¹In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.

²And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.

³Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.

³Zoper njega je prišel Salmaneser, kralj asirski, in Hosea mu je postal podložnik in mu dajal davek.

⁴And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

⁵Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

⁶In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁶V devetem letu Hosea je kralj asirski dobil Samarijo in odpeljal Izraela v Asirijo in jih je naselil v Halahi in v Haborju, ob reki Gozanu, in v mestih Medov.

⁷For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

⁷To pa se je zgodilo, ker so grešili sinovi Izraelovi zoper GOSPODA, svojega Boga, ki jih je bil odpeljal iz Egipta, izpod oblasti Faraona, kralja egiptovskega, in ker so se bali drugih bogov

⁸And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

⁸in živeli po postavah poganov, ki jih je bil GOSPOD pregnal pred sinovi Izraelovimi, in po postavah kraljev Izraelovih, ki so jih naredili.

⁹And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

⁹In sinovi Izraelovi so skrivaj počenjali stvari, ki niso bile prave, zoper GOSPODA, Boga svojega, in so si zidali višave po vseh mestih svojih, od čuvajevega stolpa do utrjenega mesta.

¹⁰And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

¹⁰In postavljali so stebre s podobami in Ašere na vsakem visokem hribu in pod vsakim zelenim drevesom,

¹¹And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:

¹¹in tam so žgali kadilo po vseh višavah kakor poganski narodi, ki jih je bil GOSPOD pregnal izpred njih obličja, in delali so hudobne reči, da bi dražili GOSPODA v jezo.

¹²For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

¹²In služili so malikom, o čemer jim je rekel GOSPOD: Ne storíte take reči!

¹³Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

¹³In ko je GOSPOD pričal proti Izraelu in proti Judi po vseh prorokih in vseh vidcih, govoreč: Obrnite se od hudih poti svojih in izpolnjujte zapovedi in postave moje soglasno z vsem zakonom, ki sem ga zapovedal očetom vašim in ki sem vam ga pošiljal po hlapcih svojih prorokih!

¹⁴Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

¹⁴vendar niso poslušali, ampak zatrdili so svoj zatilnik, da je bil enak zatilniku njih očetov, ki niso verovali v GOSPODA, Boga svojega.

¹⁵And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

¹⁵In zaničevali so postave njegove in zavezo njegovo, ki jo je sklenil ž njih očeti, in pričevanja njegova, ki jih je pričal zoper nje, in hodeč za ničemurnostjo, so postali ničemurni in so sledili za pogani, ki so bivali okrog njih, za katere jim je GOSPOD ukazal, da naj ne delajo njim enako.

¹⁶And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

¹⁶In so zapustili vse zapovedi GOSPODA, Boga svojega, in si napravili ulite podobe, zlasti dve teleti, in naredili Ašero in so molili vso vojsko nebeško in služili Baalu.

¹⁷And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁷In so darovali svoje sinove in svoje hčere, vodeč jih skozi ogenj, in se pečali z vedeževanjem in čaranjem in se prodali, da bi delali, kar je bilo hudo v očeh GOSPODOVIH, da bi ga dražili v jezo.

¹⁸Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

¹⁸In razjezil se je GOSPOD silno nad Izraelom in ga je odpravil izpred svojih oči, da ni ostal nihče nego sam rod Judov.

¹⁹Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

¹⁹Pa tudi Juda ni izpolnjeval zapovedi GOSPODA, Boga svojega, temuč živel je po postavah Izraelovih, ki so si jih naredili.

²⁰And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²⁰Zato je GOSPOD zavrgel vse seme Izraelovo, in jih je stiskal in jih dal plenilcem v roke, dokler jih ni pognal izpred obličja svojega.

²¹For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.

²¹Kajti odtrgal je Izraela od hiše Davidove, in postavili so za kralja Jeroboama, sina Nebatovega; in Jeroboam je odtegnil Izraela, da ni šel za GOSPODOM, in je povzročil, da so hudo grešili.

