³For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

³Zelo sem se veselil, ko so prišli bratje in so pričali za resnico tvojo, kakor ti živiš v resnici.

⁴I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

⁴Večjega veselja nimam od tega, da slišim, da otroci moji žive v resnici.

⁵Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

⁵Ljubljeni, zvesto ravnaš v tem, karkoli delaš za brate, in to tujce,

⁶Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

⁶ki so pričali za ljubezen tvojo pred cerkvijo; in dobro boš delal, če jih odpravljaš na pot, kakor je vredno Boga.

⁷Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

⁷Kajti zaradi imena njegovega so šli na pot, ničesar ne jemajoč od poganov.

⁸We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

⁸Mi torej smo dolžni sprejemati take, da jim bodemo sodelavci za resnico.

⁹I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

⁹Pisal sem nekaj vaši cerkvi, ali Diotrefej, ki hoče prvakovati med njimi, nas ne sprejme.

¹⁰Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

¹⁰Zato, ako pridem, ga spomnim del njegovih, ki jih dela, s hudobnimi besedami blebetajoč zoper nas; in ne zadovoljen s tem, ne samo sam ne sprejema bratov, ampak brani tudi njim, ki hočejo sprejemati, in jih izobčuje iz cerkve.

¹¹Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

¹¹Ljubljeni, ne posnemaj slabega, marveč dobro. Kdor dobro dela, je iz Boga; kdor slabo dela, ni videl Boga.

¹²Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

¹²Demetrij ima dobro pričevanje od vseh in od same resnice; in tudi mi pričamo zanj, in veš, da je pričevanje naše resnično.

¹³I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

¹³Mnogo sem imel pisati, ali nočem ti pisati s črnilom in peresom;upam pa te videti skoraj in govorila bova iz ust do ust. [1:15] Mir tebi! Pozdravljajo te prijatelji. Pozdravi prijatelje po imenu.

¹⁴But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
