¹And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

¹In ko Roboam dospe v Jeruzalem, zbere hišo Judovo in Benjaminovo, sto in osemdeset tisoč izbranih mož vojščakov, da se bojujejo zoper Izraela in zopet pridobé kraljestvo Roboamu.

²But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

²Ali beseda GOSPODOVA pride Semaju, možu Božjemu, govoreč:

³Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

³Govóri Roboamu, sinu Salomonovemu, kralju Judovemu, in vsemu Izraelu na Judovem in Benjaminovem, in véli:

⁴Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

⁴Tako pravi GOSPOD: Ne hodite gori in ne bojujte se z brati svojimi; vrnite se vsak v hišo svojo, zakaj od mene je prišla ta reč. In poslušali so besedo GOSPODOVO in so se vrnili, da ne bi šli zoper Jeroboama.

⁵And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

⁵In Roboam je prebival v Jeruzalemu in prezidal je mesta na Judovem v trdnjave.

⁶He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁶Pozidal je namreč Betlehem, Etam, Tekoo,

⁷And Bethzur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

⁷Betzur, Soko, Adulam,

⁸And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁸Gat, Mareso, Zif,

⁹And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

⁹Adoraim, Lahis, Azeko,

¹⁰And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

¹¹And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

¹¹In utrdil je trdnjave in namestil poveljnike vanje in preskrbel živeža, olja in vina,

¹²And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

¹²in v vsako posamezno mesto je del ščite in sulice ter jih je povsem dobro utrdil. In Juda in Benjamin sta bila njegova.

¹³And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

¹³In duhovniki in leviti, ki so bili po vsem Izraelu, so prišli k njemu iz vseh svojih krajev.

¹⁴For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:

¹⁴Kajti leviti so zapustili svoje okraje in posestva ter so se priselili na Judovo in v Jeruzalem; Jeroboam in sinovi njegovi so jih namreč zavrgli, da ne bi opravljali duhovniške službe GOSPODU;

¹⁵And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

¹⁵in postavil si je duhovnike za višave in za mališke kozle in za teleti, ki si ju je bil naredil.

¹⁶And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

¹⁶In za duhovniki so prihajali iz vseh rodov Izraelovih tisti, ki so nagnili srce svoje, da bi iskali GOSPODA, Izraelovega Boga, v Jeruzalem darovat GOSPODU, Bogu očetov svojih.

¹⁷So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

¹⁷S tem so pomagali do moči kraljestvu Judovemu in utrjevali Roboama, sina Salomonovega, tri leta; kajti tri leta so hodili po poti Davidovi in Salomonovi.

¹⁸And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

¹⁸In Roboam si vzame za ženo Mahalato, hčer Jerimota, sina Davidovega, in Abihaile, hčere Eliaba, sina Jesejevega;

¹⁹Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

¹⁹in ona mu je rodila sinove: Jeuša, Semarija in Zahama.

²⁰And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

²⁰Po tej si vzame še Maako, hčer Absalomovo, in ta mu je rodila Abija, Ataja, Ziza in Selomita.

²¹And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

²¹Ljubil je pa Roboam Maako, hčer Absalomovo, bolj nego vse žene in priležnice svoje (vzel si je namreč osemnajst žen in šestdeset priležnic in je rodil osemindvajset sinov in šestdeset hčera).

²²And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

²²In Roboam je postavil Abija, sina Maake, da bodi glava, knez med svojimi brati, zakaj hotel ga je postaviti za kralja.In ravnal je previdno in razstavil je vse sinove svoje po vseh krajih Judovih in Benjaminovih, po vseh utrjenih mestih, in oskrbel jim je živeža v obilici; in snubil jim je mnogo žen.

²³And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.

²³In ravnal je previdno in razstavil je vse sinove svoje po vseh krajih Judovih in Benjaminovih, po vseh utrjenih mestih, in oskrbel jim je živeža v obilici; in snubil jim je mnogo žen.
