¹Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

¹Izrael je košata trta, ki je poganjala sadove svoje. Čim obilneje jim je bilo sadu, tem bolj so množili oltarje; čim boljša njih dežela, tem lepše so delali poslikane stebre.

²Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

²Razdeljeno je njih srce, sedaj se bodo pokorili: on razdene njih oltarje, podere njih podobe.

³For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?

³Res, sedaj poreko: Nimamo kralja; kajti GOSPODA se nismo bali, in kralj – kaj bo ta nam pomagal?

⁴They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁴Govore prazne besede, prisegajo lažnivo, sklepajo zaveze: zato bo sodba poganjala kakor strupeno zelišče po brazdah na njivi.

⁵The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

⁵Prebivalci v Samariji bodo trepetali zavoljo teleta v Betavenu; da, ljudstvo njegovo bo nad njim žalovalo in njegovi mališki duhovniki se bodo zanje tresli, zavoljo slave njegove, ker je šla od njega;

⁶It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

⁸In pokončane bodo višave v Avenu, greh Izraelov; trnje in osat bosta zrasla na njih oltarjih. In poreko goram: Pokrijte nas! in hribom: Padite na nas!

⁹O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

⁹Od tistih dni v Gibei si grešil, o Izrael: tam so obstali. Ne zadene li jih v Gibei boj zoper sinove hudobnosti?

¹⁰It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.

¹⁰Kakor me bode volja, jih bom strahoval; in ljudstva se zbero zoper nje, kadar jih privežem k njih dvojni pregrehi.

¹¹In Efraim je izučena junica, ki rada vrši žito; jaz ji pa stopim na lepi vrat: Efraimu dam jezdeca, Juda bo oral, Jakob vlačil.

¹²Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

¹²Sejte si za pravičnost, ženjite po usmiljenju, preoravajte si novino: kajti čas je, da iščete GOSPODA, dokler ne pride in vam bo dežil pravičnost.

¹³Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

¹³Orali ste krivičnost, pregreho ste želi, sad laži ste jedli; kajti zanašal si se na pota svoja, na množico junakov svojih.

¹⁴Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.

¹⁴Zato nastane bojni hrup med ljudstvi tvojimi, in vse trdnjave tvoje bodo razvaljene, kakor je Salman razdejal Betarbelo v dan boja; mati z otroki vred je bila raztrupana.To vam napravi Betel zavoljo prevelike hudobnosti vaše; ob jutranjem svitu bo docela pokončan kralj Izraelov.

¹⁵So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
