¹The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

¹Beseda, ki jo je govoril GOSPOD zoper Babilon in zoper deželo Kaldejsko po Jeremiju proroku.

²Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

²Oznanjajte med narodi in poročajte! Dvignite prapor, razglasite, ne prikrivajte! Recite: Babilon je vzet, Bel osramočen, Merodak [Bel-Merodak je bil bog varuh v Babilonu.] potrt; v sramoti so njih podobe, potrti so njih grdi maliki.

³For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.

³Kajti zoper njega pride narod od severa: ta opustoši zemljo njegovo, da ne bode prebivalca v njej; zbeže, odidejo ljudje in živina.

⁴In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.

⁴V tistih dneh in v tistem času, govori GOSPOD, pridejo sinovi Izraelovi, oni s sinovi Judovimi vred; spotoma bodo venomer jokali in iskali GOSPODA, Boga svojega.

⁵They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

⁵Za Sion bodo povpraševali, tja gledajoč z obličjem in govoreč: Pridite in pridružite se GOSPODU z večno zavezo, ki se ne pozabi! –

⁶My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

⁶Čreda izgubljenih ovac je bilo ljudstva moje; njih pastirji so jih zavajali na gore, kjer se je gojila verolomnost: hodili so z gore na hrib, pozabili so počivališče svoje.

⁷All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.

⁷Katerikoli so jih zalotili, so jih žrli, in njih zatiralci so govorili: Ne bomo krivi, zato ker so grešili zoper GOSPODA, prebivališče pravičnosti, zoper GOSPODA, ki je bil upanje njih očetom.

⁸Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

⁸Bežite izsredi Babilona in odidite iz dežele Kaldejske in bodite kakor kozli pred čredo!

⁹For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

⁹Zakaj, glej, jaz obudim in pripeljem zoper Babilon zbor velikih narodov iz severne dežele, in postavijo se v bojni red zoper njega; odtod bo vzet. Njih pšice bodo kakor izurjenega junaka, ki se ne vrne z boja prazen.

¹⁰And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.

¹⁰In Kaldejska bode v plen; vsi, ki jo plenijo, se nasitijo, govori GOSPOD.

¹¹Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

¹¹Čeprav se veselite, čeprav se radujete, o plenilci posesti moje, čeprav poskakujete kakor junica, ki vrši žito, čeprav rezgetate kakor krepki konji:

¹²Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

¹²vendar se bo sramovala mati vaša silno, v sramoto pride porodnica vaša: glejte, zadnja bode med narodi, puščava, suha zemlja in samota.

¹³Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

¹³Od srda GOSPODOVEGA se ne bo prebivalo v njej, ampak docela bo zapuščena. Kdorkoli pojde mimo Babilona, bo strmel in žvižgal zavoljo vseh kazni njegovih.

¹⁴Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.

¹⁴Razpostavite se zoper Babilon kroginkrog vsi, ki napenjate lok! Prožite vanj strelice, ne hranite pšic! zakaj zoper GOSPODA je on grešil.

¹⁵Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.

¹⁵Ukajte zoper njega kroginkrog! Že podaja roko svojo: padle so utrdbe njegove, podrti so zidovi njegovi; ker to je maščevanje GOSPODOVO. Maščujte se nad njim, kakor je storil, mu storite!

¹⁶Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

¹⁶Pokončajte sejalca iz Babilona in njega, ki suče srp ob žetvi! Od strahu pred zatirajočim mečem se povrnejo vsak k svojemu ljudstvu in zbeže vsak v svojo deželo.

¹⁷Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

¹⁷Ovca razkropljena je Izrael, levi so jo pregnali. Prvi jo je žrl kralj asirski in sedaj, zadnjič, ta Nebukadnezar, kralj babilonski, ji je zdrobil kosti.

¹⁸Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

¹⁸Zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz bom kaznoval kralja babilonskega in deželo njegovo, kakor sem kaznoval kralja asirskega.

¹⁹And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

¹⁹In storim, da se vrne Izrael na pašnik svoj in se bo pasel po Karmelu in Basanu, in duša njegova se bo sitila na gorovju Efraimskem in v Gileadu.

²⁰In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

²⁰V tistih dneh in v tistem času, govori GOSPOD, se bo iskala krivica Izraelova, pa ne bode nobene, in grehi Judovi, a ne najde se jih nič, ker jim odpustim, katerim dam, da preostanejo.

²¹Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

²¹Pojdi gori zoper deželo „Dvojni upor“, prav proti njej in zoper prebivalce v „Obiskovanju“! Pustoši in docela pokončuj zadaj za njimi, govori GOSPOD, in delaj prav po vsem, kar sem ti ukazal.

²²A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

²²Vojske hrup je v deželi in velik poboj!

²³How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

²³Kako je razsekano in zdrobljeno kladivo vse zemlje! Kako je Babilon v strmenje med narodi!

