¹And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

¹In Hiram, kralj tirski, je poslal služabnike svoje k Salomonu, zakaj slišal je bil, da so ga pomazilili za kralja namesto očeta njegovega; Hiram je namreč ljubil Davida vse dni.

²And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

²In Salomon pošlje k Hiramu sporočit:

³Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

³Ti veš, da ni mogel David, oče moj, zgraditi hiše imenu GOSPODA, Boga svojega, spričo sosedov, ki so ga zapletali v vojne, dokler jih ni položil GOSPOD pod stopala nog njegovih.

⁴But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

⁴Sedaj pa mi je dal GOSPOD, Bog moj, mir vseokrog; nobenega ni nasprotnika, ne hude prigodbe.

⁵And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

⁵Glej torej, zgraditi nameravam hišo imenu GOSPODA, Boga svojega, kakor je GOSPOD govoril Davidu, očetu mojemu, rekoč: Sin tvoj, ki ga posadim na prestol tvoj na tvoje mesto, sezida hišo imenu mojemu.

⁶Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

⁶Zdaj torej ukaži, da mi nasekajo ceder z Libanona, in hlapci moji bodo s hlapci tvojimi, tudi plačilo ti dam za hlapce tvoje, kakršnokoli boš zahteval; saj veš, da ga ni med nami, ki bi znal sekati les kakor Sidonci.

⁷And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

⁷In ko je slišal Hiram besede Salomonove, se silno razveseli ter reče: Hvaljen bodi danes GOSPOD, ki je dal Davidu modrega sina nad tem velikim ljudstvom!

⁸And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

⁸In Hiram pošlje Salomonu sporočit: Slišal sem, kar si mi sporočil. Storil bom vso voljo tvojo glede cedrovega in cipresovega lesa.

⁹My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

⁹Hlapci moji ga bodo spravljali z Libanona doli k morju, in zložim ga v splave, da pojde po morju do mesta, ki mi ga določiš; in tam ga dam razvezati, in ti si ga odpraviš. Ti pa izpolniš voljo mojo, da boš dajal živeža moji družini.

¹⁰So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

¹⁰Tako je dal Hiram Salomonu cedrovega in cipresovega lesa po vsej volji njegovi.

¹¹And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

¹¹Salomon pa je dajal Hiramu po dvajset tisoč meric pšenice v živež njegovi družini in po dvajset meric čistega olja; toliko je dal Salomon Hiramu vsako leto.

¹²And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

¹²In GOSPOD je dal Salomonu modrost, kakor mu je obljubil; in bil je mir med Hiramom in Salomonom, in oba sta sklenila zavezo.

¹³And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

¹³In kralj Salomon je vzel davek od vsega Izraela, in davek je bil trideset tisoč mož.

¹⁴And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

¹⁴In pošiljal jih je na Libanon, po deset tisoč vsak mesec, menoma: mesec dni so bili na Libanonu in dva meseca doma. Adoniram pa je bil nad temi robotniki.

¹⁵And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

¹⁵In Salomon jih je imel sedemdeset tisoč, ki so nosili bremena, in osemdeset tisoč njih, ki so sekali v gorah,

¹⁶Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

¹⁶razen višjih uradnikov, ki so nadzorovali delo, tri tisoč in tristo; ti so gospodovali ljudstvu, ki je opravljalo delo.

¹⁷And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

¹⁷In kralj je ukazal, in pripravili so velikih in dragih kamenov, obsekanih kamenov za podstavo hiši.In obdelovali so jih Salomonovi stavbarji in Hiramovi stavbarji in Gebaljani; in pripravljali so les in kamenje za stavbo hiše.

¹⁸And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
