¹When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

¹Ko GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, iztrebi narode, katerih deželo ti daje GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, in se je polastiš in boš prebival v njih mestih in hišah,

²Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

²si oddeliš tri mesta sredi dežele, ki ti jo daje GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, da jo posedeš.

³Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

³Napravi si dobro pot do njih in razdeli ozemlje svoje dežele, ki ti jo da v dediščino GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, v tri dele, da zbeži tja vsak ubijalec.

⁴And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbor ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

⁴In to je pravilo zastran ubijalca, ki naj tja zbeži, da ostane živ: kdor udari svojega bližnjega nehotoma in ga ni v prejšnjem času sovražil;

⁵As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbor, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

⁵kakor če gre kdo z bližnjim svojim v gozd drva sekat in zamahne s sekiro, da bi drevo posekal, in železo odleti s toporišča in zadene njegovega bližnjega, da umrje: tisti naj zbeži v eno teh mest, in ostane živ;

⁶Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

⁶da ne bi se maščevalec krvi spustil za njim, ko mu je še srce razljučeno, in ga dohitel, ker bi bila pot dolga, in ga smrtno udaril, ko vendar ni bil vreden smrti, ker ga doslej ni še sovražil.

⁷Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

⁷Zatorej ti zapovedujem tole: Oddeli si tri mesta.

⁸And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

⁸In ko razširi GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, tvoje meje, kakor je prisegel tvojim očetom, in ti da vso deželo, ki jo je obljubil dati tvojim očetom,

⁹If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

⁹ako boš pazil na vso to zapoved, ki ti jo danes zapovedujem, izpolnjujoč jo s tem, da ljubiš GOSPODA, svojega Boga, in hodiš vse dni po njegovih potih: tedaj si prideni še tri mesta k onim trem,

¹⁰That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

¹⁰da se ne prelije nedolžna kri v tvoji deželi, ki ti jo da v dediščino GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, in tako ne pride krivda krvi nad tebe.

¹¹But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

¹¹A če je kdo sovražen bližnjemu svojemu in ga zalezuje, in vstane zoper njega in ga smrtno udari, da umrje, potem pa zbeži v eno teh mest:

¹²Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

¹²tedaj pošljejo starejšine njegovega mesta, da se pripelje odondod, in ga izroče maščevalcu krvi, da naj umrje.

¹³Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

¹³Naj mu ne prizanese tvoje oko, temuč odpravi kri nedolžnih iz Izraela, da se ti bo dobro godilo.

¹⁴Thou shalt not remove thy neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

¹⁴Ne premakni bližnjemu svojemu mejnika, ki so ga ob meji postavili predniki, ob tvoji dediščini, ki jo podeduješ v deželi, ki ti jo daje GOSPOD, tvoj Bog, da jo posedeš.

¹⁵One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

¹⁵Ne vstane naj edina priča zoper koga zaradi katerekoli krivice ali kateregakoli greha, s kakršnimkoli grehom se ta zagreši; na dveh ali treh prič izpovedbo naj se opira vsaka stvar.

¹⁶If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

¹⁶Ako vstane zoper koga krivična priča, da ga okrivi prestopa,

¹⁷Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;

¹⁷naj stopita oba moža, med katerima je ta prepir, pred GOSPODA, pred duhovnike in sodnike, ki bodo v tem času;

¹⁸And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

¹⁸in sodniki naj preiščejo vse natanko, in glej, ta pričevalec je kriva priča, laž je izpovedal zoper bližnjega svojega;

¹⁹Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

¹⁹tedaj mu storite, kakor je hotel storiti bratu svojemu: tako odpraviš hudo izmed sebe.

²⁰And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

²⁰In ko bodo slišali drugi, se bodo bali in poslej ne bodo počenjali takega hudega sredi tebe.In tvoje oko ne prizanašaj: življenje za življenje, oko za oko, zob za zob, roka za roko, noga za nogo.

²¹And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
