¹And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

¹Angel GOSPODOV pa pride od Gilgala gori do Bohima in reče: Jaz sem storil, da ste šli iz Egipta, in sem vas pripeljal v deželo, ki sem jo s prisego obljubil očetom vašim; in rekel sem: Vekomaj ne prelomim zaveze svoje z vami;

²And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

²vi pa ne sklenite nobene zaveze s prebivalci te dežele, njih oltarje pa razrušite. Ali niste poslušali glasu mojega. Zakaj ste tako ravnali?

³Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

³Zategadelj sem tudi rekel: Ne preženem jih izpred vas, temuč naj vam bodo kakor trnje v bokih, in njih bogovi naj vam bodo v zanko.

⁴And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

⁴In ko je angel GOSPODOV izgovoril te besede vsem sinovom Izraelovim, je ljudstvo zavpilo na ves glas in jokalo.

⁵And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

⁵In imenovali so ime tistega kraja Bohim [T. j. Plakalci.]; in ondi, so darovali GOSPODU.

⁶And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

⁶Ko je bil namreč Jozue razpustil ljudstvo, je šel vsak Izraelovih sinov v dediščino svojo, da posedejo deželo.

⁷And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

⁷In ljudstvo je služilo GOSPODU, dokler je živel Jozue in starejšine, ki so še po Jozuetu živeli, ki so bili videli vse veliko delo GOSPODOVO, ki ga je storil za Izraela.

⁸And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

⁹And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

⁹so ga pokopali v kraju dediščine njegove v Timnat-heresu, v gorovju Efraimskem, severno ob gori Gaasu.

¹⁰And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

¹⁰In ko je tudi ves ta rod bil zbran k očetom svojim, je po njem nastopil drug rod, ki ni poznal GOSPODA, ne del njegovih, ki jih je bil storil za Izraela.

¹¹And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

¹¹In sinovi Izraelovi so počenjali, kar je bilo hudo v očeh GOSPODOVIH, in služili so Baalom,

¹²And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

¹³And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

¹³In zapustili so GOSPODA in služili Baalu in Astarotam [Baal je bil Kanaancem moško, Astoret (ali Astarta, Ašera) žensko božanstvo; njene podobe so imenovali Astarote.].

¹⁴And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

¹⁴Tedaj se vname jeza GOSPODOVA zoper Izraela, in dal jih je v roke roparjem, ki so jih oplenjevali, in jih prodal v njih sovražnikov roke vseokoli, da se niso mogli več vzdržati pred sovražniki svojimi.

¹⁵Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

¹⁶Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

¹⁶A GOSPOD jim je obujal sodnike, ki so jih otimali iz rok tistih roparjev.

¹⁷And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

¹⁷Ali tudi sodnikov svojih niso poslušali, temuč nečistovali so za drugimi bogovi in jih molili, hitro odstopivši s pota, po katerem so hodili njih očetje, poslušajoč zapovedi GOSPODOVE. Oni niso tako delali.

¹⁸And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

¹⁸In ko jim je GOSPOD obujal sodnike, je bil GOSPOD s sodniki ter jih reševal iz rok njih sovražnikov, dokler je živel sodnik; zakaj GOSPODU se je smililo zaradi njih jokanja spričo tistih, ki so jih stiskali in mučili.

¹⁹And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

¹⁹Ko pa je umrl sodnik, so se spet vrnili ter so huje ravnali nego njih očetje, hodeč za drugimi bogovi, da bi jim služili in jih molili; nič niso popustili od dejanj svojih in svojega trdovratnega vedenja.

²⁰And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

²⁰Zato se je vnel srd GOSPODOV zoper Izraela, in je rekel: Ker je to ljudstvo prestopilo zavezo mojo, ki sem jo bil zapovedal njih očetom, in ne posluša glasu mojega:

²¹I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

²¹zato tudi jaz ne preženem nikogar več iz tistih narodov, ki so preostali ob Jozuetovi smrti,

²²That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

²²da po njih izkusim Izraela, če se bodo držali pota GOSPODOVEGA, hodeč po njem, kakor so se ga držali njih očetje, ali če ne.Zato je vzdržal GOSPOD tiste narode in jih ni pregnal v kratkem, tudi jih ni dal v roko Jozuetu.

²³Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
