¹Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

¹Jaz Pavel sam pa vas opominjam po krotkosti in tihosti Kristusovi, ki sem vpričo vas resda ponižen med vami, a kadar me ni pri vas, pa drzen proti vam.

²But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

²Prosim pa, da mi ne bo treba, kadar bodem pri vas, drzen biti s to zaupnostjo, s katero mislim, da se smem zdrzniti na nekatere, ki mislijo, kakor da živimo po mesu.

³For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

³Kajti čeprav živimo v mesu, ne vojskujemo se po mesu

⁴(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

⁴(zakaj orožje našega vojskovanja ni meseno, ampak močno po Bogu za razrušenje trdnjav),

⁵Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

⁵ko razdevamo sovražne naklepe in vsako visokost, ki se vzdiguje zoper spoznanje Božje, in vodimo vsako misel v sužnost pokorščine do Kristusa

⁶And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

⁶in imamo pripravljeno maščevanje za vsako neposlušnost, kadar se izpolni vaša poslušnost.

⁷Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.

⁷Gledate li na to, kar je pred očmi? Če kdo zaupa sebi, da je Kristusov, pomisli naj zopet v sebi to: kakor je on Kristusov, prav tako smo tudi mi.

⁸For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

⁸Kajti ko bi se tudi kaj obilneje hvalil z oblastjo našo, ki jo je nam dal Gospod za zidanje in ne za razdevanje vaše, ne bom se osramotil;

⁹That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

⁹da se ne bo videlo, kakor da vas strašim z listi.

¹⁰For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

¹⁰Kajti ‚listi njegovi‘, pravijo, ‚so tehtni in krepki, ali ko je navzočen s telesom, je slaboten in beseda mu je šibka‘.

¹¹Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

¹¹To naj misli, kdor tako govori, da kakršni smo nenavzočni v besedi po listih, taki smo tudi navzočni v dejanju.

¹²For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

¹²Kajti ne drznemo se pridružiti se k nekaterim ali primerjati se ž njimi, ki sami sebe priporočajo; kateri pa, ko se sami po sebi merijo in primerjajo sami sebe s seboj, ničesar ne umejo.

¹³But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

¹³A mi se ne bomo čez vso mero hvalili, temuč po meri delokroga, ki nam ga je Bog podelil za mero, da naj dospemo tudi do vas.

¹⁴For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

¹⁴Kajti mi se ne iztezamo predaleč, kakor da bi ne mogli doseči do vas, zakaj tudi prav do vas smo prišli v evangeliju Kristusovem;

¹⁵Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

¹⁵in ne hvalimo se čez mero ali s tujimi trudi, temuč imamo upanje, da se, ker raste vera vaša, poveličamo med vami v soglasju z delokrogom svojim na še večjo obilnost,

¹⁶To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.

¹⁶tako da še onkraj vas oznanimo evangelij, ne da bi se hvalili s tem, kar je v delokrogu drugega že napravljenega.

¹⁷But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

¹⁷Kdor se pa hvali, v Gospodu naj se hvali.Kajti kdor sam sebe priporoča, ni preizkušen, ampak ta, kogar Gospod priporoča.

¹⁸For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

¹⁸Kajti kdor sam sebe priporoča, ni preizkušen, ampak ta, kogar Gospod priporoča.
