¹Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.

²And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

²In mož bode kakor zavetje pred vetrom in pribežališče pred povodnjijo, kakor potoki vodá na suhem kraju, kakor senca skale velike v žejni deželi.

³And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

³In vidcev oči ne bodo več zalepljene in ušesa poslušalcev bodo pazljivo poslušala.

⁴The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.

⁴In srce nepremišljencev bo razumelo znanje in jecljajočih jezik bo hitro govoril in gladko.

⁵The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

⁵In nespametneža ne bodo več nazivali plemenitnika, in zvijačnika ne bodo imenovali blagosrčneža.

⁶For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

⁶Kajti nespametnež govori nespametnost in srce njegovo se peča s krivico, da počenja bogoskrunstvo in govori zapeljive zmote proti GOSPODU, da napravi prazno dušo lačnemu in žejnemu umakne pijačo.

⁷The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.

⁷Orodje zvijačnega je tudi hudobno: dela pregrešne naklepe, da pogubi ponižne z lažnivimi govori, tudi ko potrebni zagovarja pravico svojo.

⁸But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

⁸Ali plemeniti misli plemenito in stanoviten je v stvareh plemenitih.

⁹Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.

⁹Žene brezskrbne, vstanite, čujte glas moj, hčere prezaupne, poslušajte govor moj!

¹⁰Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.

¹⁰V teh dneh, ko mine leto, bodete v strahu, prezaupne, kajti propade trgatev, pobiranja ne bode.

¹¹Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.

¹¹Trepetajte, o brezskrbne, strah vas bodi, o prezaupljive, slecite se in bodite nage, in opašite si z raševnikom ledja.

¹²They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.

¹²Trkali se bodo na prsi zaradi prekrasnih njiv, zaradi trte rodovitne.

¹³Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city:

¹³Po zemlji ljudstva mojega bo raslo trnje in bodljikovje, tudi na vseh hišah veselih v mestu radostnem.

¹⁴Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;

¹⁴Kajti grad bode prazen, šumovito mesto bode zapuščeno, grič Ofel in stražni stolp bosta za brlog vekomaj, na veselje divjim oslom, čredam za pašnik –

¹⁵Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.

¹⁵dokler se ne razlije nad nas duh z višave in se puščava izpremeni v njivo rodovitno, in rodovitna njiva se bo štela za gozd.

¹⁶Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.

¹⁶In v puščavi se nastani pravica, in pravičnost bo prebivala na rodovitni njivi;

¹⁷And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

¹⁷in delo pravičnosti bode mir in obrodek pravičnosti pokoj in varnost vekomaj.

¹⁸And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;

¹⁸In ljudstvo moje bo prebivalo v domovju miru in v varnih prebivališčih in v krajih za pokoj mirnih.

¹⁹When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.

¹⁹A prej se bo toča usipala, ko se bo podiral gozd, in mesto bo globoko ponižano.Blagor vam, ki sejete poleg vseh vodá in puščate, da prosto hodijo noge volov in oslov!
