1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
1อย่าพูดสบประมาทคนมีอาวุโส แต่จงตักเตือนเขาเสมือนเป็นบิดา และคนหนุ่มๆทั้งหลายเป็นเสมือนพี่หรือน้อง
2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
2และผู้หญิงผู้มีอาวุโสเป็นเสมือนมารดา และส่วนหญิงสาวๆก็ให้เป็นเสมือนพี่สาวน้องสาว ด้วยความบริสุทธิ์ทั้งหมด
3Honour widows that are widows indeed.
3จงให้เกียรติแก่แม่ม่ายไร้ที่พึ่ง
4But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
4ถ้าแม่ม่ายคนใดมีลูกหลานก็ให้ลูกหลานนั้นเรียนเพื่อให้รู้จักที่จะปฏิบัติกับครอบครัวของตนก่อน และให้ตอบแทนคุณบิดามารดาของตน เพราะว่าการกระทำเช่นนี้เป็นการดีและเป็นที่ชอบต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้า
5Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
5ฝ่ายผู้หญิงที่เป็นแม่ม่ายอย่างแท้จริง และอยู่ตามลำพังแต่ผู้เดียวนั้น จงวางใจในพระเจ้า และดำรงอยู่ในการวิงวอนและการอธิษฐานทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน
6But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
6ส่วนผู้หญิงที่ปล่อยตัวในการสนุกสนานนั้น ก็ตายแล้วทั้งเป็นๆอยู่
7And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
7จงกำชับข้อความเหล่านี้ เพื่อเขาจะไม่ถูกตำหนิ
8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
8ถ้าแม้ผู้ใดไม่เลี้ยงดูวงศ์ญาติของตน และโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งคนในบ้านเรือนของตน ผู้นั้นก็ได้ปฏิเสธความเชื่อเสียแล้ว และชั่วยิ่งกว่าคนที่ไม่ได้เชื่อเสียอีก
9Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
9อย่าให้แม่ม่ายคนใดที่อายุต่ำกว่าหกสิบปี ลงชื่อในทะเบียนแม่ม่าย จะต้องเป็นภรรยาของชายคนเดียว
10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
10และจะต้องเป็นผู้ที่ได้ชื่อว่าได้กระทำดี เช่นได้เอาใจใส่เลี้ยงดูลูก ได้มีน้ำใจรับรองแขก ได้ล้างเท้าวิสุทธิชน ได้สงเคราะห์คนที่มีความทุกข์ยาก และได้บำเพ็ญคุณความดีทุกอย่าง
11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
11แต่แม่ม่ายสาวๆนั้นอย่ารับขึ้นทะเบียน เพราะว่าเมื่อเขาหลงละเลิงห่างจากพระคริสต์ไปแล้ว ก็ใคร่จะสมรสอีก
12Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
12เขาจะต้องถูกตำหนิ เพราะเขาได้ทิ้งความเชื่อเดิมของเขา
13And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
13นอกจากนั้นเขาก็จะกลายเป็นคนเกียจคร้าน เที่ยวไปบ้านนี้บ้านนั้น และมิใช่แต่เกียจคร้านเท่านั้น แต่ปากบอนด้วย และเที่ยวยุ่งกับเรื่องของผู้อื่น พูดสิ่งซึ่งไม่ควรจะพูด
14I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
14เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาให้พวกแม่ม่ายสาวๆนั้นมีสามี มีบุตร และดูแลบ้านเรือน เพื่อมิให้ศัตรูมีช่องทางนินทาได้
15For some are already turned aside after Satan.
15ด้วยว่ามีบางคนได้หลงตามซาตานไปแล้ว
16If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
16ถ้าชายหรือหญิงผู้มีความเชื่อคนใดมีแม่ม่าย ก็ให้เขาช่วยเลี้ยงดู อย่าให้เป็นภาระของคริสตจักรเลย เพื่อคริสตจักรจะได้สงเคราะห์คนที่เป็นแม่ม่ายไร้ที่พึ่งจริงๆ
17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
17จงถือว่าผู้ปกครองที่ปกครองดีนั้นสมควรได้รับเกียรติสองเท่า โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผู้ปกครองที่ทำงานหนักในการเทศนาและสั่งสอน
18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
18เพราะพระคัมภีร์กล่าวว่า `อย่าเอาตะกร้าครอบปากวัว เมื่อมันกำลังนวดข้าวอยู่' และ `ผู้ทำงานสมควรจะได้รับค่าจ้างของตน'
19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
19อย่ายอมรับคำกล่าวหาผู้ปกครองคนใด เว้นเสียแต่จะมีพยานสองสามคน
20Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
20สำหรับผู้ปกครองที่ยังคงกระทำบาป จงว่ากล่าวเขาต่อหน้าคนทั้งปวง เพื่อผู้อื่นจะได้เกรงกลัวด้วย
21I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
21ข้าพเจ้ากำชับท่านต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าและต่อพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า และต่อเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ที่ทรงเลือกสรรไว้แล้วนั้น ให้ท่านรักษาข้อความเหล่านี้ไว้โดยไม่เห็นแก่หน้าผู้ใด และไม่กระทำการใดๆด้วยใจลำเอียง
22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.
22อย่าด่วนวางมือเจิมผู้ใด และอย่ามีส่วนร่วมในการกระทำบาปของผู้อื่นเลย จงรักษาตัวให้บริสุทธิ์
23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
23อย่าดื่มแต่น้ำอีกต่อไป แต่จงใช้น้ำองุ่นบ้างเล็กน้อย เพื่อประโยชน์แก่กระเพาะอาหารของท่านและโรคที่บังเกิดแก่ท่านเนืองๆ
24Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
24การผิดของบางคนย่อมปรากฏเด่นขึ้นก่อน แล้วก็นำเขาไปถึงที่พิพากษา แต่การผิดของบางคนนั้นจะตามหลังเขาไป
25Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
25ฝ่ายการดีของบางคนก็ปรากฏเด่นขึ้นก่อนด้วยเหมือนกัน และการนอกนั้นจะปิดบังไว้ก็ไม่ได้