²²For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;

²³Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

²³dokler ni GOSPOD odpravil Izraela izpred obličja svojega, kakor je bil govoril po vseh svojih hlapcih prorokih. Tako je bil Izrael preseljen iz svoje dežele v Asirijo, do tega dne.

²⁴And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

²⁴Kralj asirski pa je pripeljal ljudi iz Babela in iz Kute in iz Ave, iz Hamata in Sefarvaima in jih je razstavil po mestih samarijskih namesto sinov Izraelovih. In prilastili so si Samarijo ter prebivali v njenih mestih.

²⁵And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

²⁵A v začetku, ko so prebivali ondi, se niso bali GOSPODA; zato je GOSPOD poslal mednje leve, ki so jih morili.

²⁶Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

²⁶Zatorej sporoče kralju asirskemu, rekoč: Narodi, ki si jih preselil in razstavil po mestih samarijskih, ne poznajo pravic deželnega Boga, zato je poslal leve mednje; in glej, ti jih more, ker ne poznajo pravic deželnega Boga.

²⁷Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.

²⁷Tedaj zapove kralj asirski, rekoč: Peljite tja enega izmed duhovnikov, ki ste jih odondod privedli; ta naj gre in se ondi nastani in jih uči pravice Boga tiste dežele.

²⁸Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

²⁸Nato pride eden duhovnikov, katere so odpeljali iz Samarije, in se nastani v Betelu ter jih uči, kako naj se boje GOSPODA.

²⁹Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

²⁹Ali vsak narod je naredil svojega boga, in postavili so jih v hiše višav, ki so jih bili Samarijani napravili, vsak narod po mestih svojih, v katerih so prebivali.

³⁰And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

³⁰Babelski možje so namreč naredili Sukot-benota, možje iz Kuta pa so naredili Nergala, možje iz Hamata Asima,

³¹And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

³¹Avljani pa so naredili Nibhaza in Tartaka, a Sefarvaimci so sežigali svoje otroke v ognju Adrameleku in Anameleku, bogovoma Sefarvaimov.

³²So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

³²Vendar so se bali GOSPODA in si postavili izmed sebe duhovnike višavam, ki so darovali zanje v hišah po višavah.

³³They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

³³GOSPODA so se sicer bali, a služili so tudi svojim bogovom po navadi narodov, izmed katerih so bili sem priseljeni.

³⁴Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

³⁴In do današnjega dne se ravnajo po prvotni navadi: GOSPODA se ne boje; tudi ne delajo po svojih postavah in naredbah, pa tudi ne po postavi in zapovedi, ki jo je GOSPOD zapovedal sinovom Jakoba, ki mu je dal ime Izrael,

³⁵With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

³⁵s katerim je GOSPOD sklenil zavezo, in jim je zapovedal, govoreč: Ne bojte se drugih bogov, tudi se jim ne klanjajte, ne služite jim in ne darujte jim;

³⁶But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

³⁶ampak GOSPODA, ki vas je z veliko močjo in z iztegnjeno ramo odpeljal iz Egiptovske dežele, njega se bojte, njemu se poklanjajte in njemu darujte;

³⁷And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

³⁷in pazite na postave in naredbe, zakon in zapoved, ki vam jih je predpisal, da jih izpolnjujete vse svoje žive dni, in ne bojte se drugih bogov;

³⁸And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

³⁸in zaveze, ki sem jo sklenil z vami, ne zabite, tudi se ne bojte drugih bogov,

³⁹But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

³⁹marveč bojte se GOSPODA, Boga svojega, in on vas otme iz roke vseh sovražnikov vaših.

⁴⁰Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

⁴⁰Toda niso poslušali, temuč so delali po svoji prvotni navadi.Tako so se ti narodi sicer bali GOSPODA, toda služili so svojim izrezanim podobam; enako delajo tudi njih otroci in njih otrok otroci do tega dne, kakor so delali njih očetje.

⁴¹So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

⁴¹Tako so se ti narodi sicer bali GOSPODA, toda služili so svojim izrezanim podobam; enako delajo tudi njih otroci in njih otrok otroci do tega dne, kakor so delali njih očetje.
