¹In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

¹V drugem letu kralja Darija, v šestem mesecu, prvi dan meseca, je prišla beseda GOSPODOVA Zerubabelu, sinu Sealtiela, deželnemu oblastniku na Judovem, in Jozuetu, sinu Jozadakovemu, velikemu duhovniku, in je rekel po proroku Hagaju:

²Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.

²Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: To ljudstvo govori: Ni še prišel čas, čas hiši GOSPODOVI, da jo zgradimo.

³Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

³A beseda GOSPODOVA je prišla po proroku Hagaju in je rekel:

⁴Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?

⁴Za vas same pa je čas, da prebivate v svojih z deskami obitih hišah, hiša ta pa bodi pusta?

⁵Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

⁵Sedaj pa pravi tako GOSPOD nad vojskami: Pazite na svoja pota!

⁶Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

⁶Veliko ste sejali, a malo ste spravili pod streho; jeste, pa se ne nasitite, pijete, pa se ne napijete; oblačite se, a nihče se ne ogreje; in kdor prisluži plačilo, ga vrže v raztrgano mošnjo.

⁷Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

⁷Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: Pazite na svoja pota!

⁸Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

⁸Pojdite v gore in pripeljite lesa in zidajte hišo! To mi bode prijetno in se oslavim, pravi GOSPOD.

⁹Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

⁹Po velikem ste gledali, in glej, malo je postalo; in če ste kaj prinesli domov, sem to razpihnil. Zakaj to? govori GOSPOD nad vojskami. Zavoljo hiše moje, ker je pusta, a vi hitite vsak za hišo svojo.

¹⁰Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

¹⁰Zato je nebo zadržalo roso nad vami in zemlja je zadržala svoj sad.

¹¹And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

¹¹In poklical sem sušo na deželo in na gore, na žito in vino in olje in na vse, kar rodi zemlja, in na ljudi in na živino in na vse delo rok.

¹²Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.

¹²In poslušal je Zerubabel, sin Sealtielov, in Jozue, sin Jozadakov, veliki duhovnik, in ves ostanek ljudstva glas GOSPODA, Boga svojega, in besede proroka Hagaja, kakor ga je bil poslal GOSPOD, njih Bog; in ljudstvo se je balo GOSPODA.

¹³Then spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.

¹³Tedaj je rekel Hagaj, poslanec GOSPODOV, v poročilu GOSPODOVEM ljudstvu: Jaz sem z vami, govori GOSPOD.

¹⁴And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

¹⁴In GOSPOD je zbudil duha Zerubabelu, sinu Sealtielovemu, deželnemu oblastniku na Judovem, in duha Jozuetu, sinu Jozadakovemu, velikemu duhovniku, in duha vsemu ostanku ljudstva; in prišli so in se lotili dela pri hiši GOSPODA nad vojskami, Boga svojega,štiriindvajseti dan šestega meseca, drugo leto kralja Darija.
