¹Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.

¹In Hiram, kralj v Tiru, je poslal poslance k Davidu in cedrovega lesa in zidarje in tesarje, da mu zgrade hišo.

²And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.

²In David je zaznal, da ga je GOSPOD potrdil za kralja nad Izraelom, kajti kraljestvo njegovo je bilo visoko povišano zaradi ljudstva njegovega Izraela.

³And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.

³In David si je vzel še več žen v Jeruzalemu; in David je rodil še več sinov in hčer.

⁴Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

⁴In ta so imena otrok, ki jih je imel v Jeruzalemu: Samua, Sobab, Natan in Salomon,

⁵And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

⁵Ibhar, Elisua, Elpelet,

⁶And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

⁶Noga, Nefeg, Jafija,

⁷And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

⁷Elisama, Beeliada in Elifelet.

⁸And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.

⁸Ko so pa Filistejci slišali, da je bil David pomaziljen za kralja nad vsem Izraelom, pridejo vsi Filistejci gori iskat Davida. In ko je David zvedel za to, jim je šel naproti.

⁹And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

⁹Filistejci so pa prišli in se razgrnili po dolini Refaimov.

¹⁰And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

¹⁰In David je vprašal Boga, rekoč: Ali naj grem gori zoper Filistejce? In mi jih li hočeš dati v roko? In GOSPOD mu veli: Pojdi gori, kajti dam ti jih v roko!

¹¹So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

¹¹Oni pa so prišli v Baalperazim, in David jih porazi ondi. In David reče: GOSPOD je raztrgal sovražnike moje po moji roki, kakor vode pretrgajo jez. Zato so dali ime tistemu kraju Baalperazim.

¹²And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

¹²Popustili so pa svoje bogove tamkaj. In David ukaže, in sežgali so jih v ognju.

¹³And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.

¹³In Filistejci so zopet pridrli in se razgrnili po dolini.

¹⁴Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

¹⁴David pa zopet vpraša Boga, in Bog mu reče: Ne hodi gori za njimi, kreni od njih in pojdi nadnje od strani murvovih dreves.

¹⁵And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

¹⁵In ko začuješ šumenje iz vrhov murvovih dreves, kakor da prihaja vojska, tedaj pojdi ven v boj: zakaj Bog gre pred teboj, da udari vojsko Filistejcev.

¹⁶David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

¹⁶In David je storil, kakor mu je bil zapovedal Bog, in pobijali so vojsko Filistejcev od Gibeona do Gezerja.In Davidovo ime se je razglasilo po vseh deželah, in GOSPOD je spravil v strah pred njim vse narode

¹⁷And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
