¹And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

¹In Ana je molila in rekla: Srce moje se raduje v GOSPODU, rog moj je povišan po GOSPODU; usta moja so se široko odprla zoper sovražnike moje, kajti veselim se zveličanja tvojega.

²There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

²Nihče ni tako svet kakor GOSPOD, kajti razen tebe ni nobenega; in ni nobene Skale, kakor je naš Bog.

³Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

³Ne množite govorov o visokih rečeh, predrznost naj ne pride iz vaših ust: kajti GOSPOD je Bog mogočni, ki vse pozna, in misli človeške na tehtnico deva on.

⁴The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

⁴Močnih lok je zlomljen, a slabotni so opasani z močjo.

⁵They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

⁵Kateri so bili siti, so v službo stopili za kruh, in kateri so lakoto trpeli, niso več lačni; in nerodovitna je rodila sedmero, in katera je veliko imela otrok, je onemogla.

⁶The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

⁶GOSPOD mori in oživlja, pelje v kraj smrti [Hebr. šeol.] in zopet nazaj.

⁷The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

⁷GOSPOD spravi v uboštvo in obogati, on ponižuje, pa tudi povišuje.

⁸He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

⁸On povišuje ubožca iz prahu, siromaka vzdiguje iz blata, da ga posadi med plemenitnike in mu da podedovati slave prestol; kajti GOSPODOVI so stebri zemlje, in on je nanje postavil svet.

⁹He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

⁹On bo varoval svojih svetnikov noge, ali brezbožniki umolknejo v temi; zakaj po svoji moči človek ne pride kvišku.

¹⁰The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

¹⁰Zatrti bodo, kateri nasprotujejo GOSPODU, zoper nje bo on grmel v nebesih. GOSPOD bo sodil kraje zemlje, in da moč kralju svojemu in poviša rog maziljenca svojega.

¹¹And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

¹¹In Elkana je šel v Ramo v hišo svojo. A deček je bil strežnik GOSPODU pred očmi Elija duhovnika.

¹²Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

¹²Sinova Elijeva pa sta bila otroka Belijalova; nista poznala GOSPODA.

¹³And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

¹³In navada duhovnikov proti ljudstvu je bila: Kadar je kdo prinesel daritev, je prišel, ko se je meso kuhalo, duhovnikov hlapec s trirogljatimi vilicami v roki,

¹⁴And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

¹⁴in je ž njimi sunil v medenico ali v lonec ali v kotel ali v ponev, in karkoli je z vilicami izvlekel, je vzel duhovnik zase. Tako so delali v Silu vsem Izraelcem, ki so prihajali tja.

¹⁵Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

¹⁵Enako je prišel tudi, preden so zažgali tolstino, duhovnikov hlapec in rekel možu, ki je opravljal daritev: Daj mesa, da ga opečem duhovniku; zakaj ne bo vzel kuhanega mesa od tebe, temuč sirovo.

¹⁶And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

¹⁶Ako je rekel dotičnik: Saj bodo precej zažgali tolstino, potem vzemi, kolikor ti ugaja; tedaj mu je odgovoril: Ne, ampak daj mi ga zdaj, in če ne daš, vzamem s silo.

¹⁷Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

¹⁷In greh mladeničev je bil silno velik pred GOSPODOM, kajti ljudje so zaničevali darila GOSPODOVA.

¹⁸But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

¹⁸Samuel pa je stregel pred obličjem GOSPODOVIM, še deček, prepasan s platnenim naramnikom;

¹⁹Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

¹⁹k temu mu je leto za letom napravila mati njegova suknjico in mu jo prinesla, ko je prišla gori z možem svojim opravljat vsakoletno daritev.

²⁰And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

²⁰In Eli je blagoslovil Elkana in ženo njegovo in rekel: GOSPOD ti daj zarod od te žene namesto darovanega, ki ga je izročila GOSPODU! In šli so v hišo svojo.

²¹And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

²¹In GOSPOD je obiskal Ano, da je spočela in rodila še tri sinove in dve hčeri. A deček Samuel je napredoval pri GOSPODU.

²²Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

²²Eli pa je bil silno star; in slišal je vse, kar počenjata sinova njegova z vsem Izraelom ter da se družita z ženami, ki so opravljale službo pri vratih shodnega šatora.

²³And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

²³In dejal je jima: Zakaj to delata? slišim namreč o vajinih hudih dejanjih od vsega tega ljudstva.

²⁴Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.

²⁴Nikar, sinova moja! zakaj to ni dober glas, ki ga slišim; povzročata, da GOSPODOVO ljudstvo prestopa.

²⁵If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

²⁵Ako kdo greši zoper človeka, Bog mu je sodnik; ko pa kdo greši zoper GOSPODA, kdo se potegne zanj? Ali nista poslušala glasu očeta svojega; kajti GOSPOD ju je hotel umoriti.

²⁶And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the LORD, and also with men.

²⁶A deček Samuel je vedno napredoval in je bil prijeten GOSPODU in tudi ljudem.

²⁷And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

²⁷Pride pa mož Božji k Eliju in mu reče: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Nisem li se razodel očeta tvojega družini, ko so še bili v Egiptu, pri hiši Faraonovi?

²⁸And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

²⁸In njega sem si izvolil izmed vseh rodov Izraelovih, da bodi moj duhovnik, da daruje na mojem oltarju, da pali kadilo in naramnik nosi pred obličjem mojim; in očeta tvojega hiši sem dal vse daritve, ki jih po ognju darujejo sinovi Izraelovi.

²⁹Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honorest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

²⁹Zakaj teptate daritve moje in jedilna darila meni, ki sem jih zapovedal v prebivališču svojem? In sinova svoja bolj spoštuješ nego mene, da se redite z najboljšim od jedilnih daril Izraela, ljudstva mojega!

³⁰Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

³⁰Zato pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov: Rekel sem bil res, da naj bi hiša tvoja in tvojega očeta hiša hodili pred mano vekomaj; ali sedaj pravi GOSPOD: Ne bodi tako; zakaj tiste, ki me časte, počastim tudi jaz, in ki mene zaničujejo, malo jih bom cenil tudi jaz.

³¹Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

³¹Glej, pridejo dnevi, da odsekam ramo tvojo in ramo hiši očeta tvojega, da ne bo starca v hiši tvoji.

³²And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

³²In videl boš le stisko prebivališča mojega, pri vsem dobrem, kar Bog dodeli Izraelu in priletnega ne bode v hiši tvoji vekomaj.

³³And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

³³Nočem ti sicer slehernega zatreti od oltarja mojega, ker bi ti usahnile oči in duša ti skoprnela, ali vsa mladina hiše tvoje pomrje v moških letih.

³⁴And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

³⁴In to ti bodi v znamenje, kar pride na oba sinova tvoja, Ofnija in Pinehasa: obadva umrjeta eden dan.

³⁵And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

³⁵In obudim si zvestega duhovnika, ki bo delal, kakor je po mojem srcu in po mojih mislih, in njemu sezidam stanovitno hišo; in hodil bo pred maziljencem mojim vse dni.In zgodi se, da vsak, kdor preostane iz hiše tvoje, pride in se njemu pokloni za srebrn denar in hlebček kruha ter poreče: Prosim, pripusti me vsaj v eno duhovsko službo, da jem grižljaj kruha.

³⁶And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

³⁶In zgodi se, da vsak, kdor preostane iz hiše tvoje, pride in se njemu pokloni za srebrn denar in hlebček kruha ter poreče: Prosim, pripusti me vsaj v eno duhovsko službo, da jem grižljaj kruha.
