¹Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

¹In vsa množica sinov Izraelovih je prišla v puščavo Zinsko v prvem mesecu, in ljudstvo je ostalo v Kadesu. Tu je umrla Mirjama in tu je bila pokopana.

²And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

²In ni bilo vode za občino; zbrali so se torej zoper Mojzesa in Arona.

³And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

³In prepiralo se je ljudstvo z Mojzesom, govoreč: O da bi bili poginili, ko so poginili bratje naši pred GOSPODOM!

⁴And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

⁴Zakaj sta privedla zbor GOSPODOV v to puščavo, da tu umrjemo, mi in živina naša?

⁵And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

⁵In zakaj sta nas peljala gori iz Egipta, da nas spravita v ta slabi kraj, ki se ne da obsejati, ki ne rodi ne smokev, ne trte, ne margaranovih jabolk, še grla si tu ne moremo omočiti z vodo!

⁶And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

⁶Tedaj se umakneta Mojzes in Aron izpred zbora k vratom shodnega šatora in padeta na obličje svoje; in prikaže se jima slava GOSPODOVA.

⁷And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

⁷In GOSPOD ogovori Mojzesa, veleč:

⁸Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

⁸Vzemi palico in skliči občino, ti in Aron, brat tvoj, in govorita skali pred njih očmi, da naj dá vode svoje. Tako jim izpelji vodo iz skale in napoji občino in njih živino.

⁹And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

⁹Vzame torej Mojzes palico izpred GOSPODA, kakor mu je bil zapovedal.

¹⁰And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

¹⁰In Mojzes in Aron skličeta zbor pred skalo, in jim reče: Čujte vendar, uporneži! Bova li vam izpeljala vodo iz te skale?

¹¹And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

¹¹In vzdigne Mojzes roko in udari ob skalo dvakrat s palico svojo, in vode privre obilo, in občina je pila in njih živina.

¹²And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

¹²A GOSPOD reče Mojzesu in Aronu: Ker nista verovala vame, da bi me svetega izkazala vpričo sinov Izraelovih, zato ne dovodita te občine v deželo, ki sem jo jim dal.

¹³This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

¹³To je voda Meriba [T. j. prepir.], ker so se tam prepirali sinovi Izraelovi z GOSPODOM, in on se je izkazal svetega pred njimi.

¹⁴And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:

¹⁴In Mojzes pošlje selstvo iz Kadesa do kralja edomskega: Tako pravi brat tvoj Izrael: Ti poznaš vse težave, ki so nas zadele:

¹⁵How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:

¹⁵kako so šli očetje naši doli v Egipt, in prebivali smo v Egiptu dolgo časa, a Egipčani so hudo ravnali z nami in z očeti našimi.

¹⁶And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:

¹⁶In ko smo vpili h GOSPODU, je uslišal naš glas ter poslal angela in nas peljal iz Egipta. In glej smo v mestu Kadesu ob skrajni meji tvoji.

¹⁷Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

¹⁷Dovoli nam, prosimo, iti skozi deželo tvojo: ne pojdemo čez njive ali skozi vinograde, tudi ne bomo pili vodo iz vodnjakov; po kraljevi cesti pojdemo in ne krenemo ne na desno, ne na levo, dokler ne prestopimo mej tvojih.

¹⁸And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.

¹⁸Edom pa mu odgovori: Ne hodi čez moje, sicer ti pridem naproti z mečem.

¹⁹And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.

¹⁹In sinovi Izraelovi mu reko: Radi bi šli po uglajenem potu, in ako bomo pili vode tvoje, mi in naša živina, hočemo plačati; ničesar več – samo da pojdemo peš skozi pokrajino.

²⁰And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

²⁰On pa reče: Ne pojdeš skozi njo. In mu pride Edom nasproti z mnogim ljudstvom in z močno roko.

²¹Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

²¹Tako se je branil Edom dovoliti Izraelu prehod skozi pokrajino svojo; zato se mu je izognil Izrael.

²²And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.

²²Odrinejo torej iz Kadesa, in vsa množica sinov Izraelovih pride h gori Horu.

²³And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,

²³In GOSPOD ogovori Mojzesa in Arona na gori Horu ob meji pokrajine Edomske, rekoč:

²⁴Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.

²⁴Aron se mora pridružiti ljudstvu svojemu, zakaj ne pride v deželo, ki sem jo dal sinovom Izraelovim, ker sta se upirala povelju mojemu pri vodi Meribi.

²⁵Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:

²⁵Vzemi Arona in sinu njegovega Eleazarja ter ju pelji vrh gore Hora,

²⁶And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.

²⁶in sleci Aronu oblačila njegova in obleci vanje Eleazarja, sina njegovega. In Aron bo zbran k ljudstvu svojemu in tam umrje.

²⁷And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

²⁷Tedaj stori Mojzes, kakor mu je bil zapovedal GOSPOD, in šli so na goro Hor pred očmi vse občine.

²⁸And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

²⁸In Mojzes sleče Aronu oblačila njegova in obleče vanje Eleazarja, sina njegovega. Tam je umrl Aron na vrhu gore. Mojzes pa in Eleazar stopita doli z gore.In ko je videla vsa občina, da je Aron mrtev, je jokala po njem trideset dni vsa hiša Izraelova.

²⁹And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
