¹Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

¹Pavel, poklican apostol Jezusa Kristusa po volji Božji, in Sosten, brat,

²Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

²cerkvi Božji, ki je v Korintu, posvečenim v Kristusu Jezusu, poklicanim svetim, z vsemi, ki kličejo ime Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa na vsakem mestu, svojem in našem:

³Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

³Milost vam in mir od Boga Očeta našega in Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa.

⁴I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

⁴Zahvaljujem Boga svojega vsekdar za vas, za milost Božjo, dano vam v Kristusu Jezusu,

⁵That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

⁵da ste v vsem obogateli v njem, v vsaki besedi in v vsakem spoznanju,

⁶Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

⁶kakor se je pričevanje Kristusovo utrdilo med vami,

⁷So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

⁷tako da ne primanjkuje nobenega daru milosti vam, ki pričakujete razodetja Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa;

⁸Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸ki vas tudi utrdi do konca, da bodete brez graje v dan Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa.

⁹God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁹Zvest je Bog, po katerem ste poklicani v deleštvo Sinu njegovega, Jezusa Kristusa, Gospoda našega.

¹⁰Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

¹⁰Prosim vas pa, bratje, v imenu Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa, da vsi eno govorite in ne bodi razdorov med vami, temuč bodite popolnoma složni v enem umu in eni misli.

¹¹For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

¹¹Povedali so mi namreč za vas, bratje moji, Hlojini domači, da so prepiri med vami.

¹²Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

¹²Menim pa to, da vsak vas govori: Jaz sem Pavlov, jaz pa Apolov, jaz pa Kefov, a jaz Kristusov.

¹³Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

¹³Je li Kristus razdeljen? je li bil Pavel na križ razpet za vas, ali ste bili v ime Pavlovo krščeni?

¹⁴I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

¹⁴Hvalim Boga, da nisem nikogar vas krstil razen Krispa in Gaja,

¹⁵Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

¹⁵da kdo ne poreče, da ste bili krščeni v moje ime.

¹⁶And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

¹⁶Krstil sem pa tudi Štefanovo družino; sicer ne vem, če sem še koga krstil.

¹⁷For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

¹⁷Zakaj Kristus me ni poslal krščevat, temuč oznanjevat evangelij, ne v modrosti besede, da se ne uniči moč križa Kristusovega.

¹⁸For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

¹⁸Kajti beseda o križu je tistim, ki gredo v pogubo, neumnost, nam pa, ki se zveličujemo, je moč Božja.

¹⁹For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

¹⁹Kajti pisano je: „Pogubim modrost modrih in razumnost razumnih zavržem“.

²⁰Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

²⁰Kje je modrijan? Kje pismouk? Kje preiskovalec tega sveta? Ni li Bog v neumnost preobrnil modrosti tega sveta?

²¹For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

²¹Ker namreč svet v modrosti Božji ni spoznal Boga po svoji modrosti, je sklenil Bog po neumnosti oznanjevanja zveličati te, kateri verujejo.

²²For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

²²Kajti i Judje zahtevajo znamenj, i Grki iščejo modrosti.

²³But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

²³Mi pa oznanjujemo Kristusa na križ razpetega, Judom resda pohujšanje, poganom pa neumnost,

²⁴But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

²⁴ali tistim, ki so poklicani, i Judom i Grkom, Kristusa, Božjo moč in Božjo modrost.

²⁵Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁵Ker ‚neumnost‘ Božja je modrejša od ljudi in ‚slabost‘ Božja močnejša od ljudi.

²⁶For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

²⁶Kajti glejte poklic svoj, bratje, da ni poklicanih mnogo modrih po mesu, ne mnogo mogočnih, ne mnogo imenitnih;

²⁷But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

²⁷marveč kar je neumnega na tem svetu, to si je Bog izbral, da osramoti modre, in kar je slabotnega na tem svetu, to si je Bog izbral, da osramoti, kar je mogočnega;

²⁸And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

²⁸in kar je neimenitno na tem svetu in zaničevano, si je izbral Bog in to, česar ni, da uniči to, kar je:

²⁹That no flesh should glory in his presence.

²⁹da se ne hvali nobeno meso pred obličjem Božjim.

³⁰But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

³⁰Iz njega pa ste vi v Kristusu Jezusu, ki nam je postal modrost od Boga, pa tudi pravičnost in posvečenje in odrešenje,da, kakor je pisano, „kdor se hvali, v Gospodu naj se hvali“.

³¹That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
