¹And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

²And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

²Zgodi se pa, ko so potovali od jutra, da so našli ravnino v deželi Sinearski, ter so se nastanili tam.

³And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

³In rekli so drug drugemu: Dejte, naredimo opeko in jo izžgimo z ognjem! In bila jim je opeka za kamenje in zemeljska smola namesto malte.

⁴And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

⁴In rekli so: Dejte, zgradimo si mesto in stolp, ki mu vrh bodi do neba, in naredimo si ime, da se morda ne razkropimo po vsej zemlji.

⁵And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

⁵Ali GOSPOD pride doli pogledat mesto in stolp, ki so ga gradili otroci človeški.

⁶And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

⁶In reče GOSPOD: Glej, ljudstvo je eno in vsem je edina gvorica, in to je samo začetek njih dela; sedaj pa se jim ne zabrani nič, kar so sklenili storiti.

⁷Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

⁷Dejte, pojdimo doli in zmešajmo jim tam njih govorico, da ne bodo umeli drug drugega govorice.

⁸So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

⁸Tako jih je razkropil GOSPOD odtod po vsej zemlji, in nehali so graditi tisto mesto.

⁹Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

⁹Zato so imenovali ime njegovo Babel, ker je bil tam GOSPOD zmedel vse zemlje govorico, in odtod jih je GOSPOD razkropil po vsej zemlji.

¹⁰These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

¹⁰To so rodovi Semovi. Sem je imel sto let, ko je rodil Arpaksada, dve leti po potopu;

¹¹And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹²And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

¹⁴Šelah pa je živel trideset let, ko je rodil Heberja;

¹⁵And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁵in živel je Šelah, rodivši Heberja, še štiristo in tri leta in rodil sinove in hčere.

¹⁶And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

¹⁶Heber pa je živel štiriintrideset let, ko je rodil Pelega;

¹⁷And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁷in živel je Heber, rodivši Pelega, še štiristo trideset let in rodil sine in hčere.

¹⁸And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

¹⁸Peleg pa je živel trideset let, ko je rodil Reguja;

¹⁹And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁹in živel je Peleg, rodivši Reguja, še dvesto devet let in rodil sinove in hčere.

²⁰And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

²⁰Regu pa je živel dvaintrideset let, ko je rodil Seruga;

²¹And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

²¹in živel je Regu, rodivši Seruga, še dvesto sedem let in rodil sinove in hčere.

²²And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

²²Serug pa je živel trideset let, ko je rodil Nahorja;

²³And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

²³in živel je Serug, rodivši Nahorja, še dvesto let in rodil sinove in hčere.

²⁴And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

²⁴Nahor pa je živel devetindvajset let, ko je rodil Teraha;

²⁵And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

²⁵in živel je Nahor, rodivši Teraha, še sto devetnajst let in rodil sine in hčere.

²⁶And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶Terah pa je živel sedemdeset let, ko je rodil Abrama, Nahorja in Harana.

²⁷Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

²⁷In to so rodovi Terahovi: Terah rodi Abrama, Nahorja in Harana; Haran pa rodi Lota.

²⁸And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

²⁸Umrl pa je Haran pred obličjem očeta svojega Teraha v svojem rojstnem kraju, v Uru Kaldejcev.

²⁹And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

²⁹In vzameta si Abram in Nahor ženi; ime ženi Abramovi je bilo Saraj, ime ženi Nahorjevi pa Milka, hči Harana, očeta Milke in Jiske.

³⁰But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

³⁰In Saraj je bila nerodovitna, imela ni otrok.

³¹And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

³¹Vzame pa Terah Abrama, sina svojega, in Lota, sina Haranovega, vnuka svojega, in Sarajo, snaho svojo, ženo Abrama, sina svojega, in odidejo skupaj iz Ura v Kaldejcih popotovat v deželo Kanaansko, ter pridejo do Harana in se nastanijo tam.In bilo je dni Terahovih dvesto pet let; in umrl je Terah v Haranu.
