¹The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.

¹Beseda GOSPODOVA, ki je prišla Jeremiju o sušah:

²Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

²Judeja žaluje in vrata njena hirajo, v žalni obleki ležé na tleh in tožno vpitje Jeruzalema gre kvišku.

³And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

³Tudi njih plemenitniki pošiljajo najmanjše svoje po vodo: pridejo k vodnjakom, in ne najdejo vode, povrnejo se s praznimi posodami; sram jih je in s sramoto obliti si pokrivajo glave.

⁴Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

⁴Zavoljo žejne zemlje, ker ni bilo dežja v deželi, so kmetovalci osramočeni in si pokrivajo glave.

⁵Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

⁵Da, tudi košuta na polju zapušča mladiče, ko jih je rodila, ker ni nobene trave.

⁶And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

⁶In divji osli, stoječ na golih gričih, duškajo kakor šakali; hirajo jim oči, ker ni zelenjave.

⁷O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

⁷Dasi pričajo krivice naše zoper nas, o GOSPOD, delaj z nami zaradi imena svojega; kajti mnogi so odpadi naši, tebi smo grešili.

⁸O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

⁸O upanje Izraelovo, rešitelj njegov v času stiske, zakaj si kakor tujec v tej deželi in kakor popotnik, ki se ustavi, da prenoči?

⁹Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

⁹Zakaj bi bil kakor prestrašen mož, kakor junak, ki ne more rešiti? Saj si vendar sredi nas, GOSPOD, in po imenu tvojem se zovemo, ne zapusti nas!

¹⁰Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

¹⁰Tako pravi GOSPOD o tem ljudstvu: Tako radi tekajo semintja, nog svojih ne zdržujejo, zato jih GOSPOD ne sprejema prijazno; sedaj se spomni jih krivic in kaznoval bo njih grehe.

¹¹Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

¹¹In GOSPOD mi je velel: Nikar ne prosi temu ljudstvu v prid!

¹²When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

¹²Ko se bodo postili, ne uslišim njih vpitja, in ko bodo prinašali žgalne in jedilne daritve, jih milo ne sprejmem, temuč z mečem in lakoto in kugo jih pokončam.

¹³Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

¹³Tedaj rečem: Oh, Gospod Jehova! glej, tisti proroki jim govore: Ne boste izkusili meča in lakote vam ne bode, ampak stanoviten mir vam dam v tem kraju.

¹⁴Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

¹⁴Nato mi reče GOSPOD: Lažnivo prorokujejo tisti proroki v mojem imenu; nisem jih poslal, ne zapovedal jim, še ogovoril jih nisem: sami vam prorokujejo z lažnivo prikaznijo in vedeževanjem in ničnostjo in z zvijačo svojega srca.

¹⁵Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

¹⁵Zato pravi GOSPOD zoper tiste proroke, ki prorokujejo v mojem imenu, ko jih jaz nisem poslal, in govore: „Meča ali lakote ne bode v tej deželi“, z mečem in lakoto poginejo tisti proroki.

¹⁶And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

¹⁶Ljudstvo pa, ki mu oni prorokujejo, bo ležalo po ulicah jeruzalemskih od lakote in meča, in nikogar ne bodo imeli, da bi pokopaval nje, njih žene in njih sinove in hčere; tako razlijem nadnje njih hudobnost.

¹⁷Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

¹⁷Porečeš jim torej to besedo: Iz mojih oči kapajo solze noč in dan in ne prenehajo liti; zakaj z velikim potrtjem je potrta devica, hči mojega ljudstva, s prehudim udarcem.

¹⁸If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

¹⁸Če grem na polje, glej, tam prebodeni z meči; če pa stopim v mesto, glej, tam bolni od lakote! kajti i prorok i duhovnik hodita po deželi in nimata spoznanja.

¹⁹Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

¹⁹Ali si docela zavrtel Judo? ali se je Siona naveličala duša tvoja? Zakaj nas biješ tako, da nam ni zdravila? Ko čakamo miru, ni nič dobrega, in čas zdravljenja, glej, tolik strah!

²⁰We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

²⁰Spoznavamo, GOSPOD, brezbožnost svojo, očetov svojih krivico; kajti grešili smo zoper tebe.

²¹Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

²¹Ne zaničuj nas zaradi imena svojega, ne onečaščuj prestola slave svoje, spomni se, ne prelomi zaveze svoje z nami!Ali so med ničevimi maliki poganov kateri, da dajó dežja? ali pa nebesa morejo dati deževje? Nisi li ti tisti, o GOSPOD, Bog naš? Zato čakamo tebe, ker ti sam si naredil vse to.

²²Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

²²Ali so med ničevimi maliki poganov kateri, da dajó dežja? ali pa nebesa morejo dati deževje? Nisi li ti tisti, o GOSPOD, Bog naš? Zato čakamo tebe, ker ti sam si naredil vse to.
