¹Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

¹Tako pravi GOSPOD: Kje je matere vaše ločitni list, s katerim sem jo odslovil? ali kdo je izmed upnikov mojih, ki sem mu vas prodal? Glejte, zaradi svojih krivic ste prodani in zaradi vaših prestopkov je odslovljena mati vaša.

²Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.

²Zakaj ni bilo nikogar, ko sem prišel? ko sem klical, nihče ni odgovoril? Je li mar roka moja prekratka, da bi otela? ali pa ni v meni moči nobene za rešenje? Glej, s karanjem svojim posušam morje, reke izpreminjam v puščavo, da njih ribe gnijejo in mrjo od žeje, zato ker ni vode.

³I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.

³Nebesa oblačim v črnino in raševino jim napravljam za odejo.

⁴The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

⁴Gospod Jehova mi je dal izurjen jezik, da znam o pravem času izreči besedo trudnemu. Zbuja me sleherno jutro, zbuja mi uho, da poslušam kakor učenec.

⁵The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

⁵Gospod Jehova mi je odprl uho, in jaz se nisem upiral, ne se umaknil.

⁶I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

⁶Život svoj sem izpostavil njim, ki so me bili, in lice svoje njim, ki so me tezali; obličja svojega nisem skril sramotenju in pljuvanju.

⁷For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

⁷Kajti Gospod Jehova mi pomaga, zato nisem bil osramočen; zatorej sem nastavil obličje svoje kakor pretrd kamen in vem, da ne pridem v sramoto.

⁸He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.

⁸Blizu je on, ki me opravičuje; kdo se bo prepiral z menoj? Stopiva si nasproti! Kdo hoče poskusiti pravdo zoper mene? naj pride k meni!

⁹Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

⁹Glej, Gospod Jehova mi bo pomagal: kdo je, ki bi me obsodil? Glej, vsi skup se postarajo kakor sukno, molj jih pokonča.

¹⁰Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.

¹⁰Kdo je med vami, ki se boji GOSPODA, ki posluša hlapca njegovega glas? Kdor hodi po temi, komur ni svetlobe, upaj v ime GOSPODOVO in opiraj se na Boga svojega!Glejte, vi vsi, ki vžigate ogenj, z ognjenimi strelami se oborožujete: pojdite v žar ognja svojega in v požare, ki ste jih zapalili. To se vam zgodi od moje roke, v bolesti boste ležali.

¹¹Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

¹¹Glejte, vi vsi, ki vžigate ogenj, z ognjenimi strelami se oborožujete: pojdite v žar ognja svojega in v požare, ki ste jih zapalili. To se vam zgodi od moje roke, v bolesti boste ležali.
