¹Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

¹Čujte vendar, kar pravi GOSPOD: Vstani, pravdaj se vpričo gorá in hribi naj slišijo tvoj glas!

²Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

²Poslušajte, o gore, pravdo GOSPODOVO, in vi nepremični temelji zemlje! Zakaj pravdo ima GOSPOD z ljudstvom svojim in z Izraelom mora obračunati.

³O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

³Ljudstvo moje, kaj sem ti storil in s čim sem ti bil nadležen? Izpričaj zoper mene!

⁴For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

⁴Kajti pripeljal sem te gori iz dežele Egiptovske in te odrešil iz hiše sužnjev, in poslal sem pred teboj Mojzesa, Arona in Mirjamo.

⁵O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.

⁵Ljudstvo moje, spomni se vendar, kaj je imel v mislih Balak, kralj moabski, in kaj mu je odgovoril Balam, sin Beorjev; kaj se je godilo od Sitima do Gilgala, da spoznaš pravična dela GOSPODOVA! –

⁶Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

⁶S čim naj stopim pred GOSPODA, se priklonim Bogu višave? Naj li stopim predenj z žgalnimi žrtvami, z enoletnimi teleti?

⁷Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

⁷Ali se bo GOSPOD veselil tisoč ovnov, desettisoč potokov olja? Ali naj dam prvenca svojega za prestopek svoj, svojega telesa sad za greh duše svoje?

⁸He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

⁸Naznanil ti je, o človek, kaj je dobro; in kaj zahteva GOSPOD od tebe, nego da strežeš pravici in ljubiš usmiljenje in da hodiš ponižno z Bogom svojim?

⁹The LORD's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

⁹Glas GOSPODOV kliče mestu – in mož zdrave pameti se bo bal tvojega imena. Poslušajte šibo in njega, ki jo je pripravil!

¹⁰Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

¹⁰So li še zakladi krivičnosti v hiši brezbožnikovi in premajhna mera, ki je prokleta?

¹¹Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

¹¹„Bodem li mar čist ob krivični tehtnici in če imam lažnive uteži v mošnji?“

¹²For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

¹²Njih bogatini so polni silovitosti in njih prebivalci govore laž in imajo prevarljive jezike v ustih!

¹³Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

¹³Zato te tudi jaz udarim neozdravljivo, te opustošim zavoljo grehov tvojih.

¹⁴Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.

¹⁴Jedel boš, pa se ne nasitiš, in prazno ti ostane v notranjščini; v stran boš spravljal, a ne otmeš ničesar; in kar otmeš, izročim meču.

¹⁵Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

¹⁵Sejal boš, pa ne boš žel; olivke boš tlačil, a z oljem se ne boš mazilil, tudi mošt, pa vina ne boš pil.Kajti drže se postav Omrijevih in ravnajo prav kakor hiša Ahabova in žive po njih svetu: zato da te izdam ljudem v strmenje in prebivalce mesta v žvižganje; in nosili boste ljudstva mojega sramoto.

¹⁶For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

¹⁶Kajti drže se postav Omrijevih in ravnajo prav kakor hiša Ahabova in žive po njih svetu: zato da te izdam ljudem v strmenje in prebivalce mesta v žvižganje; in nosili boste ljudstva mojega sramoto.
