¹Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

¹To pa so besede pisma, ki ga je poslal prorok Jeremija iz Jeruzalema ostalim starejšinam preseljencev in duhovnikom in prorokom in vsemu ljudstvu, ki ga je bil odpeljal Nebukadnezar iz Jeruzalema v Babilon

²(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

²(ko je odšel iz Jeruzalema, Jekonija kralj in kraljica in dvorniki, knezi iz Jude in Jeruzalema, in rokodelci in kovači),

³By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

³po Elasu, sinu Safanovem, in Gemariju, sinu Hilkijevem, ki ju je poslal Zedekija, kralj Judov, v Babilon h kralju Nebukadnezarju, in se je glasilo:

⁴Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

⁴Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov, vsem preseljencem, ki sem jih dal odpeljati iz Jeruzalema v Babilon:

⁵Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

⁵Zidajte hiše in prebivajte v njih; sadite vrtove in uživajte njih sad.

⁶Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

⁶Jemljite žene in rodite sinove in hčere, dobivajte tudi sinom svojim žene in svoje hčere možite, da rode sinove in hčere, in množite se in se ne manjšajte.

⁷And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

⁷In iščite blaginje tistemu mestu, kamor sem vas preselil, in prosite zanje GOSPODA; ker v blaginji njegovi bode vam blaginja.

⁸For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

⁸Kajti tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Naj vas ne varajo vaši proroki, ki so med vami, in vedeži vaši; in ne poslušajte svojih sanj, ki si jih sami radi sanjate.

⁹For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

⁹Zakaj krivo vam oni prorokujejo v mojem imenu; nisem jih poslal, govori GOSPOD.

¹⁰For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

¹⁰Kajti tako pravi GOSPOD: Brž ko se izpolni Babilonu sedemdeset let, vas obiščem in vam izpolnim tisto svojo besedo predobro in vas pripeljem nazaj v ta kraj.

¹¹For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

¹¹Zakaj jaz dobro vem misli, ki jih mislim za vas, govori GOSPOD, misli o miru, ne pa o nadlogi, da vam dam srečen konec in upanje.

¹²Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

¹²In klicali me boste in pojdete molit k meni, in uslišim vas.

¹³And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

¹³In ko me boste iskali, me najdete, ker boste vprašali po meni iz vsega srca svojega,

¹⁴And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

¹⁴in dal se bom najti vam, govori GOSPOD. In pripeljem nazaj ujetnike vaše in vas zberem izmed vseh narodov in iz vseh krajev, kamor sem vas pregnal, govori GOSPOD, in vas pripeljem nazaj v ta kraj, odkoder sem vas preselil v sužnost.

¹⁵Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

¹⁵Ker pravite: Obudil nam je GOSPOD proroke v Babilonu –

¹⁶Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

¹⁶zato pravi tako GOSPOD o kralju, ki sedi na prestolu Davidovem, in o vsem ljudstvu, ki prebiva v tem mestu, o vaših bratih, ki niso šli z vami v sužnost,

¹⁷Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

¹⁷tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: Glejte, jaz pošljem nadnje meč, lakoto in kugo in jih naredim, da bodo kakor smokve ostudne, ki jih ni moči jesti, tako so slabe.

¹⁸And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

¹⁸In preganjal jih bom z mečem, lakoto in kugo, in dam jih v pestenje vsem kraljestvom na zemlji, v preklinjanje in strmenje ter v zasmehovanje in zasramovanje pri vseh narodih, kamor jih preženem:

¹⁹Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

¹⁹zato ker niso poslušali besed mojih, govori GOSPOD, s katerimi sem k njim pošiljal hlapce svoje, proroke, od ranega jutra in neprenehoma; tudi vi niste poslušali, govori GOSPOD.

²⁰Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

²⁰Vi torej čujte besedo GOSPODOVO, vsi preseljenci, ki sem jih poslal iz Jeruzalema v Babilon.

²¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

²¹Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov, o Ahabu, sinu Kolajevem, in o Zedekiju, sinu Maasejevem, ki vam laž prorokujeta v mojem imenu: Glej, jaz ju dam v roko Nebukadnezarju, kralju babilonskemu, da ju umori pred vašimi očmi.

²²And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

²²In od njiju se vzame kletev pri vseh preseljencih Judovih, ki so v Babilonu, da bodo govorili: Stóri s teboj GOSPOD kakor z Zedekijem in Ahabom, ki ju je kralj babilonski pekel na ognju!

²³Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

²³zato ker sta storila nesramnost v Izraelu, prešeštvujoč s prijateljev svojih ženami in govoreč lažnive besede v mojem imenu, česar jima nisem ukazal. Jaz pa vem za to in sem priča, govori GOSPOD.

²⁴Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

²⁴Semaju Nehelamljanu pa govóri in veli:

²⁵Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

²⁵Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov, rekoč: Zato ker si poslal v imenu svojem pismo vsemu ljudstvu, ki je v Jeruzalemu, in Zefaniju, sinu Maasejevemu, duhovniku, in vsem duhovnikom in si rekel:

²⁶The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

²⁶GOSPOD te je postavil za duhovnika namesto Jojada duhovnika, da bodo nadzorniki v hiši GOSPODOVI zoper vsakega blaznega moža, ki se dela proroka, da ga deneš v klado in v ječo.

²⁷Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

²⁷Zdaj torej, zakaj nisi pokaral Jeremija Anatotčana, ki vam prorokuje?

²⁸For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

²⁸ker je vsled tega poslal k nam v Babilon s sporočilom: Dolga bo še sužnost; zidajte hiše in prebivajte v njih, in sadite vrtove in uživajte njih sad...

²⁹And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

²⁹Bral je pa Zefanija, duhovnik, to pismo, da je slišal prorok Jeremija.

³⁰Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

³⁰In prišla je beseda GOSPODOVA Jeremiju, veleč:

³¹Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

³¹Pošlji k vsem preseljencem in sporoči: Tako pravi GOSPOD o Semaju Nehelamljanu: Ker vam prorokuje Semaja, dasi ga jaz nisem poslal, in stavi vaše upanje na lažnivost,zato pravi GOSPOD tako: Glej, jaz bom kaznoval Semaja Nehelamljana in seme njegovo: ne bo imel nikogar, ki bi prebival sredi tega ljudstva, in ne bo videl dobrote, ki jo storim svojemu ljudstvu, govori GOSPOD, ker je odpad svetoval zoper GOSPODA.

³²Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

³²zato pravi GOSPOD tako: Glej, jaz bom kaznoval Semaja Nehelamljana in seme njegovo: ne bo imel nikogar, ki bi prebival sredi tega ljudstva, in ne bo videl dobrote, ki jo storim svojemu ljudstvu, govori GOSPOD, ker je odpad svetoval zoper GOSPODA.
