¹And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

¹Samuel pa reče vsemu ljudstvu: Glej, poslušal sem glas vaš v vsem, kar ste mi govorili, in postavil sem vam kralja.

²And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

²Sedaj pa, glejte, kralj vaš vam hodi na čelu; a jaz sem se postaral in osivel, in glejte, sinova moja sta pri vas; in jaz sem pred vami živel od svoje mladosti do današnjega dne.

³Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

³Glejte, tu sem! Izpričajte zoper mene pred GOSPODOM in pred maziljencem njegovim: komu sem vzel vola? ali komu sem vzel osla? ali sem komu krivico delal ali silo? iz čigave roke sem vzel darilo in si dal zagrniti oči zaradi njega? Vse vam hočem povrniti.

⁴And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

⁴Odgovore: Nisi nam storil krivice, ne sile, tudi nisi iz nikogar roke kaj vzel.

⁵And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

⁵On reče: GOSPOD je priča zoper vas in njegov maziljenec je priča današnji dan, da niste ničesar našli v roki moji. In reko: Priča je!

⁶And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

⁶In Samuel reče ljudstvu: GOSPOD je priča, ki je postavil Mojzesa in Arona in ki je peljal očete vaše iz Egiptovske dežele.

⁷Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

⁷Sedaj pa postojte tu; da se z vami pravdam pred GOSPODOM za vsa pravična dela GOSPODOVA, ki jih je storil vam in očetom vašim.

⁸When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

⁸Ko je Jakob prišel v Egipt, so vaši očetje vpili h GOSPODU, in GOSPOD je poslal Mojzesa in Arona; ta sta odvedla očete vaše iz Egipta, in dal jim je prebivališče v tem kraju.

⁹And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

⁹Ali ko so pozabili GOSPODA, Boga svojega, jih je prodal v roko Siseru, poveljniku vojske v Hazorju, in v roko Filistejcem in v roko kralju Moabcev, in bojevali so se zoper nje.

¹⁰And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

¹⁰Oni pa so vpili h GOSPODU in dejali: Grešili smo, ker smo zapustili GOSPODA in smo služili Baalom in Astarotam; sedaj pa nas otmi iz sovražnikov naših roke, in bomo ti služili.

¹¹And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.

¹¹In GOSPOD je poslal Jerub-baala in Bedana in Jefta in Samuela in vas je otel iz roke sovražnikov vaših kroginkrog, in prebivali ste brez skrbi.

¹²And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

¹²Ko pa ste videli, da je pridrl nad vas Nahas, kralj Amonovih sinov, ste mi rekli: Nikar, ampak kralj naj gospoduje nad nami, ko vam je vendar bil kralj GOSPOD, vaš Bog.

¹³Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.

¹³Sedaj pa glejte kralja, ki ste si ga izvolili in si ga izprosili; kajti, glejte, GOSPOD je postavil kralja nad vami.

¹⁴If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:

¹⁴Ako se boste bali GOSPODA in njemu služili in glas njegov poslušali in se ne boste upirali povelju GOSPODOVEMU, a boste hodili vi in kralj vaš za GOSPODOM, Bogom svojim, blagor vam.

¹⁵But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.

¹⁵Ako pa ne boste poslušali glasu GOSPODOVEGA, temuč se boste upirali povelju GOSPODOVEMU, bode roka GOSPODOVA zoper vas, kakor je bila zoper očete vaše.

¹⁶Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.

¹⁶Sedaj pa postojte tu in glejte to reč veliko, ki jo stori GOSPOD pred vašimi očmi.

¹⁷Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.

¹⁷Ni li zdaj pšenična žetev? Jaz pa hočem klicati GOSPODA, naj spusti grmenje in dež, da spoznate in vidite, kolikšno je zlo, ki ste ga storili pred očmi GOSPODOVIMI, proseč si kralja.

¹⁸So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

¹⁸Nato kliče Samuel h GOSPODU, in GOSPOD pošlje grmenje in dež tisti dan; in vse ljudstvo se je silno balo GOSPODA in Samuela.

¹⁹And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

¹⁹In vse ljudstvo reče Samuelu: Prosi GOSPODA, Boga svojega, za nas hlapce svoje, da ne umrjemo; zakaj vsem grehom svojim smo pridejali še to zlo, da smo si prosili kralja.

²⁰And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

²⁰Samuel pa reče ljudstvu: Ne bojte se! Res ste vse to zlo storili, ali vendar ne odstopite, da ne bi šli za GOSPODOM, ampak služite GOSPODU iz vsega srca.

²¹And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

²¹Ne odstopite, da bi šli za ničevimi maliki, kajti ne morejo vam koristiti, ne vas rešiti, zakaj ničevosti so.

²²For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

²²Zakaj GOSPOD ne zapusti ljudstva svojega zaradi velikega imena svojega, ker je blagovolil GOSPOD vas storiti sebi za ljudstvo.

²³Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

²³Tudi jaz – Bog ne daj, da bi se tako pregrešil GOSPODU, da neham moliti za vas, temuč učiti vas hočem dobro in pravo pot.

²⁴Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

²⁴Bojte se le GOSPODA in v resnici mu služite iz vsega srca svojega, kajti vidite, kakšne velike reči je storil za vas.Ako pa boste vendarle hudo delali, poginete vi in kralj vaš.

²⁵But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