²⁴I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.

²⁴Zanko sem ti nastavil, in ujel si se tudi, o Babilon, ne da bi bil zaznal; zalotili so te in zgrabili, ker si se vojskoval zoper GOSPODA.

²⁵The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

²⁵Odprl je GOSPOD orožnico svojo in vzel je iz nje orožje nevolje svoje; zakaj Gospod, Jehova nad vojskami, ima delo pokončevalno v deželi Kaldejski.

²⁶Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.

²⁶Zberite se nadnjo od vseh strani, odprite žitnice njene; nakopičite je kakor kupe snopja in jo docela pokončajte; naj nima nobenega ostanka!

²⁷Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

²⁷Pomorite vse junce njene, naj gredo doli v klanje! Gorje jim! ker je prišel njih dan, čas njih obiskovanja!

²⁸The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

²⁸Čuj! glas bežečih in uhajajočih iz dežele Babilonske, da naznanijo na Sionu maščevanje GOSPODA, Boga našega, svetišča njegovega maščevanje.

²⁹Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁹Skličite strelce proti Babilonu, vse, ki napenjajo lok! utaborite se ob njem kroginkrog, nihče naj ne ubeži! Povrnite mu po delu njegovem, prav kakor je storil, mu storite; zakaj zoper GOSPODA se je ponašal, zoper Svetega Izraelovega.

³⁰Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD.

³⁰Zatorej bodo popadali mladeniči njegovi po ulicah njegovih in vsi vojščaki njegovi poginejo tisti dan, govori GOSPOD.

³¹Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

³¹Glej, jaz sem zoper tebe, o prevzetnež, govori Gospod, Jehova nad vojskami; zakaj tvoj dan je prišel, čas, ko te bom obiskoval.

³²And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

³²Tedaj se spotakne prevzetnež in se zgrudi, da ga nihče ne zravna; in ogenj zažgem v mestih njegovih, ki pokonča vso okolico njegovo.

³³Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

³³Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: Silo trpé sinovi Izraelovi in sinovi Judovi skupaj, in katerikoli so jih ujeli, jih trdo drže, branijo se jih izpustiti.

³⁴Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁴Njih odrešenik je močan, GOSPOD nad vojskami je ime njegovo: gotovo se potegne za njih pravdo, da upokoji deželo in vznemiri prebivalce v Babilonu.

³⁵A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

³⁵Meč nad Kaldejce, veli GOSPOD, in nad prebivalce v Babilonu in nad kneze njegove in modrijane njegove!

³⁶A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

³⁶meč nad blebetače njegove, da poneumijo, meč nad oblastnike njegove, da obupajo!

³⁷A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

³⁷meč nad konje in vozove njegove in nad vse mešano ljudstvo, ki je sredi njega, da naj bodo kakor ženske! meč nad zaklade njegove, da se plenijo!

³⁸A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

³⁸suša nad vode njegove, da se posušé! ker to je dežela izrezanih podob in pri pošastnih malikih ravnajo brezumno.

³⁹Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.

³⁹Zato bodo tam prebivale zveri puščave z divjimi psi in noji bodo v njem gnezdili; in nikdar več se ne bo prebivalo v njem in naselitve ne bo v njem od roda do roda.

⁴⁰As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

⁴⁰Enako se podere, kakor je Bog podrl Sodomo in Gomoro in sosednja mesta njuna, govori GOSPOD: nihče ne bo ondi stanoval in bival ne bo v njem sin človekov.

⁴¹Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

⁴¹Glej, ljudstvo pride od severa in narod velik in mnogi kralji vstanejo od skrajnega konca zemlje.

⁴²They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

⁴²Lok in sulico bodo držali, krvoločni bodo in brez usmiljenja; njih glas bo bučal kakor morje in na konjih bodo jahali: vsak je oborožen zoper tebe, o hči babilonska, kakor mož na vojsko.

⁴³The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

⁴³Slišal bo kralj babilonski glas o njih, in omahnejo mu roke; groza ga obide, bolečina kakor porodnico.

⁴⁴Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

⁴⁴Glej, kakor lev gre gori od veličja Jordanovega zoper trdno prebivališče; zdajci ga zapodim v beg od tod, in njega, ki je izvoljen, postavim nad to deželo. Kajti kdo je meni enak? in kdo bi me pozval na sodbo? in kdo je tisti pastir, ki bi mogel stati pred menoj?

⁴⁵Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

⁴⁵Zatorej čujte GOSPODOV sklep, ki ga je sklenil zoper Babilon, in misli njegove zoper deželo Kaldejcev: Gotovo jih odvlečejo, najmanjše iz črede, gotovo se opustoši njih prebivališče ž njimi vred.Od glasu: Babilon je vzet! se potrese zemlja, in vpitje se bo čulo med narodi.

⁴⁶At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
