¹And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down thither.

¹Jožefa torej pripeljejo doli v Egipt, in kupi ga Potifar, dvornik Faraonov, načelnik telesne straže, Egipčan, iz roke Izmaelcev, ki so ga bili pripeljali tja.

²And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

²A GOSPOD je bil ž Jožefom, in bil je mož, ki mu je šlo vse po sreči; in je bival v hiši gospodarja svojega, Egipčana.

³And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

³In gospodar njegov je videl, da je GOSPOD ž njim in da vse, kar on počenja, pospešuje GOSPOD v roki njegovi.

⁴And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

⁴In našel je Jožef milost v očeh njegovih in bil mu je za strežnika. In postavil ga je čez hišo svojo in vse, kar je imel, dal v roko njegovo.

⁵And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

⁵In odkar ga je bil postavil čez hišo svojo in čez vse, kar je imel, je blagoslovil GOSPOD Egipčanovo hišo zaradi Jožefa, in bil je blagoslov GOSPODOV v vsem, kar je on imel, doma in na polju.

⁶And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favored.

⁶Zato je prepustil vse, kar je imel, roki Jožefovi, in ni se brigal za nobeno stvar pri njem razen za hrano, ki jo je sam užival. Bil je pa Jožef lepe postave in zalega obličja.

⁷And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

⁷Zgodi se pa po teh dogodkih, da nameri žena gospodarja njegovega oči svoje v Jožefa in reče: Lezi z menoj!

⁸But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

⁸On pa se brani ter reče gospodarja svojega ženi: Glej, gospod moj se ne briga za nobeno stvar pri meni v hiši in vse, kar ima, je dal v roko mojo.

⁹There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

⁹Še sam ni večji od mene v tej hiši, in ničesar mi ni odtegnil razen tebe, ker si žena njegova. Kako bi torej jaz storil toliko zlo in grešil zoper Boga?

¹⁰And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

¹⁰In ko je ona ogovarjala Jožefa vsak dan, ni ji privolil, da bi ležal poleg nje, niti da bi se mudil ž njo.

¹¹And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

¹¹Zgodi se pa nekega takega dne, ko je prišel domov opravljat delo svoje, da ni bilo nikogar iz domačinov tam notri.

¹²And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

¹²Tedaj ga zgrabi ona za obleko njegovo, rekoč: Lezi z menoj! On pa pusti obleko svojo v njeni roki in pobegne ter gre iz hiše.

¹³And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

¹³Ko pa je videla, da je pustil obleko svojo v njeni roki in pobegnil iz hiše,

¹⁴That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

¹⁴pokliče domačine svoje in jim reče: Glejte, pripeljal nam je moža Hebrejca, da nas sramoti. Ta je prišel k meni, da bi ležal z menoj, ali zavpila sem z glasom velikim,

¹⁵And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.

¹⁵in ko je slišal, da sem zagnala glas in klicala, je pustil obleko svojo poleg mene in pobegnil in šel iz hiše.

¹⁶And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.

¹⁶Položi pa obleko njegovo poleg sebe, dokler pride gospodar njegov v hišo svojo.

¹⁷And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

¹⁷Nato ga ogovori s takimi besedami, rekoč: Prišel je k meni tisti hlapec Hebrejec, ki si ga nam pripeljal, da bi me sramotil.

¹⁸And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.

¹⁸Toda ko sem zagnala glas in klicala, je pustil obleko svojo poleg mene in pobegnil iz hiše.

¹⁹And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

¹⁹In ko je gospodar njegov slišal žene svoje besede, s katerimi mu je povedala, rekoč: Takole mi je storil hlapec tvoj, se silno razsrdi.

²⁰And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

²⁰In zgrabi Jožefa gospodar njegov ter ga dene v stolp, v kraj, kjer so bili zvezani kraljevi jetniki; in bil je tam v stolpu.

²¹But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

²¹Ali GOSPOD je bil z Jožefom in naklonil mu je blagovoljnost in mu dal milost svojo pred očmi načelnika stolpu.

²²And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

²²In načelnik stolpa je dal Jožefu v roko vse zvezane v stolpu; in vse, kar so tam delali, je vodil on.Načelnik stolpa ni gledal na nobeno stvar, ki je bila v roki Jožefovi, zato ker je bil GOSPOD ž njim, in kar je počel, vse je pospeševal GOSPOD.

²³The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

²³Načelnik stolpa ni gledal na nobeno stvar, ki je bila v roki Jožefovi, zato ker je bil GOSPOD ž njim, in kar je počel, vse je pospeševal GOSPOD.
