¹And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.

¹A efraimski možje so se zbrali in prešli na sever [Ali: v Zafon.], in reko Jeftu: Zakaj si se šel bojevat zoper Amonove sinove in nas nisi poklical, da idemo s teboj? Sežgemo hišo tvojo nad teboj z ognjem!

²And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.

²Jefta jim reče: Jaz in ljudstvo moje smo bili v hudem sporu z Amonovimi sinovi, in ko sem vas klical, mi niste pomogli iz njih roke.

³And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

³In videč, da mi niste v pomoč, sem izpostavil nevarnosti življenje svoje in šel proti Amonovim sinovom, in GOSPOD mi jih je dal v roko. Zakaj pa danes hodite gori k meni, da se bojujete z menoj?

⁴Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.

⁴In Jefta zbere vse može iz Gileada in se vojskuje zoper Efraima. In gileadski možje udarijo Efraimce, ker so govorili: Begunci ste Efraimovi, vi Gileadovci, sredi Efraima in sredi Manaseja.

⁵And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;

⁵In Gileadovci zasedejo jordanske brodove proti Efraimskim; in ko je bežečih Efraimskih kdo rekel: Daj, da grem na ono stran, mu vele možje iz Gileada: Si li Efraimec? in ako je rekel: Nisem,

⁶Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

⁶mu velé: Reci: Šibolet! on pa je rekel: Sibolet, ker ni pazil na pravo izreko. Tedaj ga zgrabijo in umorijo ob jordanskih brodovih. In padlo jih je tisti čas iz Efraima dvainštirideset tisoč.

⁷And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

⁷Jefta pa je sodil Izraela šest let. Potem je umrl Jefta Gileadec in je bil pokopan v enem izmed, gileadskih mest.

⁸And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

⁸Po njem je sodil Izraela Ibzan iz Betlehema.

⁹And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

⁹Ta je imel trideset sinov, in je vdal iz hiše svoje trideset hčera in trideset jih je vzel sinovom svojim oddrugod; in sodil je Izraela sedem let.

¹⁰Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.

¹⁰In Ibzan je umrl in je bil pokopan v Betlehemu.

¹¹And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

¹¹In po njem je sodil Izraela Elon Zebulonovec; in sodil je Izraelu deset let.

¹²And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.

¹²In Elon Zebulonovec je umrl in je bil pokopan v Ajalonu, v Zebulonovi deželi.

¹³And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.

¹³In po njem je sodil Izraelu Abdon, sin Hilelov, Piratončan.

¹⁴And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

¹⁴Ta je imel štirideset sinov in trideset vnukov, ki so jezdili na sedemdesetih osličih; in sodil je Izraelu osem let.In Abdon, sin Hilelov, Piratončan, je umrl in je bil pokopan v Piratonu v Efraimovi deželi, na gorovju Amalekovcev.

¹⁵And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
