rozumnými a zjavil si ich nemluvňatám,

²⁶Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

²⁶áno, Otče, lebo tak sa ti to ľúbilo.

²⁷All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

²⁷Všetko mi je vydané od môjho Otca, a nikto nezná Syna, iba Otec, ani Otca nezná nikto, iba Syn, a ten, komu by Syn chcel zjaviť.

²⁸Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

²⁸Poďte ku mne všetci, ktorí pracujete a ste obtiažení, a ja vám dám odpočinutie.

²⁹Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

²⁹Vezmite moje jarmo na seba a učte sa odo mňa, lebo som tichý a pokorný srdcom, a najdete odpočinutie svojim dušiam;

³⁰For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

³⁰lebo moje jarmo je užitočné a moje bremeno ľahké.
