¹For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:

¹Saj sami veste, bratje, za naš prihod k vam, da ni bil prazen:

²But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

²temuč, dasi smo trpeli prej in smo bili zasramovani, kakor veste, v Filipih, osrčili smo se v Bogu našem, da govorimo k vam evangelij Božji v mnogem boju.

³For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

³Kajti opominjanje naše ni iz zmotnjave, ne iz nečistosti, ne v zvijači,

⁴But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

⁴temuč kakor nas je Bog za vredne spoznal izročiti nam evangelij, tako govorimo; ne da bi bili ljudem po volji, ampak Bogu, ki presoja srca naša.

⁵For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

⁵Kajti s prilizljivo besedo nismo nastopili nikdar, kakor veste, niti s kako pretvezo za lakomnost, Bog je priča;

⁶Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

⁶tudi nismo iskali slave od ljudi, ne od vas, ne od drugih, dasi bi bili lahko imenitni kakor apostoli Kristusovi.

⁷But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

⁷Ampak bili smo krotki sredi vas, kakor pač dojka goji otroke svoje:

⁸So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

⁸prav tako, milo hrepeneč po vas, nas je bila volja, ne samo podati vam evangelij Božji, ampak tudi duše svoje, ker smo si vas jako priljubili.

⁹For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

⁹Saj se spominjate, bratje, truda našega in težave: ker noč in dan smo delali, da bi ne bili nadležni komu izmed vas, ko smo vam oznanjali evangelij Božji.

¹⁰Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

¹⁰Vi ste priče, pa tudi Bog, kako sveto in pravično in brez graje smo se vedli do vas, ki verujete;

¹¹As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

¹¹da smo, kakor veste, slehernega izmed vas kakor oče otroke svoje opominjali, izpodbujali in rotili,

¹²That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

¹²da živite dostojno Boga, ki vas kliče v svoje kraljestvo in slavo.

¹³For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

¹³Zato tudi mi zahvaljujemo Boga neprestano, da ste, prejemši od nas besedo oznanila Božjega, jo sprejeli ne kot besedo človeško, ampak, kakor je resnično, kot besedo Božjo, ki tudi deluje v vas verujočih.

¹⁴For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

¹⁴Zakaj vi ste postali, bratje, posnemalci cerkva Božjih, ki so v Judeji v Kristusu Jezusu, ker ste tudi vi isto trpeli od lastnih rojakov, kakor tudi oni od Judov;

¹⁵Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

¹⁵ti so i Gospoda Jezusa umorili i proroke in nas pregnali, in Bogu niso prijetni in vsem ljudem so zoprni;

¹⁶Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

¹⁶nam branijo govoriti poganom, da bi se zveličali, da tako vsekdar napolnijo mero grehov svojih. Prišla pa je nadnje jeza Božja do konca.

¹⁷But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

¹⁷Mi pa, bratje, osiroteli za vami za nekaj časa, po obličju, ne po srcu, smo si tolikanj bolj prizadevali videti obličje vaše z mnogim hrepenenjem.

¹⁸Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

¹⁸Zato smo hoteli priti k vam, jaz Pavel enkrat, dvakrat, a branil nam je satan.

¹⁹For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

¹⁹Kajti kdo je naše upanje, ali veselje, ali slave venec? Ali ne tudi vi pred Gospodom našim Jezusom Kristusom o prihodu njegovem?Vi ste zares slava naša in veselje.
