¹And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

¹In Satan se je vzdignil zoper Izraela in izpodbodel Davida, da naj sešteje Izraela.

²And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

²In David veli Joabu in poglavarjem ljudstva: Pojdite, seštejte Izraelce od Bersebe do Dana, in prinesite mi poročilo, da vem njih število!

³And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

³In Joab reče: GOSPOD pridaj k ljudstvu svojemu stokrat toliko, kolikor jih je! Ali, GOSPOD moj, kralj, niso li vsi GOSPODA mojega hlapci? Čemu zahteva to gospod moj? Zakaj se naj to šteje v pregreho Izraelu?

⁴Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

⁴Vendar pa je obveljala beseda kraljeva zoper Joaba. Zatorej odide Joab in prehodi vse Izraelovo in se vrne v Jeruzalem.

⁵And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

⁵In dal je Joab število preštetega ljudstva Davidu; in bilo je vsega Izraela tisočkrat tisoč in sto tisoč mož, ki so izdirali meč; iz Jude pa štiristo in sedemdeset tisoč mož, ki so izdirali meč.

⁶But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

⁷And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.

⁷To povelje pa se je hudo videlo v očeh Božjih, in udaril je Izraela.

⁸And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

⁸In David reče Bogu: Hudo sem grešil, da sem storil to; a sedaj, prosim, odpravi krivico hlapca svojega, kajti ravnal sem zelo nespametno!

⁹And the LORD spake unto Gad, David's seer, saying,

⁹In GOSPOD je govoril Gadu, Davidovemu vidcu, rekoč:

¹⁰Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

¹⁰Pojdi in govóri Davidu in reci: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Troje ti ponujam, izberi si eno, da naj ti storim.

¹¹So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee

¹¹Pride torej Gad k Davidu in mu reče: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Izberi si:

¹²Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

¹²bodisi tri leta lakote, ali da tri mesece bežiš pred nasprotniki svojimi, ko te dohiteva meč sovražnikov tvojih, ali pa tri dni meč GOSPODOV in kugo v deželi in angela GOSPODOVEGA, ki bo pogubljal po vseh mejah Izraelovih. Sedaj pa premisli, kakšen odgovor naj dam njemu, ki me je poslal.

¹³And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

¹³In David reče Gadu: V stiski sem veliki! Rajši padem, prosim, v roko GOSPODOVO, kajti veliko je usmiljenje njegovo; le nikar naj ne padem v roko človeško!

¹⁴So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

¹⁴Poslal je torej GOSPOD kugo nad Izraela, in pomrlo je iz Izraela sedemdeset tisoč mož.

¹⁵And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

¹⁵In Bog pošlje angela proti Jeruzalemu, da ga pogubi; in ko je pogubljal, je pogledal GOSPOD in žal mu je bilo hudega; in veli angelu, ki je pokončeval: Dosti je, odtegni zdaj roko svojo! In angel GOSPODOV je stal pri gumnu Ornana Jebusejca.

¹⁶And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

¹⁶David pa povzdigne oči in vidi angela GOSPODOVEGA stoječega med zemljo in nebom in v roki njegovi potegnjen meč, naperjen proti Jeruzalemu. Tedaj padejo David in starejšine, oblečeni v raševino, na obraze svoje.

¹⁷And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

¹⁷In David reče Bogu: Nisem li jaz velel, naj se sešteje ljudstvo? Jaz sem tisti, ki sem grešil in zelo krivično ravnal, te ovce pa, kaj so storili? Roka tvoja, prosim, o GOSPOD, Bog moj, bodi zoper mene in zoper očeta mojega hišo, nikar zoper tvoje ljudstvo, da ga tepe!

¹⁸Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

¹⁸Tedaj zapove angel GOSPODOV Gadu, da veli Davidu, naj gre gori in zgradi oltar GOSPODU na gumnu Ornana Jebusejca.

¹⁹And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

¹⁹In David je šel gori po besedi Gadovi, ki jo je govoril v imenu GOSPODOVEM.

²⁰And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

²⁰Ornan pa se ozre in zagleda angela, in štirje sinovi njegovi, ki so bili pri njem, se skrijejo; Ornan je namreč mlatil pšenico.

²¹And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

²¹In ko David pride do Ornana, se ta ozre in zagleda Davida in gre z gumna ter se Davidu prikloni z obrazom do tal.

²²Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.

²²Tedaj reče David Ornanu: Prepústi mi kraj tega gumna, da na njem zgradim oltar GOSPODU, prepústi mi ga za polno ceno, da bi nehala kuga med ljudstvom.

²³And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

²³Ornan pa reče Davidu: Vzemi si ga, in stori naj ž njim gospod moj, kralj, kar se mu dobro vidi; glej, dam ti voli v žgalno daritev in mlatilnice za drva in pšenico v jedilno daritev: vse dam rad.

²⁴And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

²⁴A kralj David reče Ornanu: Nikar, ampak res hočem to kupiti od tebe za polno ceno, ker ne vzamem, kar je tvojega, za GOSPODA, in ne bom daroval žgalne daritve brez stroškov.

²⁵So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

²⁵Dal je torej David Ornanu za tisti kraj šeststo zlatih seklov po teži.

²⁶And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

²⁶In David je zgradil ondi oltar GOSPODU in je daroval žgalne in mirovne daritve in klical GOSPODA; on pa mu je odgovoril iz nebes po ognju na oltarju žgalnih daritev.

²⁷And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

²⁷In GOSPOD ukaže angelu, in angel vtakne meč zopet v nožnico svojo.

²⁸At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

²⁸V tistem času, ko je David videl, da mu je GOSPOD odgovoril na gumnu Ornana Jebusejca, je daroval ondi.

²⁹For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

²⁹Kajti šator GOSPODOV, ki ga je naredil Mojzes v puščavi, in oltar žgalnih daritev, sta bila tisti čas na višavi v Gibeonu.A David ni mogel predenj tja hoditi, da bi iskal Boga, tako je bil prestrašen zaradi meča angela GOSPODOVEGA.

³⁰But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
